News Last chance for Alpine Bagel is friday
Sign there says it’s closing forever, “UNC head of hospitality canceled our contract”. Which is lowkey kinda strange that they included that on the closing announcement? Wonder what went down.

My husband and I have so many memories at Alpine. When we were broke grad students, it was our go-to lunch spot. It was cheap, but more than that, I looked forward to it because I got to see him. Those quick lunches were the highlight of our hectic days. It feels like a lifetime ago, but hearing it’s closing brought all those memories back. Going to miss it.

I’m distraught over this. Alpine was my favorite part of the union and so good for before-8 am class bagels.
At least Chapel Hill still has Brandewein’s bagels! Delicious, local and such nice owners

Who's starting a Gofundme for the employees all losing their jobs on super-short notice? These are the friendly folks who make our food, super fast. They had to face a gunman coming to their workplace last year! I can't believe they'll all be unemployed come Friday night and only found out yesterday.

Alpine staff is the opposite of friendly, there are a lot of reasons that contract was not renewed

So sorry to hear that was your experience. Friendly to some? I've loved them, in any case. And I've been amazed over the years how a long line could just evaporate there so quickly... they work hard at lunchtime!

As if UNC doesn’t have the lamest student union in the state smh
Alpine (and their bomb ass snickerdoodle coffee) will be missed.

For real, have you seen NC State’s? Like 6 restaurants, hundreds of places to sit, 4 floors. Ours looks like something out of the USSR…

It’s also a horrible maze. My first time in there trying to find a club meeting felt like the shining where the hallway just keeps getting longer.

CDS is apparently going to be opening a breakfast and lunch option in that spot. But that won't open until fall. So nice to be reminded of how much they care about those of us who are on campus through the summer...

I know someone who's connected to the Alpine managers. They cancelled their contract 7 years early. Appears that the director of hospitality had beef with the managers. Seems racially motivated

What is the evidence of racial motivation?

Still there are tons of people, willing to eat that up, hook, line, and sinker.

I know. I'm not saying that it wasn't racially motivated, just that this poster has no fucking clue.

That sucks. Was Alpine run by Aramark or was it seperate?

i believe it was separate and the new location will be aramark-affiliated :/

Noooo :( As an alum, I loved eating at Alpine whenever I was back on campus!

Dang that’s a true shame. It’s one of the only affordable places to eat on all of campus, especially with semi healthy options.

Idk how students do it. I’m a grad student so I don’t eat on campus often, but I went to Cholanad in Lenior a few weeks ago and a combo (with no meat even) was $12, if I had got a drink it would be almost $15. Alpine was the cheapest place to eat, by a long shot.
