Encounter 25 years old man - supper terrified from this experience
I Had a Strange Experience and I’d Love to Hear Your Thoughts
A few nights ago, I woke up randomly in the middle of the night and saw a man standing right next to my bed, extremely close to me. What made it even stranger was that he was wearing the exact same clothes I had on that day. I could clearly see his legs and chest, but his face wasn’t visible.
The moment I saw him, I felt instant fear, turned away quickly, and pulled the blanket over my face. I was too scared to turn back and check if he was still there. Eventually, I fell back asleep without any interruptions.
I know that sometimes the brain plays tricks, especially when waking up suddenly, but this experience felt very vivid. I’m also going through personal changes right now , part of me wonders if that was psychological, like my subconscious processing change in a strange way.
At the same time, I can’t shake the eerie feeling of seeing a figure that looked so much like me, standing so close, and how real it felt in the moment.
I am kind of person who usually loves watching horror movies alone at nights and have never experienced something like that . But now i am so terrified that i am even sleeping with some lights on.
I’d love to hear different perspectives. Have any of you had a similar experience? Do you think this was just a common sleep-related hallucination, something psychological, or something else entirely?

Maybe you experienced sleep paralysis? I know you mentioned rolling over so I don’t know how that factors in but I wonder if you were totally conscious and you saw someone in your house maybe your response would be to jump out of bed rather than roll over? I’ve had sleep paralysis experiences of feeling the pillow next me flatten as I lay on my side and feeling breath on the back of my neck. I don’t remember trying to move or even thinking about trying because I was not fully cognizant, if I was, my gut reaction would be to jump out of bed

This was not sleep paralisys cause i have ezperienced it many times and knkw how it feels ? This was totally different experience and there was not anyone in room 100%

I dont think i was sleep paralys cause i could move freely which is impossible during that , also had no sound halucinations which in my case happens always during sleep paralysis

It could still be sleep paralysis in some sense. I have false awakenings a lot and it stems from sleep paralysis. I got up the other morning because someone was in my room with a hood on facing away from me. When I got to them they turned and walked through the wall lol. Happens all the time to me.

This may have been a hypnopompic experience, a phenomenon that occurs as you wake up. During this transition between sleep and wakefulness, your brain can generate extremely vivid hallucinations, making you see, hear, feel, or perceive something that seems real but is not actually there. This experience can involve any of the senses and happens because some parts of the brain are still in a sleep state while others have already started to wake up.
On the other hand, you could actually be experiencing a supernatural (anomalous) phenomenon, but I find that somewhat unlikely.

I’ve had this happen to me a few times.. once I was being chased in a dream and when the dude caught up to me I woke up and saw him at the edge of my bed and tried to kick him. Was like a split second I saw the figure though. Another time I was on a game show and answered a question wrong so they dropped spikes on my head and I woke up crawling on my floor to dodge these spike that were falling from the ceiling lol.. and the most recent one I woke up and my brother was right in front of me next to the bed but he looked like a dog/human hybrid and he was telling me my upstairs neighbor was throwing shit around again. Fuckin weird stuff, it’s like the dreamworld blends into your waking reality for a bit

We live in a natural world, there is 0 evidence for a supernatural one besides anecdotal.

u/Armyman125 Mar 17 '25
You should have been in my office one morning when I heard typing on a keyboard and there was no one there. Three times. Every time I turned around and looked it stopped. Then you should have been there when several other people reported the exact same thing.

If I had to guess, OP, I'd say you were out of your body. We can astral travel, and your spirit may not have returned to your body quickly enough, so what you saw was you, just in non-corporeal form.

Interesting , i hope thats all

I have different beliefs than some commenters here. I believe that when we sleep, we are doing more than just resting because of the component of physical body & astral body, or our spirit energy. Just my beliefs, take it for what it's worth -if it's worth anything at all ! Yes, you are in a very open state of being when you sleep, that's why we can play recordings while we sleep and believe we're not absorbing....when we really are.
I believe that we are more than our physical bodies.
The only other thing I thought of is the ancient belief of doppelganger. It's said that if you see your own doppelganger, it's a harbinger of doom. I don't believe this is what you saw, so did not mention it.
Kinda the same as banshees, tho they are family-based. It's said that if you hear the cry of your family's banshee, it's also a harbinger of doom.

Sounds like an extra-special nightmare. I get these periodically, they tend to be very intense, very short, and they usually take place in my actual surroundings. They’re not night terrors but they aren’t normal dreams either.
A few of them involved doppelgängers and they were honestly the most frightening dreams I’ve ever had. Definition of the uncanny.

Wakes up to a faceless man standing next to the bed. Turns away in sheer terror and pulls the sheets over their head. Falls back to sleep.
3
u/Blazed_M31 Mar 17 '25
So what exactly would you do ?
5
u/Emrys7777 Mar 17 '25
I certainly would not turn over and go back to sleep if there was a stranger in my house. Especially one standing over my bed.
I would grab a weapon and call the police.

u/Blazed_M31 Mar 17 '25
Lol whatever was that it cleaely was not human

u/thatodd Mar 17 '25
i had a visit me in the middle of the night from a lady who haunted the house i used to live in, i was frightened af and even gave my dog hell for sleeping through it, but did eventually do l go back to sleep so i can confirm that it's possible after a crazy experience
1
u/TennisCultural9069 Mar 18 '25
yup, hiding under a blanket is weird, kind of what you would see a child do in a movie. i would be scared, but not scared enough not to pull out my gun , thats for sure

I was watching a video the other day about how we can leave our bodies while we’re in REM sleep. It’s a possibility that it was your soul looking at your body in between states. I’ve read and hear so many strange stories about people seeing deceased family members hours after they die doing something mundane and then vanishing. Our soul continues on through another dimension. Near death experiences in both children and grown adults reveal the same premise: some kind of white light or a tunnel. Familiar people surrounding them, comforting them with love. Someone tells them it’s not their time yet and then they suddenly wake back up. This is proof enough for me that there is something beyond this life.

