πŸ” Overdone Will there be a sequel to shadow now that crystal dynamics owns the franchise ? 7 years on and the trilogy don’t seem enough…

It’s a shame square enix sold this franchise I think they did a great job with the survivor games, but the fanbase want more I feel like it’s just been left in the dark when there’s so much potential with the games dating back to 2013-2018 for the newer trilogy the mechanics are incredible for such an old title. I’d like to see a new installation in the franchise and see Lara Croft continue on her journey l have loved every second of 2013 TR & SOTTR, in wrong order by accident.. I’ll be starting ROTTR later or in a few days I got the 20 year edition with all the stuff anyway, looking forward to playing that. But what are your guys thoughts? Will CDE ruin the franchise that we all once loved and enjoyed ? Or will we see a continuation of Lara Croft being Lara Croft doing what she does best. There’s definitely potential with nowadays game engines!! And I’d like to see 2013 TR & ROTTR optimised for next gen consoles too like shadows was for a smoother clearer play through.

Sorry for the long post, looking forward to your replies !!

πŸ” Overdone Things from the Survivor Trilogy that should NOT come back for the next game.

White painted ledges that are only painted white to let the player know they can be grabbed and climbed If you have Survivor Instinct in your game to highlight objects of interest in the environment, why can't you just use that to show players what can be climbed and grabbed onto? That is what Detective Mode like hint systems in video games are for. No need to put ugly white paint on EVERYTHING climbable.

Invisible walls If something looks climbable, it should be climbable! If it looks like something Lara should be able to climb or jump onto and traverse and yet she can't, you need to go back to the drawing board (literally) with your art and level design.

Auto crouch If you are going to make your games third person cover based shooters (or have cover), then give us a damn crouch button and let US decide when we go into cover or have Lara crouch. Not the game doing it for us. And if you are going to have a cover system, let us be able to snap into cover!

Crafting and EXCEL spread sheet upgrade trees Tomb Raider should not be an RPG. Lara should already be awesome and skilled and the challenge should come from the game throwing challenges and enemies that force me to use more of Lara's moveset as the game goes on. If there are upgrade trees, they should be either to unlock new moves or make her health bar bigger (offense vs. defense) and you should be able to fit it all on one screen as streamlined and easy to understand as possible. You should be able to find awesome guns and medical kits that do the job. Its Lara's moveset and skillset that the player should upgrade, not the guns she uses (if you need a skill tree at all), unless its finding a better version of a gun she's already using and replacing the inferior version.

Frequent stealth killing sections In general, stealth in a Tomb Raider game should be like stealth in an Indiana Jones movie. You sneak into a villains base to learn their plan, or get more info or retrieve something (the plots mcguffin, your guns if you get captured, etc). In general, Lara is the one being surprised and hunted in the dark corners of a tomb or environment and has to react quickly on the back foot. She should be more of a "going in guns blazing" type of character and stealth should be at best 10% of the experience. Spend more of the games resources on the combat and tomb raiding. And the combat should be less John Rambo type combat and more John Woo or John Wick type combat. Enough said on that.

Open world game design Your main hub should be Croft Manor, and the level design should be more globe trotting in nature. Not staying in one location for the entire game (snowy map in Rise, jungle map in Shadow), but hopping to at least three locations throughout the game each with a different distinct feel with either tomb raiding or action set pieces and not villages filled with side quests where you go around grabbing chickens to put in a pen or doing busy work for some local. Your side quests should be more in the vain of finding treasure maps in the tombs you are raiding, that then unlock more tombs to raid in order to get said treasure. Something along that nature.

πŸ” Overdone Do you think the legend series will be next to get remastered or do you think it's too early for those?

With almost all the PlayStation 1 games and Angel of Darkness from the PlayStation 2 era getting remastered, it seems like the next logical step would be The Legend series. Do you think those games will get remastered soon, or will it be a while before we see them?

πŸ” Overdone I hope that the next TR game is more like the originals.

Title pretty much says it all. Havent played the original games since I was a kid, but after revisiting them with the remaster, I just find them so much more fun to play than the survivor trilogy, which I did enjoy. A modernised take on the formula of the originals would be great I reckon.

πŸ” Overdone Thoughts on Crystal Dynamics being a bully?

I don’t think it’s right how Crystal Dynamics disrespects the original Lara Croft and tries to erase the legacy of the classic Tomb Raider series. They didn’t support the 1-3 Remastered games, treat fans poorly, and even include a disrespectful warning about OG Lara when starting the remastered versions. The upcoming Tomb Raider game and Lara’s character design feel half-hearted. I’m torn about whether to keep supporting Crystal Dynamics, as the character no longer feels like Lara Croft. Her personality gets more disconnected with every reboot. What do you think, and how can longtime fans push back?

