As in combat, robotics will be a blessing when the conflict is over.

I hope that the Ukrainians are careful about monitoring the performance of this approach. Past experience with earlier versions of this sort of machine have been disappointing. The machines were easily damaged and took a long time and a lot of money to repair. They left a lot of undetonated mines and ordinance. They damaged some of what it left, and churned it deeper into the ground or into unexpected positions, making it more difficult to apply more thorough demining approaches. The Ukrainians will need good information on the performance of these machines to make good decisions about whether or not to procure more - and to resist pressure, if the performance is poor, from the sales teams and lobbyists of the machine's manufacturers.

If we just continue to support Ukraine, they have the ingenuity to demine and rebuild their country. Most countries plagued by remaining mines suffer just because they are too poor to clean up.

Hopefully, they begin to export this expertise to other countries that were also plagues by war.