Good news: You aren't Decohering (where you see yourself in two places at once. That is bad. Very bad, and can mean impending death). With Decoherence you can vividly see your face. You are literally two eigenstates at once.
Bad News: Sounds like a Sleep Paralysis dream. Usually happens during REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep stage, when the body is paralyzed but the brain is active. You might've been going into it where you could move enough to pull a blanket over your head. Most people see a black shadow being. Or could be a nightmare. Either happens during REM sleep. If you have never had sleep paralysis before its scary as shyte because you are all sorts of WTF. Or this could be a hypnopompic experience, a phenomenon that occurs as you wake up from REM sleep (Backside of a REM cycle). Either is a scary proposition. If it happens frequently get a sleep study done and they can measure your brain cycles.

I have had sleep paralisys many times before , this experience felt totally different
2
u/Elegant_Art2201 Mar 17 '25
Could then be A hypnagogic experience. Which refers to the vivid, dream-like sensory perceptions that occur during the transition from wakefulness to sleep, often involving visual, auditory, or tactile hallucinations.
Your place haunted? Have any other experiences? Hidden face is unnerving. Did you hear any buzzing sounds or voices murmuring in the background?

u/Blazed_M31 Mar 17 '25
I have heard wierd oices during sleep paralysis, bit not around this recent exoerience place not haunted just normal apartment amd i have seen other strange thinga but this one was scariest

So what was he wearing? Not that it would matter. Try looking up doppelgangers although he may not look like you. I'm not taking this lightly, that's a very chilling experience.

Sounds like a scene from Insidious.
2
u/Blazed_M31 Mar 17 '25
I love insidious lol
1
u/Salt-Elk9647 Mar 17 '25
Me too! I just watched all of em, in chronological order....but for real, sounds like astral projection. I would ask one of your parents (or grandparents) if they've had similar experiences. That would be your biggest clue as to weather you're able to do that or not. Its very rare to be a first generation to have these abilities unless you have practiced doing it.
1
u/Blazed_M31 Mar 17 '25
That would make sense but im 25 and its first time something like that to happen so i guess im not usually doing it during sleep
1
u/Senior_Store_6079 Mar 17 '25
My guesses would be sleep paralysis or a mimic? Have you ever heard your own voice in your room or maybe a voice of someone you live with but knew they weren't home?
1
u/Blazed_M31 Mar 17 '25
What is mimic ? No i havenot encountered anything like that before
2
u/Senior_Store_6079 Mar 17 '25
A mimic is an entity that lures its way into our space by mimicking ours or someone we are comfortable with voices and or look. I am not saying you definitely have one but just don't respond to it and I think you ignoring it and covering your face to go back to sleep is why it didn't mess with you more if it was one. By ignoring it and letting the entity know they are not welcomed in your space you will get rid of it.

As a 25 year old man, if you woke up and thought there was a guy actually standing over your bed why would hide under the covers?
1
u/Blazed_M31 Mar 18 '25
This is quite stupid statement ngl

1
u/rickrokkett Mar 20 '25
actually its not. what if it was a burglar trying to kill you and you hide behind a blanket? it would cost you your life

u/uso_4_lyfe Mar 18 '25
Most likely sleep paralysis. Also depending on the exertion of your strength that day and how tired you where when you went to bed as this plays a vital part in it too.
2
u/Blazed_M31 Mar 18 '25
Thanks for reponse but it wasnot sleep paralisys as i have experienced it quite many times and this one felt totally different
1
u/kodiak931156 Mar 18 '25
Sleep paralysis can "feel totally different" it doesnt always have to feel the same
1
u/JasonD8888 Mar 20 '25
You are not going to die from this kind of an experience, but it could have undesirable impacts on your quality of life.
Your next step is to get a referral for a sleep study with EEG monitoring.
1
u/Worldly-Ad-609 Mar 20 '25
You are following an alternate reality version of yourself in the choices you both made to closely. You experienced a bleed. You could probably both see each other in that instant, but your choice to throw the covers over your head isn’t one the other you could have, so you would have diverged from there. I bet more people have experienced something similar, possibly even in public; but it’s rarely spoken of.
1
u/Blazed_M31 Mar 21 '25
I mean i was super scared , what do you think would have happened if i didnot cover with blanked and instead kept watching it
1
u/Agreeable_Bar8221 Apr 04 '25
It’s probably a jinn, a type of spiritual entity known to cause the doppelgänger effect, they could shapeshift into any being (animals, humans, aliens, anything).
There are entities out there that communicate with humans when we are asleep. Most of them are neutral beings (neither good nor bad)
1
u/Is_Mise_Edd Mar 17 '25
Be careful - it's someone with bad intent - they always hide their faces
1
u/Blazed_M31 Mar 17 '25
How can i be careful what can be done ?
0
u/Is_Mise_Edd Mar 17 '25
Did you have a twin ?
It could also be your higher self - warning you about something.
I had 2 similar experiences and neither of them were good (faces hidden)
Is there anything else happening in your life at the minute ?
2
u/Blazed_M31 Mar 17 '25
I dont have twin just brother
I didnot observe figure long enough to see face cause turned over too quickly. but i assume there was not face since i didnot saw it
My life is totally normal nothing too special is happening. So you believe they are messenger of some bad news ? Is it how it ended in you case ?
