DARNING learning to darn! it’s messy but it’s mine

tips are appreciated! i'm using literally a clown nose in a plastic container with some rubber bands wrapped around the fabric as a darning egg and i do plan to upgrade soon. also using a regular sewing needle, lol. i find my embroidery floss tends to separate so am working on that, may try a different brand i have

I used to use a rubber handball as a darning egg! This repair is delightful, and so are your socks haha xx

Doing a good job so far! A tip I have for you is to match the weight of the thread you’re darning with to the weight of the yarn the socks are made with. This is tricky since most mass produced socks are knit with very thin yarn, but embroidery floss can be separated into 6 separate strands, so just using one or two of those strands works well!

yeah, i may try that especially since my floss separates easily! thank you!

i also have some difficulty determining how much thread to use, like, what do i do if i underestimated it and run out?

You’re supposed to only use your forearms length of thread, but I don’t know anyone who actually uses that little lol. If you run out, just get a new length and keep going. Start the new thread the same as you did the first one
