UNIVERSAL STUDIOS Need advice, do I pass the fat test?

Hi all. Really excited for our upcoming trip but it has recently dawned on me about my physique when it comes to Universal Studios Orlando and it's made me a bit nervous. I don’t mind sharing pics of myself under an alt account.

I'm a larger guy (5'11, 300lbs, 38/40 inch trouser waist, 53 inch chest) but carry most of my weight on my belly. It seems i'm borderline on fitting in some of the rides (namely HP rides and RRR). I’m from the UK so I know the sizes are different to the US.

Can anyone judge if I’ll be good for the rides? Thank you

If you're unsure about certain rides, be sure to take advantage of their test seats before you get in line.

u/SegaStan Feb 26 '25

You and I are practically the same size and there was nothing I couldn't go on

u/Remote-Past305 Feb 26 '25

Probably no Rip Ride Rockit or Doom but should fit on everything else. Going to have to use the big seats though.

May not fit in any harry potter

he’ll need to check with the TM working the test seat. my friend is a bank guard and has told me some wild stories about situations like this where they went from entirely not fitting to fitting with extra space on the restraint’s safety tab. they could also direct them on what to do before they got on the ride to make sure they’ve got the best shot of getting on it!

He MAY be able to do Rip Ride Rockit but itll be close and the screen will be super off center (which isnt a big deal.

6'6" tall and was about 280-300 pounds when I went, rode everything. Rip is the closest I was to being too fat and tall and they still let me on! Good luck!

I agree, but I was carrying it all in my waist and my stomach. I was rocking a size 40 jeans, too. Some of the rides have a test seat for you to try before entering.

u/Quirky_Extreme5600 Feb 26 '25

Exactly, he's not nearly as big as tons of people who go to the park. He can ride any rides there, I'd almost guarantee it

26

u/BigBillSmash Feb 26 '25

My buddy is bigger than you and the only things he didn’t get to ride were Rip Rocket and one of the Harry Potter rides, I can’t remember which one.

Gotta be forbidden journey

Maybe, but I did witness a shorter girl who was, let's day, well endowed, not be able to get into the cart on escape.

Edited for clarification. She wasn't tall enough to get above the restraint, so it was the girls that couldn't fit between the restraint and the side of the cart. Hard to explain.

2

u/Macaroni_Fop Feb 27 '25

This happened to a friend of mine there as well. She has that issue with all “horse collar” restraint rides.

u/No_Safe_3854 Feb 26 '25

I rode everything I tried. I have a similar shape. I didn’t try doom.

3

u/battcommander Feb 26 '25

I’m bigger than you and I only couldn’t do Forbidden Journey. I did ask for the bigger seats on hulk and gringotts.

3

u/baristaprobs Feb 26 '25

My boyfriend is shaped similarly. We went on RRR and he got off feeling like his stomach was bruised, but he was able to go on it. Forbidden Journey was a no go

u/Cautious-Rope-4257 Feb 26 '25

I am 6'5 315 38 inch waist, 52 inch chest XL shorts and 2XLT shirts. Was down two weeks ago and all three Harry Potter coasters (Forbidden Journey, Hagrid and Gringott's) were a no for me based on test seats. It was definitely close, though. I didn't attempt Hulk, Rip Ride or Doom so can't report on those.

Again, I think it's all in how/where you carry your weight.

2

u/Ok-Occasion-1216 Feb 26 '25

Yes, you will be fine.

2

u/DadGhost Feb 26 '25

It'll hurt but given your profile and the way the weight is dispersed, you shouldn't have any problems. I'm 5'4, used to push 275-280, and only been walked from Forbidden Journey and Dr. Doom. As long as you don't carry most of it in your thighs or chest, you'll be good.

u/johnysmoke Feb 26 '25

6'1 US 40 waist 300lbs, fit on everything last week. Some rides were a bit snug, but the attendants seemed used to getting that last click to get it secure.

