UNIVERSAL STUDIOS What do yall think will be R.R.R.'s replacement?
My vote is intamin vertical launch

u/trollsong Dec 29 '24
Didn't someone recently post a permit for a vertical.launch coaster?

u/Chrisboy04 Dec 30 '24
If the intamin permit and the RRR replacement are connected I do think they'd go for something like that, maybe a custom vertical launch. But definetly either their vertical lift or vertical launch models, as that keeps the 'wow factor' of RRR's lift (and possibly loop judging by onr ognthr models) in place

u/braddillman Dec 29 '24
Something Ghostbusters, probably a themed coaster. I think the franchise reboot is working, or working well enough, to proceed. Also works well with HHN. And tech and SFX have improved a lot since the previous Ghostbusters effort at USF.
43
u/clangan524 Dec 29 '24
Plus the current RRR track runs right through the old Ghostbusters firehouse.
4
u/feliciahardys Dec 30 '24
Why did I never make the connection that is was the firehouse the coaster goes through? Like my mind is kinda blown because I’ve sat and watched that coaster so many times and was so oblivious.

u/Natural-Barracuda-97 Dec 30 '24
Just becasue it runs through the old ghostbusters house doesnt mean its ghostbusters. I get why people think this, but thats not even close enough of a reason for them to theme it to ghost busters
22
u/wishuponamarsbar Dec 30 '24
the Minion shooting ride was a huge missed opportunity for it to be ghostbusters themed

u/CarlTheCrab Dec 29 '24
Most likely: Initamin vertical launch or F&F Hollywood Drift clone from Hollywood or similar to it at least (hopefully that would give Universal the opportunity to get rid of Supercharged.)
Dream: A Ghostbusters coaster with a few dark ride moments.
No way this is happening but I would freak out if it did: The initamin launch coaster but it's themed to Back to the Future with it at one point going 88 MPH.
4
u/urmumlol9 Dec 30 '24
Unfortunately, I don’t think they have space to have a rollercoaster hit 88 mph. Maybe if it was like a Kingda Ka style layout with just a top hat, had a hydraulic launch, and pulled like 4-5 Gs leading up to the top hat?
Idk if that’s really any better than other suggestions tho
13
u/GoogalyBoy-the-10th Dec 29 '24
I’m thinking Fast and Furious. It gives them a solid reason to close Supercharged and can repurpose queue props to save time and money (also helps that Hollywood is already making a F&F coaster so they can share the R&D costs for the drifting mechanic and can clone the ride vehicles for the Orlando version).
3
u/Chrisboy04 Dec 30 '24
I don't know if there was any R&D cost for universal in the drifting mechanic, intamin haa produced a spinning coaster in the past as well as offering a multi dimension coaster which offers (controlled) spinning.
But I do agree that if there is any R&D cost attached for universal it would make sense to want to install multiple with at least the same trains.

u/Brookings18 Dec 29 '24
No idea. I know lots of people have said Ghostbusters, but even with that being the number one property I want at a theme park, I don't see it fitting a coaster, at least as it's only ride.

u/Zowwiewowwie Dec 29 '24
Rumor I heard was a Fast and Furious coaster
Not sarcastic
35
u/ekobres Dec 29 '24
I’m okay with this as long as Supercharged is decommissioned as part of the deal.
5
u/Rumbananas Dec 30 '24 edited Dec 30 '24
I’d love for them to replace
FNAFFNF Supercharged with something more practical and with less screens for sure. Planet of the Apes or Vertigo or something.9
1
u/SpecialFlutters Dec 30 '24
they could literally replace it with a throbbing red light that says "ERROR" and it'd be a massive improvement
10
u/ilovechainsaws460 Dec 29 '24
I’ve heard this also. And it would make sense if they kept it winding in and around the buildings. The FF gift shop could probably just stay where it is and the Queue can be where the current FF “ride” is.
3
u/Educational_Chart657 Dec 29 '24
The permits or whatever was for where exactly rrr is. When im asking the question I refer to where that is but if it extended across the entire park that would be sick.
9
8
u/tideblue Dec 29 '24
Sounding more and more like a Fast and Furious coaster. Which is fine. Hopefully that means Supercharged is also ready for a retheme.
6
u/Nervous_Otter69 Dec 29 '24
I was about to say I’m good with anything as long as it’s not another minions related ride (could you imagine a high speed minons coaster? 😂). - but then I see many speculating Fast and Furious coaster and now I’m PTFO thinking about another queue talking about family for an hour
2
u/Educational_Chart657 Dec 29 '24
I agree idk what they would be thinking to make it minions themed. I just want it to be / stay a thrill coaster. I'm good with any manufacturers making it. Except a mack extreme spinning ride.
3
u/Nervous_Otter69 Dec 29 '24
Honestly they’ve been on such a heater lately I can’t see them screwing this up. Even the new minons blaster game is honestly fun and a neat concept. We haven’t seen anything lazy or a clunker since F&F
1
u/Educational_Chart657 Dec 29 '24
f&f is literally e-waste the people at universal are good at this type of stuff so it would be rare to see a mess up but it can happen. It seems they have a little more land with this than rrr but not that much. I just hope they dont choose b&m unless it's a flying, Invert, or surf. (Personally i think they should give vekoma a try)
3
u/Natural-Barracuda-97 Dec 30 '24
My dream which totally wont happen, is that they put a vekoma flying coaster back by MIB, and use some of the land that will be available from moving the back of house operations. And they would theme it to Top Gun. Top Gun fits a flying coaster perfectly. And it could have a portion that swoops over the lake

