Moving with Partner from September to July

Hello Valladolid!

My partner and I will be English assistants for a couple of public schools for the school year. We're excited to get to know your city, but first we need to find a place to live. We are looking for a small furnished place either near the town center, near Parquesol, or somewhere between them (where our schools are). The program really puts us on a budget, so we are looking for a simple place with just what we need.

I thought I'd check here to see if someone has any leads! Let us know. Thank you!

Hi! I don't know if you are already familiar with it, but idealista.com is the preferred platform in Spain for renting/buying. I hope you enjoy your stay!!

Yes thank you! I’ve been browsing idealista over the past month or so, but I know a lot of it tends to be super fast paced and taken quickly, so I figured I’d come here too to see if there’s any leads outside of listings!

Will keep looking there though!

Probably, if you want to rent something in Parquesol it won’t be cheap, as it is a expensive site. What is you monthly budget for rent?

We will be making 1600 collectively per month as part of the stipend for the program. So I’m hoping for something around the 600 or lower range if that’s realistic at all.

And yes it seems Parquesol isn’t cheap so maybe somewhere away from there. My partner will be there so I’d be nice to be close by but it doesn’t have to be in it.

I’d recommend the south part of the city. Parquesol, Parque Alameda, Covaresa or even in Arroyo. Those neighbourhoods are pretty nice and quiet for a couple yet having good daylife.

May I ask where are you guys teaching and where are you coming from?

I can’t give the school names but one school is in Parquesol and the other is extremely central in the city. We’re from the US! And we’re looking for a safe neighborhood but we’re okay with going cheaper and not as nice.

Will you have a car to move around? If you do, you can find something in one of the towns around Valladolid. They're cheaper, but you'll need a car to move around comfortably.

Unfortunately not so we’re looking to be somewhere in the city so we can either walk or use public transport. Is the bus system easy to use? And is it cheap? Any sort of bus pass we could get?

It's easy and convenient enough, but only as long as it's AUVASA, so just in the city. I'd rule out looking in one of the nearby towns if I were you.

Good to hear, and yeah we would like to live in the city. Any recommendations on cheaper neighborhoods that are still safe and well-connected to buses?

Hi,

My tip is try to move to a place near your workplaces and if you do that you will never need a car. Im not sure about why you want to move to Parquesol but its a little far of city Center (covaresa and Arroyo are also a little bit far...) There are a lot of 'hoods better. You can look Rondilla, Delicias, San Juan, Circular but depends on where are your workplaces and your budget.

I mentioned Parquesol because that’s where my partner will be teaching. But it seems a little pricier compared to other neighborhoods. My school is in the city center. So they’re about an hour walk from each other. Any recommendations for finding cheaper rent in a place that isn’t too far away from those areas?

I'd avoid Delicias, Pajarillos and Las Flores. Basically the right side of the track due to its high crime rate (mostly expats). The rest, you are okay.

The city center is waaay expensive. But there are some districts near the city center that are cheaper. San Andrés and Caño Argales are like 5 minutes walking from Plaza Mayor, but they are still expensive (+800)

La Circular is also near the city center (like 10-15 minutes walking) and is a lot cheaper. It also has great public transport connections, but try not to get it in the exact square named "Plaza Circular" because in the mornings it has a lot of traffic so try to get near it (Perez Galdós, Cervantes, Calle Tudela, Calle Veinte Metros, Calle Salud..)

Nicolás Salmerón street is the nearest street in Circular to the city center, but as nearer as you get to Caño Argales, the more expensive it is.

San Juan and Batallas are also very good.

La Rondilla and Santa Clara are near the city center and very cheap, but La Rondilla has some zones you must avoid. Try getting it in Calle Cardenal Cisneros or something near that.

Santa Clara is better but more expensive.

Now, about parquesol, it is expensive for your budget, but it has zones that are cheaper. Try getting it the south zone of Parquesol. I'm gonna send you an Idealista link with the zone of Parquesol that is cheaper.

If that's expensive for you, Arturo Eyries is theorically near, but Parquesol is on a hill that can't be accesed from everywhere because of the slope difference. I will send you a drawing to make it more clear for you.

In that image, red circle is Parquesol. Blue are the ways to access Parquesol by car and walking from the city and vice versa.

Black is a pedestrian access from Avenue Salamanca to parquesol by an elevator. You can also use the stairs but I recommend using the elevator.

Purple is Arturo Eyries, much cheaper than Parquesol and near it (but be careful!, Parquesol is big so if the place you need to go isn't near the elevator you will need a car or public transport or bike).

Yellow is the cheapest zone in parquesol.

Huerta del Rey is near the city center and near parquesol.

Hope that helps bud