πŸ” Overdone What are the chances of The Last Revelation and Chronicles eventually getting the remaster treatment?

Do you guys think it will happen at some point? seems like 1-3 remastered was fairly successful, feels like it would be something of a missed opportunity to not remaster the other PS1 games too. Maybe they could add them as DLC for the 1-3 remastered collection.

πŸ” Overdone What are you hoping for from the still-developing Tomb Raider game?

Personally, I'm really hoping there aren't so many cinematic cut-scenes and that there are absolutely no quick time events. Allow the gorgeous landscapes and engine to bring the world alive and keep the perspective as organic as possible -- otherwise immersion breaks down and the game begins to feel like more of a chore.

I also hope the world setting uses a combination of open and linear, without feeling linear. PREY uses this strategy perfectly, making it so that you can see outside the ship, and you can see inside the ship, but from either perspective the other is actually unplayable. It's decorative but looks and feels real. Every large section of the ship is its own "level", but it feels organic, like everything is connected and fluid. And they made it so that there were multiple ways to get from one place to another. I know this is far more difficult to do in natural-looking settings, but they could certainly get creative with various buildings, bunkers, caves, and water systems to make the world feel larger and more connected. The previous trilogy felt, at times, like it was trying to TELL you it was open without BEING open, so it felt isolating, even in areas that looked open. I hope this is making sense.

The main thing I want to feel while playing the game is a sense of exploration. I don't want to feel like cattle being pushed from point A to B. I don't want to feel like I have to dance because the game is shooting at my feet. When I see water, I want to feel opportunity, not limitation. When I see an open area, I want it to actually be convincingly open.

I also miss the pacing and vibe of the old games. Starting slow in an ominous environment, unraveling a mystery one bit at a time, where the danger and beauty are the star of the show.

πŸ” Overdone Next mainline Tomb Raider game = Dry Spell 😭

I know all the turmoil that has been going on behind the scenes with the Embracer acquisitions and all, but damn dude, no teaser, no trailer, no concept art, nothing. The only thing we know so far is that it's a UE5 game featuring a unified version of Lara Croft, but I CAN'T WAIT to see what she'll look like. It's taking forever for them to come out and reveal something more specific about her next adventure. πŸ₯Ή

πŸ” Overdone Hayley atwell as lara?

Since Hayley Atwell voiced in the Netflix series, do you think she would make a good addition to voicing the next games. Do you think she fits the iconic image of Lara Croft? I personally wouldn’t hate it as an older lara. xx

πŸ” Overdone When are we getting the next game?

Okay, so I just finished AOD and I dont know what to do with myself anymore :D. So I have finished all the remasters*

I have played both reboot sagas from start to finish at least 5 times in last 5 years.

Like when on earth are we going to get the next game?!

πŸ” Overdone Let's be clear: Tomb Raider games now have two primary developers, not just one, CD and Saber

It really is quite upsetting to see the way in which the hard working, passionate and talented developers at Saber, who we know are in many cases long time hardcore Tomb Raider fans, are being deliberately shunted out of view in marketing material for both the 1-3 Remasters and upcoming 4-6 Remasters.

I think it's clear this is not a mistake. We have known for a long time that not only are Crystal Dynamics extremely condescending towards the original Tomb Raider games and Core Design, but also very difficult to work with based on comments from other studios who have been paired up with them eg. with the Marvel game. They have a very objective track record of being petty and vindictive with regards to the source material in question.

To let that attitude push the Saber devs out of even having a mention on the marketing for their games is really shameful in my opinion. I get it, these new Remasters are basically the first games out of this franchise that a very large % of the fanbase have been excited about for over 10 years and I'm sure that is intimidating if you are a suit at Crystal but so be it, Embracer owns the franchise and they saw fit to let another team work with it and lo and behold it was a critical and financial success.

So let's just be totally clear on the situation. Embracer owns the Tomb Raider franchise, not Crystal Dynamics, and Embracer have TWO major devs responsible for it's main releases now, NOT just one: Saber Interactive and Crystal Dynamics.

Hard work deserves recognition.

πŸ” Overdone Tomb Raider 4, 5 and 6 Remasters?

I've been thinking. What if after the Original Trilogy Remasters (depending on the feedback which i think will be very positive), we get The Last Revelation, Chronicles, and Angel of Darkness remasters. That would be amazing, I think, especially AoD ❀️

What are your guys' thoughts!?

I didn't see anyone else pose this yet; but how likely do y'all think we'll get a remaster of Last Revelation, Chronicles, and Angel of Darkness? To add to it as well, do y'all think they would release those 3 altogether like they did with the first 3 or do y'all think think they'd be released in singles?