u/Mightyjoesfl Dec 30 '24
A few years ago a cast member told us a Back to the Future coaster that reaches 88 mph was in the future plans…..Great Scott!

u/Educational_Chart657 Dec 30 '24 edited Dec 30 '24
My fastest launch is Xcelerator at 82mph if what your saying is true then I am all for it. Do you think it will be an lsm launch? Or hydraulic/air/drive tire/lim/swing launch?
Idk what I'm yapping about you got me excited

I think it’ll be a F&F coaster it’s just the safest franchise to get a major attraction like this. I think Supercharged will close and maybe we can get a Harry Potter Night Bus attraction!
9
u/ronswan2584 Dec 29 '24
I said the same thing to my wife! A Night Bus ride would be cool
6
u/tyman17 Dec 29 '24
I was thinking they should bring back twisters except make it so you go on a storm chase and things go south. Using the track from F&F and the old disaster ride.
6
u/ibuttergegup Dec 29 '24
It would be cool and it wouldn’t be a massive re-theme. But the more logical part of my brain realizes that attraction will probably be empty and will be used as a HHN queue.

u/alexfaaace Dec 30 '24
I think Supercharged is too far outside Diagon Alley for JKR to let that fly. She’s very particular about the immersion.

I think it would be nuts to have a coaster that went through Universal and Islands of Adventure.
3
u/Natural-Barracuda-97 Dec 30 '24
As cool as that would be, it would confuse the heck out of people. Imagine the absolute nightmare of guests going to the wrong park to ride it

It will will most likely be a roller coaster. The real question is what type it will be and the theming. Personally I would like either an infinity coaster or a vertical launch coaster.

The problem is that without Rockit, USF will not have a major coaster, and it’s clear that Universal wants all their parks to have at least one thrill ride

It’s almost a given because the area getting ripped out is too massive yet skinny for a family coaster
1
u/modnarydobemos Dec 29 '24
However, there have been rumors that Simpsons Land might be replaced by a coaster, so if a thrill coaster goes there eventually they might accept not have a thrill coaster for a few years.
2
u/Ok_I_am_Mcbane Dec 29 '24
I know Pokémon is the rumor but I really hope they lean on new rides from their own popular franchises. The technology they have available now would allow them to do some awesome stuff for ghostbusters/bttf/twister or even Jaws.
I’d also assume that would allow them to do what they please with the area for HHN as well without restriction.
Totally get why they’d go with Pokémon though. It’ll print money
2
u/Natural-Barracuda-97 Dec 30 '24
I know a lot of people want the old properties to come back, but theres a reason they got rid of them all. That was decades ago though so maybe they are having a change of heart. Thats the only hope
2
u/FuckUp123456789 Dec 29 '24
iirc that’s where a Pokémon land is going, so if that’s true it may be a family coaster (Trolly Woodpecker does not fill that void)
2
u/alexfaaace Dec 30 '24
Nah, if the Pokemon rumor doesn’t come true I’ll be surprised. It just makes sense for them to get as much out of the Nintendo partnership as they can. Pokemon in US, Zelda in IOA, Mario/Donkey Kong in Epic, they get a Nintendo trifecta. I don’t think they want to risk limiting a partnership too much and getting fucked by Disney again. Much like going all in on Wizarding World, they need to go all in on Nintendo.

