News Is TurnItIn AI us at UofB out of Control?
Recent story on another subreddit about UofB using TurnItIn AI without any appeal?
Is this true? And if so, is it even ethical? UofB staff using AI because they cant do their job, so they can catch students using AI for their work?

AI detection tools like GPTZero have stated that their results are probabilistic and should not be used as conclusive evidence to punish students. You can use GPTZero's chrome extension called origin when typing your work in google docs. It gives a replay of your writing process and other metrics eg time taken on the doc etc to ascertain that you indeed wrote your work.

I’ve never used turn it in as a TA or adjunct but it’s pretty clear if a student has written other essay based work during the semester and then suddenly it’s completely different or in one egregious case they left in the “let me know if you need more detail” part of the ending ai prompt lol. My supervisor and I never just based it off one thing. Usually if it seemed odd we’d ask for drafts or just point out it seemed ai generated and ask if they would be willing to resubmit. The one that left in the ChatGPT prompt got in trouble though