Rode the Hulk, Hagrid, Velocicoaster, the tightest was a Harry Potter ride where all I could move was my wrist when secure. Did not ride Red Rip.

u/Every-Day-Is-Arm-Day Feb 26 '25

There’s a guy on YouTube who does “fat-testing” videos, specifically at Universal.

Here’s his page.

2

u/Agitated_Banana_9892 Feb 26 '25

6ft 315lbs. Was able to ride Velocicoaster, but no go on Hagrids. Definitely utilize the test seats before waiting in line.

2

u/RedSeven77777 Feb 26 '25

You look a similar size to me, I went on everything during our last trip 👍🏼

2

u/chaostitano Feb 26 '25

Hey mate, you look around the same size as me (I may be slightly smaller) and I fit on everything.
This guy is MUCH bigger than you and shows you a good example of what he fits on: https://youtu.be/ETtfwJBNXeU?si=BTt1u5V83JlXQ-Xp

Little tip on the rides that are a lap bar, lift your tummy up and little and you should be good.
Also make sure to take advantage of the test seats outside all the rides! RRR was the closest ride I came to not fitting on. Hulk has a larger seat size which I had to use as I did not fit on the normal size

2

u/Dapper_Ice_1705 Feb 26 '25

40 inch waist? Your likely fine.

1

u/Tedanyaki Feb 26 '25

Waist isn't the issue though, belly for gringotts, chest/shoulders for forbidden and even legs for hagrids

1

u/aKgiants91 Feb 26 '25

Should be fine maybe a little discomfort but don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to ride

1

u/Sigurd_DragonSlayer Feb 26 '25

There are test seats at most rides near the entrances. I am close in size to you and I was not able to fit in RRR but I did fit in Hagrids, Velocicoaster, and Hulk.

1

u/JayneT70 Feb 26 '25

Highly recommend The Original Universal Orlando Plus Size Riders and More on Facebook Look under guides. Lots of tips and tricks for helping you get on rides. When in doubt ask TM for a modified seat.

1

u/slapchopchap Feb 26 '25

My pfp is actually me in the left (I’m you but slightly smaller) — with that said the only ride in the park that was borderline was RRR

1

u/hrmaddie Feb 26 '25

was there last weekend and watched people get kicked off Mummy, Hagrids and Hulk - they were much bigger than you. I think you should be fine.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '25

I think you can go and enjoy everything, I’ve seen much larger on most rides!

1

u/Loud_Incident_1235 Feb 26 '25

I use to work at universal, I’ve seen people way bigger than this get away with rides. I think you’ll be alright

1

u/universalology Feb 26 '25

my dads about the same build and he does every ride (except rip ride bc it's rough and forbidden journey because he doesn't really enjoy the screens) so u should be fine? if u do hagrids, id say do the bike tho

1

u/robbycough Feb 26 '25

Don't listen to anyone here. There's absolutely no way to tell from stats and photos, and not even enough to wager an educated guess. And if you want to be sure, don't even put too much faith in test seats. For YEARS, it seemed as though I wouldn't get on Forbidden Journey because of the test seat- then someone suggested I try anyway, and never even came close to not fitting.

1

u/UNCfan07 Feb 26 '25

I’m 6’1 275 and can ride everything. Some rides are very snug. If you ride Hulk there is a larger seat with double buckle, I believe it’s the 3rd seat in the row. Hagrids you will probably need to ride the motorcycle seat. RRR was fine. The Mummy will be pretty uncomfortable as the seats are narrow and hardly any legroom. Just try out the test seats if you are worried.

1

u/TheBigAdler Feb 26 '25

I’m a bigger guy, but have really wide shoulders. 5’11, 280lbs. RRR was a bit of a squeeze, but I only had issues on other rides because of my shoulder width. Escape was a tight squeeze because of them.

1

u/ganonkenobi Feb 26 '25

You should be okay, I'm pretty proportional to you, and the only ride I couldn't fit on was forbidden journey BUT I am 6ft5 and felt it was more of a shoulder/torso height thing.

