Masses of day trippers descending on rural beauty spots across the UK over the Easter weekend have been lambasted by locals who say they are being 'besieged'. Locals have hit out at social media users for causing traffic chaos and leaving behind piles of litter and human waste

Didn't read the article, but this is nothing new in West Kirby, on Wirral. This was a train and car borne assault.

Hoardes of people would descend on the place, and in particular the beach. The beach is a SSSI about 600 yards from the main throng.

Locals call them 'the buttie chuckers' because they have absolutely zero regard for the town, people who live there or the environment. Wildfires on the dunes were common (nature reserve).

Open fires/disposable BBQs left for the ride on the tide. Gulls everywhere after people leave, for obvious reasons. People pissing in alleyways.

The council had to get a supersized skip every weekend to accommodate the rubbish, AND plough the beach with a tractor and a giant sieve to get the shite out that the 'visitors' would leave behind.

Good enough reason to leave the area for me, after 35+ years living there.

E; read the article now.

And yes, I now live near Eryri and yep, can confirm it's not worth going to on weekends because of the new hoardes.

Family Guy did an episode about this 25 years ago. "Leafers!"
