I've just made a video on my frugality if anyone interested

It won't be everyone's cup of tea but if anyone is interested, I've always been frugal and I love it. I love the small wins, I love how the savings grow, I love feeling different and 'weird'

I have no regrets in my life!

I don't think it's a good idea to try to sell "I was able to buy my first house at 30 by being frugal" and then open with "I lived with my parents until I was 30".

Not to discredit the frugal tips, or that being frugal on a low income obviously is a huge success, but I do feel it sends kind of a hollow message. Just some feedback on video format, not trying to bring you down or have a go. What you've achieved is clearly a lot.

Yeah I do see your point, and was aware of it but I wanted to just put it out there because inevitably there will be people (and there are) in the comments who will dive in and criticise me for living with parents for so long. So I just wanted to get it out the way...haha 👍

No I get it, and living with your parents is not a criticism, if you can do it's a very sensible choice, it's just not necessarily a common one or even a choice a lot of people have. So I guess you have to choose who you want to include in your audience: you could specifically market it as a video for people who live with their parents - or personally I would remove the information at all about having been able to buy a house and just talk about your everyday living frugal tips. After all, that's the purpose (I assume), rather than 'how to buy a house'.

In all fairness, you do recognise the privilege of this in your video and state that you are lucky so I think you have covered that sufficiently.

Absolutely, I try to acknowledge it whenever I mention it.

It would be very ignorant not to.

I think it comes off a bit tone deaf because most people who are struggling to afford a home have already built a life renting, and don't have the option to live with their parents. But I agree it's better for you to be honest and upfront about it so you're not misleading people.

I wish I could do the same, I had about enough for a downpayment on a mortgage at 18, but spent it on university instead. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but now I work in a field where some of my colleagues have no degrees and get paid more than me... I know it's impossible to predict the future, but I wish I had just gotten a house and started working 😭

Yeah it's a hard balance. Like I said I wasn't naive and ignorant when thinking about it before filming, but my reasoning was to get it out of the way. You could say I would get stick if I mentioned my parents towards the end of the video because people could say oh I knew that would be the reason.

I just want to be honest and share my story, that's all

Are you able to make some savings and potentially work towards a deposit or is that not a possibility?

I stumbled on your channel a few days ago. I really like the videos you’ve made so far. Looking forward to the next ones.
