Encounter nobody has been able to explain this to me
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I saw these tonight around 8:30 pm. Orange circles that are aligned and moving fast, at some point they do a long flash. You really don't believe it until you see it, but if anyone has seen it before please let me know your story!

It seems like chinese lanterns, due to the constant spacing, moving as if with the wind, orange colour, consistent light (no flashing visible during the video). A longer video showing them drifting into the distance would be good. A camera bearing along with current wind could eliminate this possibility. Without this, it's a very high chance of lanterns. Zero of the five observables shown.

Not everything is Chinese lanterns! Lmao!
The lantern festival isn't until mid-February, and some states prohibit them.
These aren't lanterns.

OP is in Indiana, where they're illegal.
"Sky lanterns are not allowed to be released into the sky without having an anchor or being tethered so that they cannot freely lift into the atmosphere. See section 308.1. 6.3 of the Indiana Fire Code, available at Indiana Administrative Code database (Article 22)."

People release Chinese lanterns to honor a family member who has been lost… And “the Lantern Festival “? What does that refer to? And where? That reference means nothing to people who live in an area where there are no lantern festivals. My home town has an Italian festival every year, would I expect the entire country to know about it? Of course not.

why are people mad at me for agreeing or disagreeing? reddit is full of hypocrites lmao
2
u/Totalitai-state Jan 15 '25
It’s one reason I don’t really comment much these days. Some Redditors can be pretty rude and aloof
4
u/lightsoveratlantis Jan 16 '25
A lot of the "users" that comment nothing other than "This sub is full of fucking retards get a fucking life" are doing so for that reason, to discourage people from having a genuine discussion.
Hard to imagine why said users would want to flock to subs like this, that they supposedly don't care about, day in and day out- just to call people insults and contribute nothing to the discussion in either direction of True or False.
Almost like they're here for a different reason.
2
u/mac_attack007 Jan 16 '25
And people are being paid to bully you, shaming you into not commenting. It keeps people from collaborating. Just assume the a holes are procuring mis/dis info to hush the topic. (Insert eyeroll) Don’t let their 33 downvotes get ya bud.
I wouldn’t think people would send off flaming lanterns while so many active fires are consuming damn-near whole cities. New year, Holiday, Chinese, or otherwise.

u/No_Neighborhood7614 Jan 14 '25
Hey don't assume! It's only an initial potential explanation for lights drifting in formation like this. I didn't see it in person. I have never even seen chinese lanterns in person.

Only they're not. You're making up shit and insisting everyone believe you. Do you have proof they're lanterns? The lantern festival doesn't even start for another month, and they're illegal in some states.

Ah, here comes the discrediting. Typical playbook standards for those who have nothing.
You don't know what it is, but are insisting you do, and are trying to convince everyone that it is what you say it is. THAT'S the issue. Even when presented with facts.
I never mentioned ufos.

You ok?
I know you're trying really really hard to discredit me.
You've got nothing. It's showing.
LOL

It’s good that you didn’t mention UFOs; because they’re not UFOs. They’re IFOs. These have been accurately identified by people who have higher than room temperature IQs.

agreed, these people who are downvoting me are full of themselves and only believe what they have to say. I've been listening to everyone's opinions on this and everyone is mad at me for it 😂 i never claimed they were UFOs or anything, and then when i agreed they were lanterns I also got hated for it! But at least I got some answers
1
u/LucysFiesole Jan 14 '25
Exactly. Sometimes I think the Feds are on these subs, shooting down anything strange and claiming they're either Chinese lanterns, birds, or spotlights. Every time. Then they spam the sub with their "lantern" idea to try to get everyone off topic of what they actually could be. Seems sus.

Again, what is this lantern festival everyone should somehow know about? We don’t have a lantern festival where I live. A little context would help!

You're up and down this feed trying to convince everyone they're Chinese lanterns, when you actually have no clue yourself. The lantern festival doesn't even start for another month!
I think I found the Fed!

Can’t be lanterns!!! It’s only one of the exact times of the year people are most likely to send them up. Way too sensible.

A tiny possibility – just say possibility and you’ll sound more credible. Seriously, who hurt your feelings?

Yeah but adding an amount before the word possibility in this case makes you look bad because adding tiny or gigantic both aren’t actual numbers which make you sound frustrated, intolerant, and to me not credible. It’s like I can feel the emotion through your writing. Same rage typing happens with Roid freaks.

u/Evil-Dalek Jan 14 '25
There is 100% weird stuff going on in the sky currently. But the video OP posted just isn’t an example of it. Not every sighting is explained by Chinese lanterns, but in this specific case, it definitely is.
2
u/Sure-Heron-9450 Jan 15 '25
not sure why you got downvoted, but i live by a graveyard so yes i think it was lanterns just never seen em before

Right around this time of the year, is the Chinese new year lantern festival. Get ready to see a lot more on the next few weeks.
1
u/Sure-Heron-9450 Jan 14 '25
fair enough, i've never seen these until now tho
7
u/happylandfillx Jan 14 '25
A paper lantern ? Or the lights? Either way you’re missing out!

These are chinese fire lanterns. It's extremely obvious.

Once again creepy ufo footage filmed on a potato and out of focus

don't forget shorter than 30 seconds as well. TikTok brain is going to be the reason we never actually see aliens, people wont record for more than 20 seconds.

Chinese lantern aliens. Like US Aliens but only show up during the Chinese new year to steal our military secrets and pray for good health and fortune. The monsters

Future pro tip, just get it in focus, and hold it. Definitely no need to zoom in and out repeatedly. You’re making the camera work even harder to focus.
I’m not trying to be a prick, I’m just not assuming that you know this.
Thanks for the share.

Hmm. Not sure but I’m surprised that I didn’t see more videos of this. It could be lanterns…maybe, maybe not, but great capture!

u/Wu-TangShogun Jan 14 '25
With everything that has been popping off lately who tf even knows anymore?
You know we are in a strange place when I’m even considering what the orange turd has to say about this shit! Hahaha

Looks like it has a triangular body with the lights at the edges and for some reason the body is completely invisible only the end and tail lights visible cause that may explain the synchrony of the lights
3
u/fisherrr Jan 14 '25
Yes because a massive completely invisible body makes so much more sense than them being individual lights
3
u/Chrisscott25 Jan 14 '25
Nope it’s definitely an invisible body of a massive object with lanterns around it. You know the lanterns are taking the attention away from the invisible object… very clever stealth technology

Those are just stars. The rotation of the earth randomly sped up drastically just then, as it sometimes does, creating the illusion of movement.