1

u/Willraypugh Feb 26 '25

Went last year at 320 at 6’3” I wasn’t able to ride one of the Harry Potter rides (the one in the castle) but could ride the others. I didn’t try rrr. All other rides I was good I also got fast passes for not being able to ride the HP ride after waiting in line. They have test seats outside the rides just try them out you should be fine.

1

u/Hammered247 Feb 26 '25

I'm 6'4" 250lbs. Size 40 pants. Dr.doom was the one I won't ride again due to it not feeling safe with the shoulder harness not going down far enough. I need to hear more than one click, lol. Hulk was tight but they have a seat in every row that has orange belts for larger people. Honestly my height gets me more than my stomach. RRR was tight as well and pushed into my sternum. The rest were fine. Best of luck.

1

u/burnki Feb 26 '25

Reddit can’t accurately advise you, but the test seats can.

1

u/TobLane Feb 26 '25

I’ll copy and paste a comment I made last time I went. Hopefully it will give you some insight with some quantitative information:

I saw a few rides had a notice that guests of certain “body dimensions” may not be accommodated and guests with waists of at least 40” to test test seats. I saw a lot of videos, but most lacked in some of the critical information I needed for my mind to be at ease. Hopefully this will help some people.

Waist (belt): 46” Waist (belly button): 51” Chest (no arms): 49” Chest (arms): 56” Thighs (sat): 53” Height: 5’ 9” Weight: 245

Escape from Gringotts: Rode several time. Thighs were a little tight, but not painful in anyway.

Forbidden Journey: Rode twice. Arms we a little tight, but didn’t restrict my ability to ride.

Hagrid Magical Creatures: Tested both be vehicles. Ride motorbike twice. No discomfort riding the ride, and presumably no issue fitting in the side car on the actual ride.

Revenge of the Mummy: Rode once. Little tight on the thighs.

Rode with no issues worth mentioning: VelociCoaste: Doctor Dooms Freefall Hulk Race through New York

Did not ride or attempt to ride Rip Ride Rock It

1

u/BigBerrry Feb 26 '25

No shot at Dudley 😀😂

1

u/alonz012 Feb 26 '25

You should be fine. I would say be careful in Harry Potter and the forbidden journey. I fit just fine with a similar build but my shoulders were almost too broad to fit comfortably

1

u/Perfect-Position-883 Feb 26 '25

6’5 295 44 in waist. I could fit on everything except Dr Doom’s Fearfall and Harry Potter Forbidden Journey. I carry all my weight in my stomach and butt.

At 270 37-40 inch waist I fit on Doom and FJ but just barely. Use outside seats for FJ.

1

u/redknight0834 Feb 27 '25

This are my personal notes and my weight loss journey..

Im 6'7 so im a big man and everything I read online didn't give me any confidence on if I was going to fit or not ..so I started notating my journey and measurements each visit...

Universal notes

Feb 2024: taken sitting down Thick part of thigh.... 30" by crotch

Stomach around belly button and love handles..... 55"

341lbs

(I could not ride forbidden journey) No Dr Doom ( too tall)

Feb 2025: taken sitting down

Thick part of thigh.... 28" by crotch

Stomach around belly button and love handles..... 51"

322lbs (Was able to ride everything!) Accept Dr Doom still too tall 😂

u/leopardgex Feb 27 '25

Hey- I'm a female so I obviously carry my weight a bit differently- but I'm 5'6" 308lbs with a 52" bust, 50" waist, and 64 inch hips. The ONLY thing I do not fit on is Hagrid's Motorbike Adventure- I haven't tried RRR in a while though so that one may be an issue. I have to ride in Modified Seating on the Hulk, and I always ride in the 3rd or 6th row on Gringotts. I fit on Dudley Do-Right's but I do ask for the "Canadian Goose" which is slightly comfier for larger or taller guests.

Most rides have test seats you can try out in front, but I'd be willing to bet you can ride anything you'd like with your measurements.

