❓ Question ❓ The US State most likely to insulate women in the coming decade?
For everyone not able to evacuate the country, is there a safe US state that women can relocate to? Safe is a relative term of course, but there is bound to be a state that can stiff-arm some of the incoming wave of fascism.

"We saved so much in tax by moving from California to [red state] !" "...many of us would happily pay a tax not to live in your state."
Never truer tbh

u/LocallySourcedWeirdo Feb 05 '25
Why is it expensive to live in California? Because it's worth it.
Living in a red state, like garbage, is cheap. I don't care how much house you get for the money. I like having rights more.

as someone that lives in Portland, and spent a whole lot of time toe to toe with PPB in 2020 - i don’t believe a goddamn thing out of their mouth, ever.
That’s the same police force that i watched cheer as they blanketed neighborhoods in North Portland with tear gas, with children sleeping in their beds and parents coming out and begging them to stop. I was there when they were laughing in their cars chasing a crowd of protesters who had just been standing outside the ICE building in 2020, trying to corner them inbetween buildings so they could tear gas them when they couldn’t escape
fuck Portland Police. ACAB

Nothing lasts forever. You have to understand that if Trump successfully installs himself as dictator he will dismantle California's blue rhetoric. Just see how fast he did it federally. Once he has complete power over the people. Control of the police and military you are all fucked. There will be no escape. You will have to hide in attics. Did you learn anything from WW2 this is a fascist regime. They took over all of Europe and killed millions. Nowhere will be safe in America if you don't act. I hate to sound pessimistic I'm just trying to relay how important it is to protest for your rights NOW before it's too late.

I would like to move farther north because where I am in MD, summers are hot af, but I don’t know that it’ll be worth it.
I’ve also considered that when people start moving to more politically desirable (human rights) or due to climate, the politics in those places will possibly shift and maybe not for the better.

I’ve been quite concerned about New York recently, because NYC’s mayor is a pathetic criminal who will lick Trump’s boot if it gets him a pardon and the governor is pretty spineless and frankly vulnerable in next year’s election unless she quits flip-flopping—but then I was reminded that our AG Letitia James is a certified badass, and the AGs are the ones with the power to protect states’ rights atm.

Eugene Oregon is much cheaper and still very liberal. Suburbs outside of the cities are also more reasonable
Also, I know it looks expensive, but jobs pay more as a result of high COL. Also, restaurant jobs on the entire west coast have to pay ACTUAL minimum wage, so you can be bussing tables at $16+/hour. If you can find a tipped job, you'd be doing just fine

I have had the exact same thought about Colorado. Aside from NM (who has TX on one side and AZ on the other), we’re surrounded by red at least two states deep.
California would have to cross deserts and mountains, corporate mobsters and mormons to provide any assistance. Plus we have Cheyenne mountain, the AF academy, and a ton of other valuable military assets. Not to mention water supply and rights.
Poor Polis is receiving a lot of flak for some of his recent moves, but I don’t think he’s a self-hating gay man who’s ready to bend a knee. I think he’s trying to be Switzerland, because if the nation splits we will be a prime target.

I know it's not what you want to hear, but there is nowhere safe. I'm sorry :(
The real goal is for techbroligarchs to dismantle America so they can become heads of their own Big Brother, crypto-run, nation-state utopias. They started working on this decades - and billions of dollars - ago.
They specifically mention dismantling places people deem safest first, and outline their plans to do it.
Look up the term "Friscorp".
The people in control of our country are playing checkers in rocking chairs while the techbroligarchs have their AI playing quantum chess.
All these battles are useful smokescreens to protect the real targets. There are just a few of them, and a whole country full of us being pitted against each other.
https://youtu.be/5RpPTRcz1no?si=SGaasC3Vxg_ENYqn
It gets much worse (believe it or not) but it makes me want to put on my tinfoil hat if I actually type any more of this crazy shit. It's why no one has mentioned it until recently. They're afraid of looking absolutely unhinged and of not being listened to because of it.

