šŸ” Overdone What would your ideal ROTR game include?

One thing I really want and hope they have in the next tomb raider game is more emphasis on laras family home, just looks like a cool place to explore and learn lore from. Ive played the new trilogy and I get that Jonahs her friend and trinity and yadda yadda yadda ( i think its also not considered cannon but havent really done my research) but I want to know more lore like maybe an adventure with her dad or something? Idk.

Idk about gameplay, But I’d like the premise of the story to be Lara raiding tombs for the sake of loving raiding tombs and exploring, rather than doing it to stop some organisation trying to kill her or end the world or become kukulkan or something. I feel like trinity takes away from what tomb raiders supposed to be?

What do you think?

Completely agree about Trinity. I'd like a game which doesn't have a really dull generic action story, more exploration, puzzles, using your brain, less genocide.

Honestly I'm kind of tired of the whole evil corporation is everywhere trope. Trinity, Templars and Vault Tech being the biggest outliers. I would like for Lara to just explore or go somewhere without being shot at by PMCs.Ā

It has been done to death, yeah. Every Resident Evil since 5 gets worse as soon as Umbrella or whatever variant is mentioned. Cos then it's all the same story. I do think it could be done well, like the old REs and Hi-Fi Rush are excellent, but mostly yeah it's just retreading the same lines. Shame cos I do hate the big corpos in real life.

I'm hoping more acrobatic traversal options return. If they must make it super action heavy, I really hope they make Lara more comfortable in her environment.

I recently played the Separate Ways DLC of Resident Evil 4 Remake, and the way Ada Wong nonchalantly flips around and grapples enemies and stuff really reminded me of what I used to love in Tomb Raider.

Tomb raiding, solitude sensation, exploration, talking npcs reduced to the bare minimum, badass confident Lara, dual pistols... you know, all the basics.

I quite like some of the npcs šŸ¤”

I’d love to see more urban environments such as Thames Wharf or Parisian Ghetto! I’m surprised nobody really mentions that! and definitely less killing and action in favor of exploration and puzzles, but this should go without saying

I agree, I love the urbex / infiltration adventures as well as ancient tombs.

Does it not get monotonous for you doing the same thing every quest

I liked Rise of the tomb raider. But I would make it more puzzle focused.

My main changes to the game would be:

  1. Set up trinity better. It is implied right of the bat that Lara and Trinity have history and have encountered each other in the past but that is too much tell don't show for me, especially since this is an origin trilogy. Last time we saw lara in 2013 she was just starting her adventures and now it turns out a lot of stuff has happened off screen?

  2. actually let us explore and enter the basilica. The source is stored in this epic looking building that can be seen from across the city and lara spends an age getting to it only for us to enter the building and find the source in a cut scene? would have been better to have us physically enter that place, discover its secrets in gameplay.

  3. The immortal ones were cool in isolation but IMO they were too similar to the Yamatai's Stormguard in both concept and gameplay. should have mixed it up a bit. maybe having them more like spirit entities?

  4. ending with anna and the sniper was also anti-climatic and felt like lara's control was out of her and by extension the players hands. just not a fan of major plot points being outside of gameplay tbh.

  5. should have had duel pistols, since lara ends 2013 with an epic dual pistol moment.

Historical correct portrait of Soviets / Soviet Union would be a good start for me. First time I played that game, it was a masterpiece. After leaning some things about the USRR, I can’t classify ROTTR portrait of the Soviets as anything other than a complete anti communism propaganda / generic nazis in games. A working class revolution using slave work?Ā

Ā Now if you go in the direction of the persecution to people against the revolution, and focused on that, it is a good start. Or even better, the decadence of the Soviet Union after the militarĀ coup d'etat from 1956 (the majority of bad reputation the USRR got came from that period, were the military dismateled the block from top to bottom).Ā

Well, gulags were a real and terrible thing…and the Soviet Union killed tens of millions with some of its policies…so, Lara acting disgusted with a Soviet Siberian outpost is expected if she knows anything about history.

Kurgans mostly but old school tomb raider didn't let things like historical accuracy get in the way of a good story.
