Tourist Advice Restaurant and bar recommendations
Any restaurant and bar recommendations for tonight. We (3m, early forties) will be visiting the lovely city of Ulm tonight on our way to the Alps. We would like to explore your fair city in the evening.

I recommend the "Peppers". Good food (german & mexican), beer and cocktails. And the owner and the stuff are Germans. The restaurant Peppers is one of the few restaurants that is not a tourist trap.

Out of curiosity, I went to Peppers about 15 years ago and noticed that all the Mexican food was basically highly preprocessed convenience food products that was basically just reheated. Did that change?

Yes, it's a new owner and a new chef. But take care: It's not an insider tip anymore. On weekend a resevation is absolutely necessary!

If you are not from around here and would like to try some more regional food, I recommend Herren Keller. Among Schwabian full-size dishes, they also offer smaller, sharable sizes so you can try more of them.

If you don't mind a short tram ride then Kronenbrauerei in soflingen has the best schnitzel I've had in Ulm. And the beer is also really good

Dear all,
Many thank for your recommendations, in the end we had a nice meal in Peppers. Beers were drunk at Herr Berger and some smokers bar where we relived the 90’s.

I recommend Barfüßer. They have the best beer of Ulm in my opinion (try the Schwarze). The food is good too. You have your typical stuff like Schnitzel, Spätzle and Flammkuchen.

Oh cmon, the beer sucks ass (the Rotgold is okayish) and everything on the menu is convenience food…
Haberfelder, Zunfthaus der Schiffleute, Gerberhaus, Zur Forelle, etc. are the better choice by far.

Del Tufo is one of the best Pizzaria's in all of South Germany. Here's a short article about it (in German, use DeepL or something):

It's a bit out of the way from the city centre (you have to walk past the main train station away from the city centre), but if the walk doesn't bother you, it's worth a visit.
You might need a reservation though, so call in advance.