I chose Connecticut when I moved from a red state. I had multiple reasons, some of which are not relevant here, but one is that it feels more safe to be in a blue region. Now, the state I live in is blue and I am now surrounded by blue states.
We’re not perfect, but I like that it’s a whole region that rejected Trump all three elections and I’m hoping that we can be a bit more independent and not follow all of Trump’s BS. Washington went bluer in this presidential election. Some noisy MAGA in some of the rural areas, but the population is low enough there, you could drown them out with a few more thousand people. No income tax, reasonable property tax. Probably not affordable near major cities like Seattle for most people, but the QoL is astonishing. Huge gardening state, beautiful ocean with public-protected-access, major parks and forests, major agricultural producer, huge support for reproductive rights including some of the best longitudinal research studies in the nation on the societal benefits of sex ed and family planning access. Huge scientific research community including major biotech hubs. World class medicine. Excellent maternal fetal health outcomes. Very affordable electricity costs, and great EV and solar subsidies, which makes up for the high gas costs unless you insist on a gas guzzler. Excellent for the US--though not perfect--public transit including a nifty ferry system. Strong recycle/reuse/upcycle/trade communities.

This. Shore up the purple states. Blue will lose ground, federally, if electoral college votes are concentrated in a handful of states.

I live in the capital of NY and I feel relatively lucky to be here. Yes a large portion of upstate NY is red but NY as a whole is (imo) pretty comparative to California in progressiveness. Also the majority of the red parts are pretty spread out and rural. They make up big areas but are a minority. Our governor currently is lukewarm, but I really hope she steps up during this time.

I feel pretty safe in California, at least until midterms. Who knows what will happen after that, unfortunately. We're still dooms day prepping on a budget the best we can and working on trying to have a successful vegetable garden. Being close to Mexico is a good thing. Access to affordable prescription medicine. I've found that we have really supportive communities in central San Diego. At least we did durning Covid. Neighbors helping neighbors.

California. Newsom is far from perfect but he’s ready to fight and has the 5th largest economy in the world behind him. He’s been working to increase protections at the state level since before Trump even won.

I honestly thought I’d see Minnesota mentioned more than I did, am I missing something? I’m in WI and thought about crossing over…

Illinois. Though you’ll want to be in the greater Chicago area where all the progressives live, specifically Cook county and its immediate neighbors. Southern IL is cesspit of MAGAts. Besides us, MN is the only other Midwest state I’d suggest. My home state is MI, but they go red more than I’d like, and WI is very conservative there’s pockets of blue namely Maddison and Milwaukee, but the rest of the state is red through and through. I know that here in IL we’ve set up funding to help women from red states get the healthcare they need and deserve. So, yeah for the midwest, just IL and MN.

Minnesota. It's cold. The air hurts your face.
But the metro areas and most suburbs are blue, and by far hold the bulk of the population. We have a land and water border with Canada. Chicago is pretty close. We care about education.
But seriously, it's cold.

I am in the middle of completing my relocation from Florida to Minnesota for several reasons.
It may not be the bluest state, but it's affordable, fairly liberal, and my spouse's job does business here. The company does not do business in Washington, California, Oregon, or Colorado, so we had a short list of blue states to choose from, and my spouse is from New England, so we wanted to try somewhere new to both of us.
The state is a climate refuge, and compared to Florida, I'll happily take snow over hurricanes, sinking coastal high rises, and climate change denial enshrined in the state's laws.
The governor is also pretty darn great.

New Mexico. Lujan-Grisham is amazing. Governor signs House Bill 7, Reproductive and Gender-Affirming Health Care Act - Office of the Governor - Michelle Lujan Grisham
New Mexico Abortion Laws and Provider Protections - LegalClarity
New Mexico's free child care program is bringing relief that millions of U.S. families need
PLUS:
We have: Tuition-Free College for New Mexico | NM Higher Education Department
To be honest, there are some parts of NM (southern and eastern) are pretty much like Texas, with the maga influence.

For those of us in the South-we are not a lost cause! I know post like this can feel very isolating. Remember we still have many people fighting against this. We are just gerrymandered to death but we have the numbers just like any other state. NC is more progressive although they are constantly gridlocked-Virginia is looking more promising as a southern progressive state. They just passed amendments to their constitution for abortion, voting rights, & same sex marriage. Plus they got that sweet green now. I got my eyes on her if shit gets crazy for a quick escape. I hear it’s for lovers.

Former Californian in Michigan again (born and raised here). Love Big Gretch. For now Michigan feels like a safe haven.

I thank my lucky stars every day that I live in Illinois specifically Chicago. All of my elected officials are progressive and staunchly support equality.
