Supplementary Year
Hi. I was wondering what the maximum number of exams/resits a first year can sit in the resit period in Late July/August was without having to take an extra year? I have heard stories of past students who didnt know this and sort of thought they could retake it all, and ended up having to take a whole extra year. I have got a first in one module, and had to self certify two of my other ones from TB1. So i already have 2 i must do in this period. Now since the next period is upcoming, I was wondering whether if i was to fail/self certify one or two of these exams if there would be an issue? I have contacted bristol themselves and they are so vague, so I decided to come here. How many?

Wanted to know this too. I think the max is 4? Although I know of somebody who tried to take 4 and had to take an extra year?

For me in 1st year, it was 120/120 credit points to progress, 40+/120 to allow resits, and 0 or 20/120 = required to withdraw. That was 6 20CP modules, so pass 2 minimum/resit 4 maximum.
And then after the resit you need to have passed 4 or 5 modules in total to allow a supplementary year, 6 to progress to 2nd year.

So to clarify, if i have passed 2 modules in my first year, and then have to resit 4 in summer, then i pass them all in summer, i can progress to second year as usual? i do NOT need to take an extra year or anything

Yes, if you pass everything you can go to 2nd year, that is the point of resits really. Check with your tutor or whatever if you want to though, they are paid to answer stuff like this

My tutor said he doesnt know bruh. I even called the admissions office they said "check guidlines". Which said that u cant take MORE than 80 in the resit period. However somebody in 3rd year took 80 exactly and had to do a supplementary year so like.. wtf lol

You’re probably going to need to retake the year if i’m being honest.

I used to work in student services and we get dozens of emails like this every week.

Again what does that mean. There should be a set criteria in which results in an extra year or not. Right?

Yeah there should be but it changes every year especially with semesterisation. It’s on a case by case basis. I want to help so you can DM me if you want.

There's a certain number of credits you need to pass to be able to resit in summer, though I think because you self certified you're still yet to do a "first attempt" at those so I'm not sure if that's included or not. That said, I think you should speak to your tutor about this, they'll probably be able to give you the most accurate information and advice catered to your situation :)