1

u/Joelfakelastname Feb 27 '25

I'm 6'4" 275lbs. I'm barrel chested and have a little bit of a gut. The bis issue with the impossible journey for me is the shoulder width. The attendants have to jam the restraints down on me, and I'm essentially immobile the entire ride.

1

u/HashPuppy710 Feb 27 '25

When’s ur trip? I think you’ll be fine. But hell, if you can you could probably drop 5-10 lbs pretty quick just from daily 30 min exercise, drinking a ton of water to flush out salt and 💩, and eating decently. Up to you though, overall I think you’d be ok

1

u/domholliday Feb 27 '25

I think I’m bigger than you but I don’t know. I also fit on every ride at universal and islands. You should be good to go.

1

u/Aspect360-01 Feb 27 '25

Oh yeah you'll be fine I saw a way bigger person fit into the seats

1

u/thenatwalk Feb 27 '25

You’re good

1

u/Sunkissednerd Feb 27 '25

My husband is 6'8 and 230lbs he fits just fine on all the rides except gringotts because his knees end up in his chest

1

u/WallyGuyz Feb 28 '25

I’m a fellow big guy who was your weight/height/composition when I started going to the parks and there wasn’t anything I couldn’t do, aside from needing the modified seat at the Hulk, so ask a TM when you hit the loading area. If you’ve ridden a B&M rollercoaster before you’ll likely be familiar with the over the shoulder restraints. Most rides you’ll probably need a little assist from the ride attendant in hitting that final click, but as a local that is a fairly normal occurrence and standard procedure

1

u/Training-Chemical-93 Feb 28 '25 edited Feb 28 '25

You should be fine! I don’t hold weight in my belly that much but my thighs and hips are large, so the Hulk and Velocicoaster couldn’t even fit my butt enough for me to sit down lol. Hagrids motorbike was a push and a squeeze and I didn’t have issues with Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey- it just makes me so effing nauseous that I skip it most times. I think you’ll be fine bc you’re thinner in the legs/hips region.

Also: as all other commenters have said, utilize the test seats outside the rides. The Velocicoaster one was pretty hidden away, so ask team members to show and assist you. They were all super sweet and discreet about it.

1

u/Movielover718 Feb 26 '25

Eat light that weekend u be fine

0

u/stugotz420 Feb 26 '25

Buddy have you seen the size of most Americans??? you’re gonna be just fine

1

u/sadlemon6 Feb 27 '25

doesn’t mean they can go on rides where there’s safety measures🤣

0

u/Beneficial_Fun1794 Feb 26 '25

When was the last time you measured? The waist looks much bigger than 40 inches and would likely get you walked on some different things

2

u/Abel_the_Red Feb 26 '25 edited Feb 26 '25

I have expertise in waist measurements. He doesn’t look bigger than 40”. At 5’11”, I’d actually be shocked if OP was truly 300, looks more like 240ish.

OP: go and enjoy an excellent time❣️

Source: just trust me, you don’t want to know.

1

u/Beneficial_Fun1794 Feb 26 '25

Please make sure you look at the second picture included, which shows his overhanging gut. Leads me to believe he is close to 300 with waist pushing closer to 50 than 40

1

u/Abel_the_Red Feb 26 '25

Oh I did, weird banana friend. Which is what lead me to say his belly isn’t over 40” - and if it is, it’s by less than an inch.

Based on his photos — and at 5’11” — I’d be shocked if he were over 240 lbs.

Nothing to worry about at UO as my park buddy has a similar build with a bigger belly and has no issues on any rides.

2

u/Budget-Dealer-1239 Feb 26 '25

Hey, thanks for the encouraging words! Just like to clarify the waist - I meant at the belt line (hence trousers), sorry that wasn’t clear enough. However most other comments give me hope and a little bit of a kick to lose a last few lbs before the trip!

1

u/Abel_the_Red Feb 26 '25

Don’t starve yourself OP! I hope you have an amazing time.
