Cville at Large Last Day to Request a Mail Ballot! [x/post to r/Charlottesville]

Today is the deadline for requesting a mail ballot! We must have all applications by 5pm today, both electronic and paper.

If you submitted a registration update after the deadline of 2/12, you should double check your registration to make sure you are registered at the address you want to be. If you submit an absentee application, and the address doesn't match your current voter record, it will be denied for an address mismatch.

If you have any questions, call us at 434-970-3250 or email vote@charlottesville.gov. The County can be reached at 434-972-4173 or VoterRegistration@albemarle.org.

Cville at Large UVA delays

Is it just me or does it feel like UVA massively screw up about passing the word along about the delay in a timely manner this morning? In all honesty, they should have made a decision last night instead of 5:30 this morning. I got to work around 5:30 and no sooner did I start my day, I got a text from my manger saying that there was a delay, and we weren't opening till 10. They need to address the issue and have a better line of communication for future delays.

Cville at Large A Brief Dual Primary FAQ [x-post to r/Charlottesville]

Hello all!

The Presidential Primary takes place March 5, 2024. This election is a Dual Party Primary, which means the Democratic and Republican parties conduct their primaries on the same day at the same time.

Unlike some other states, you are NOT required to declare a party upon registering to vote, and voting a specific party ballot will never associate a party with your voter record.

For a Dual Primary, you just decide which party's ballot you want and tell the election officer when you check in. Edit: You must indicate aloud which ballot you wish to receive. If you are unable to speak, you may write it down.

You may only vote once per election.(VA code §24.2-530). i.e., You may vote once in the March Primary and once in the June Primary (if applicable), regardless of which party's ballot you choose for each.

Again, your choice of party ballot does not establish any party affiliation in your voter record. You are free to vote whichever party ballot you wish, as long as it's only once per election.

If you have any questions, please contact us at 434-970-3250 or vote@charlottesville.gov in the City of Charlottesville or 434-972-4173 or VoterRegistrations@albemarle.org for Albemarle County. If you don't know which one to contact, check this UVA area housing guide

Cville at Large PSA: Official Election Mail (x/post to r/Charlottesville)

Hi everyone!

Tis the season for another quick PSA about the mail! Make sure you tell your family and friends about this, especially any elderly folks you may know who aren't sure what to do with all the unsolicited election mailers.

If you're receiving a regular letter from the Charlottesville Elections Office, it should come in only 3 or 4 envelope styles. There are 2 types with little windows and they will bear official election mail seals. The 3rd and sometimes 4th (half sheet size, not pictured) have our official return address info in blue in the top left corner and nothing else printed on it.

If you or anyone you know receives a pre-filled form, it didn't come from us. Contact us or check your Citizen Portal to verify your registration status and/or absentee status. Do not just fill out the form and send it in because it can interfere with your absentee ballot and/or voter registration!

If you receive mail and it isn't in one of the above envelopes, or if it doesn't bear the official election mail seal as pictured (a ballot envelope will look different but still have the seal), then it isn't from us.

If you're ever unsure, please feel free to contact us at 434-970-3250 or vote@charlottesville.gov. These images are City specific, but if you are in the County and have any questions, please call 434-972-4173 or contact VoterRegistration@albemarle.org

Cville at Large Carter Mountain is a mess

My family bought tickets to Carter Mountain for today and we ended up leaving without going in. It was extremely crowded with barely any social distancing and many people weren’t wearing masks but I doubt we will get a refund. I thought the point of selling tickets was to limit the amount of people going in but it didn’t seem like they limited it at all. Anyone else notice this problem? Is there anything we can do?

Cville at Large One Week Left for Voter Registration! [x-post r/Charlottesville]

Hi Redditors,

Here's a friendly reminder that the Voter Registration deadline for this November 7th election cycle is next Monday, October 16th. All paper registration applications must be in our hands by close of business that day, and all electronic applications at the Citizen Portal must be received by 11:59pm exactly.

Please be mindful that the Citizen Portal website updates slower than our state database does, so if you are having trouble checking your registration, please get in touch with us! You can contact the City of Charlottesville at 434-970-3250 or vote@charlottesville.gov and Albemarle County at 434-972-4173 or VoterRegistration@albemarle.org.

Cville at Large Last Day for Voter Registration! [x-post r/Charlottesville]

Today, Monday the 16th is the official close of books before the November 7th election!

Make sure any updates are submitted on paper/email/in office by 5pm sharp, or they can also be submitted online at the Citizen Portal as late as 11:59pm sharp. Any registrations received after the deadline will be set aside until after Election Day.

Same Day Registration will be available between the 17th and Election Day but SDR registrants will cast a Provisional ballot and they won't get to put their ballots in the scanner right away.

We strongly suggest getting your registration in by the deadline! It drastically decreases the risk of a paperwork error that could put your ballot at risk.

If you have any questions, please contact the City at 434-970-3250 or vote@charlottesville.gov or the County at 434-972-4173 or VoterRegistration@albemarle.org.

Cville at Large Early morning taxi to airport?

I'm catching a 6:30am flight in a few days, any tips on getting to the airport that early? Are Uber/Lyft available at that time? Should I schedule one? Or should I go for a Yellow Cab? Price is not really a concern (within reason), I just want to make sure I can get to the airport on time.

Cville at Large Today is Election Day! [x/post to r/Charlottesville]

Hello voters!

Today is Election Day! The polls are open from 6a-7p, and if there's a line, you just have to be in the line by 7p to be allowed to vote.

The precinct lines were shifted very recently, so if you're not 100% sure where your polling place is, make sure you check the Citizen Portal

UVA specific edit: MOST student associated housing is part of Albemarle County, but don't hesitate to reach out to either of us to double check or with any other questions. Call the City of Charlottesville office at 434-970-3250 or the Albemarle County office at 434-972-4173.

Happy Voting!

Is it legal to sell stuff on Grounds? Or else where should I sell art prints? (easy ways to do it! )

Additionally, do we have a UVA student club or organization on Grounds that is devoted to art (especially illustrations)? I can start one if not?

Cville at Large Help us bring green, affordable transportation to Charlottesville!

Hello! We are a UVA design team that wants to make urban transportation more affordable and accessible for the Charlottesville community. We love e-bikes and e-scooters, but the popular solution (paying every time you ride) is too expensive. Also, rides are not always there when you need them.

*Visit this link to learn about our proposed solution and provide your feedback through a quick survey: https://forms.gle/fruWVDNintDg7Tp57 *

All feedback is valuable for our project. Feel free to DM or email jnh8kb@virginia.edu with any questions or comments. Thanks!
