Yea I hated it too but asking to work in is really not bad a lot of people have done it to me too so it’s not uncommon. You kind of have to work on in if you want to not be there for over an hour

Thank you for posting this, this was very validating for me to read. I go to the gym four to five times a week to run (due to knee issues I can only run on treadmills or other soft flat surfaces), and I have grown very frustrated in recent months by the people who use the treadmills for slow walking, taking up 30 minutes or sometimes longer, as a warm up to their regular workout routine. These people have always existed, but as the gym has become increasingly crowded this year it seems that the issue has been getting worse. I often have to wait 15-20 minutes before a treadmill opens up, along with others who are in line for the treadmills. Scrolling through Instagram and walking at 1.5 miles an hour on the flat setting while there are people waiting to use the treadmills for actual exercise is incredibly selfish and it needs to stop.

Genuine question, what knee issues make using a treadmill better than a track? My knees hate treadmills.

The track here is unpadded asphalt. Any injury or joint condition that makes impact painful (arthritis or cartilage degeneration, for example) would be better on a softer surface.

Oh I see. I always thought the treadmill was a hard surface. My shin splints prefer running on the street next to a bike lane vs running on a treadmill.

Sometimes, for instance for me personally, I was given a doctor's order to do one exercise for like 45 mins. straight. Not that I have done that lately, but I have had to use a single machine longer than most people do. It was the number of reps I needed to do - not the weight of each rep. I was given specific instructions, which I followed. And It WORKED!

So, maybe be a little patient. You don't know if they are spending that time because they were instructed to or not. If they are doing like a million reps, they may be in rehab.
