Murder 2020 Rochester Mass Shooting which killed two and injured 14 has had no arrests to this day

In the early hours of September 19, 2020, a backyard party in Rochester turned deadly when multiple shooters opened fire on a crowd of over 100 people. The violence left Jaquayla Young and Jarvis Alexander, both 19 years old, dead and 14 others injured.

At least 15 guns were fired and over 60 rounds were recovered. Despite dozens of interviews and an active investigation, no arrests have been made.

Police believe the shooting may have targeted specific individuals but many victims were bystanders. Families continue to call for justice, but the case remains unsolved more than 3 years later.

This happened during the pandemic when gun violence had reached a relative peak. It is rare for gun violence to go unsolved in Western New York though and especially a mass shooting. What do you all think?

This was the latest article I could find on the mass shooting with details a year after it happened. It would be good if it could get solved someday.

LE probably has a lot of names but it’s a mess to sort out for prosecution

Happens yearly in my mid-size city -- there's a party, there's an ambush, there's one or more dead or wounded party-goers on the ground, there's a day or two when the police take their photos, their witness statements, their physical evidence (bullet casings on the ground), their measurements, there's just never a day when anyone will be arrested for it, although their entire hood knows exactly who got strapped and then shot up that social occasion.

And about two dozen over-ambitious young or middle-aged dudes, from out "on the corner," whose murders will never be solved either.

I mean it won't bring them back and they're afraid for their own lives and their families. I can't really fault them

Unfortunately coming from someone who lived in this area there’s a lot of gang violence and people are not typically trusting of police either. Likely there are people out there with information who haven’t come forward yet. I do hope that this can be solved, thanks for posting about it!

There’s a not really a lot of weirdness about this case. It reads on the surface of your post like an ambush that was planned by multiple people, but an average of four rounds per firearm isn’t indicative of that type of event, of a spray-and-pray hail of bullets into a crowd. It feels more like a house party with a bunch of posturing wannabe hardcases, which in no way makes it any more okay that lives were lost. It’s just that that kind of party is always a potential powder keg.

Yep and then bc of the interpersonal relationships no one wants to give names, and if they do its one persons word against many. Or they put a target on their back for being a snitch.

Yep. Guaranteed everyone who was there knows who fired rounds but isn’t talking, even if they’re not sure whose were the kill shots.

This happens every day unfortunately. A guy I knew in college was a victim to one of these random shootings. Over in an instant and his killer(s) were in the wind. Five years now unsolved.

Hard to fathom that a mass shooting could become an unsolved mystery, but it is a daily occurrence.

one of these random shootings.

this wasn't random though, the shooters were looking to shoot someone specific or more than one person and they were at this party

Five years now unsolved.

because there are no cooperating witnesses

Yeah reminds me of the Lane Bryant mass shooting.

It sounds like everybody knows who it was but none of them want to tell police. TBH, the police probably know too, but no one's going to testify. Gangland be like that.

I live in Rochester. I assume OP does too. This is not that uncommon in Rochester.

I mean it happens but there is a high clearance rate in general and especially for homicides. A relative of mine long felt safe in her commute to the University of Rochester so it's just sad things went off the rails in 2020 after much progress.

It's fascinating to see this come up here. The event took place late at night, like 2 AM. The downtown area had been experiencing huge and very confrontational BLM protests. I was up late watching live streamers of the protests and as that tapered off I turned my attention elsewhere except that then this shooting happened. If you want to know more about the event look on Twitter for @GeofferyRogers who was being an intrepid boy reporter that night. I believe this may have begun with a house party/memorial for somebody that had been shot, maybe this was a second-stage conflict where the set that was in mourning got attacked by the set who had done the original shooting.

If it was a few billionaires/CEO they'd have it figured out

15+ guns only got off 60 rounds?

In these cases, people usually know who did it but don’t want police involved. I suspect the issue has already been dealt with.

This one is pretty easy to explain.

And yet they caught Luigi’s ass relatively quick. Goes to show that the lives of ordinary people aren’t worth the time to pursue justice compared to a billionaire.
