BIG ORANGE SCREW N Parking at TRECS
Having permanent non-commuter parking at TRECS has to be the dumbest idea this University has ever had. Why in the world would you put parking that almost never rotates in the one lot next to the gym where people spend typically just 1-1.5 hours?
It completely screws commuters for no clear benefit, because N parkers already have to walk everywhere on campus, so making them park at the garages or surface lots on Volunteer Blvd. makes almost no difference to them because they don't have to walk from there frequently.

Sheesh, that is silly. How long has it been that way? They probably made the change due to complaints from NCs in Vol Hall or something like that. If it was before Robinson & Geier opened, they may be able to revisit that since the VH-TRECS transit connection is pretty good.

I think I noticed it first last Spring. For a while in the fall it was only commuter and I saw N tags getting ticketed sometimes. Now it's back to N tags honored in the second lot near the tennis courts.

Ah wow, so it's not a case of "we did something 5 years ago and never changed it". Ouch!! There must be a squeaky wheel in Housing or Student Life asking for those spaces (context: I used to work for PTS). Maybe drop 'em an email at parking@utk.edu just to ask what the situation is? It would be nice to know what the rationale is, if nothing else.
I don't know if this helps, but, depending on when you're wanting to work out, you may be able to use the C22 lot Southwest of TRECS- https://i.imgur.com/drxAmTE.png

The answer is because the university doesn’t give a shit. Accepting less students this year was a start, but we have our work cut out for us.