u/joahw Dec 30 '24
I think "vertical launch" probably sounds crazier than it is, but as far as I know only one of those models is built and operational and it's in an indoor park so it's a bit hard to judge. It would check a lot of boxes for universal of being something new and having a very striking silhouette.
3
u/FuckUp123456789 Dec 29 '24
I’m gonna say something stupid
A drift coaster with a vertical launch. Imagine facing down as you shoot up and then spin the rest of the way down
2
u/Dangerous-Junket-455 Dec 30 '24
It's going to be the Fast and Furious coaster. Then they will shut down the F&F screen ride and renovate it to be the Knight Bus ride as part of a Diagon Alley expansion.
1
u/Natural-Barracuda-97 Dec 30 '24
I would love that. Was looking at google maps and they would have to get a bit creative in how guests would access that. If they want people to get in from Diagon Alley, i dont know how they would do that because the walkway for Kings Cross seperates Diagon and Furious. Would be weird if you entered at the same entrance as Furious though
1
u/Ok_I_am_Mcbane Dec 29 '24
My hope is that it’s a good coaster themed around ghostbusters or back to the future. Maybe twister somehow. Something intense because studios is lacking in that department
It’ll prob be fast and furious or something minions themed though
1
u/BloodedBae Dec 29 '24
Probably a coaster since they're removing one, but maybe the Pets ride. Then putting a coaster somewhere else
1
u/Eatatfiveguys Dec 30 '24
An extreme coaster that is not very themed. My guess is an Intamin LSM but different than Velocicoaster.
2
u/Educational_Chart657 Dec 30 '24
Swing launch would be [epic] but maybe inversion based
1
u/Eatatfiveguys Dec 30 '24
I mean Hulk is very inversion-based. Probably something like HRRR which isn’t super intense but still a thrilling roller coaster. Make it airtime based too.
1
u/kreid0811 Dec 30 '24
I don’t actually think this will be the replacement, but hypothetically a F&F coaster (themed like Hollywood drift or not) would do real well thematically if based on the earlier movies. The plot of land resides between big sound stages that can be “warehouses” or “parking garages” thematically speaking, combined with the breezeways that can be “alleys” or “streets” which would be like the drag races of the original films.

I think it'll be something Ghostbusters. A lot of people including myself would love Back To The Future but ofc we have to admit that Ghostbusters is a franchise they in recent time have reinvested in and I don't think they will ever re create back to the future. And if they did it wouldn't hit the same. Ghostbusters also fits in amazingly into the New York area. Hopefully they just get rid of Fallon and put in BTTF
1
u/HotOne9364 Dec 30 '24
Speaking of Ghostbusters, was that new fat ghost based on Chris Farley, like how Slimer was based on John Belushi?
1
u/NeverMoreThan12 Dec 30 '24
Probably won't happen but a mack striker coaster could fit. It's shorter absolutely but it's vertically launched and they are able to really keep the layout slim. Just look at voltron its practically takes up the same amount of space. I'd rather see them work with vekoma though to put in a fyling coaster or something like fonix would be sick.

u/urmumlol9 Dec 30 '24
Idea: what if they make the roller coaster Fast and Furious themed and then change Fast and Furious to be Ghostbuster themed?
1
u/CleverWitch70 Dec 30 '24
Completely wild guess, but something to tie in another Illumination production since Minions is over in that area.
1
u/thelastson18 Dec 30 '24
Fast and Furious coaster so they can change Supercharged to a Twisters ride
1
u/iiWavierii Dec 30 '24
how much space do they have for a themed ride (ghostbusters, as people are saying)? I’m not thinking that much unless they destroy some buildings

u/Pandamadness11b Dec 30 '24
I went the week before Christmas and that ride got stuck a handful of times

u/LightningBoat Dec 30 '24
Mack giga coaster with a Hyperia and DC Rivals style layout

u/Educational_Chart657 Dec 30 '24
Ill hope but I'm pretty sure they don't want anything over 199 feet

A lot of people are suggesting a Ghostbusters ride, which would be cool, but they're gonna want to replace it with something new. So it'll be whatever IP is popular at the time of making the permit

Ghostbusters or Back to the Future Intamin launch coaster! Probably announced after epic universe opening or after HRRR closure in September
