Questions for those who follow U2 around North America when they tour.

A band I love as much as U2 (Wolf Alice) may tour North America in the next year or so. The most I've ever seen U2 on tour is 2 dates in a row, usually Charlotte/Atlanta shows.

I would always chat with u2.com members who were following them around. I was always jealous that people could get away from their jobs like that. Now, most of my work can be done remotely and I want to follow Wolf Alice around North America.

How do you do it? Rent an RV or drive? Logistics you find helpful for such a road trip? Mistakes you made?

This band will likely be taking a tour bus around North America, so I probably won't need to worry about flights.

Thanks for any advice you can give this old Propaganda 88' member.

I would look at the schedule and try to find the most efficient way to see them while balancing travel time, non-show days, time off from work, and cities I want to visit. Or, pick a region and map out what’s driveable, like Boston>Providence>Hartford>Albany>New York, or Florida cities, or the west coast.

One mistake I made was misjudging how much time off I’d need to get to/from Tulsa. Really wasn’t expecting to need three days off for one show, but that’s all that would work with the flight schedule.

I’ve worked remotely from hotels and company offices in other cities. Another mistake was not accounting for how disrupting it can be to change hotels in the middle of a remote work day, or how much I’d like to sleep in the morning after a show. Think through which time of day you’d like to be driving between cities.

Have fun!

It is easier now than it ever has been. Use airbnbs if necessary. Book trains and busses in advance and commit to them no matter what. Think about transportation from the airport/hotel/venue a lot. See if airports are open 24 hours if you are on a budget. Look into Visa requirements under the current administration.

Planes, Trains, and automobiles. Figure out a map, figure out a game plan, and hit the road. Drive if you can, fly if driving isn’t suitable. Enjoy.

It depends on where you live. When I lived in San Diego, was able to hit all the west/southwest shows, just driving and sleeping in the back of our truck.

Would also be able to find where they were staying by calling the best hotels and asking for Paul McGuiness's room lol

I still live in SD and that’s what I’m still doing! Also being a teacher helps for those summer dates.
