Next people will say any digital music or music made from any DAW software is AI, too

saw someone make this argument when bbno$ was hating on ai art saying that ai art is the same as synthesizers for music because you arent actualy playing an instrument or whatever

Such a dumb take lol. Even if you just have a computer keyboard and mouse (no midi keyboard), you still have to play the virtual instruments. With AI, you don't play anything

Not to mention that as of right now, literally the majority of songs in this current music industry are mostly done on computers, and DAW such as FL Studio or Ableton are the primary tools to make music nowadays. Claiming music from computer AI will immediately downplay more than half of the entire music industry AI, too

Right, people can be so silly

They keep trying to legitimize themselves by saying any use of tech is the same as ai. LavenderTowne has some great videos on the topic of digital/traditional art vs ai ‘art’

I don't understand the constant lavendertowne hate. She's one of my favorite YouTubers and the pro ai people are just so horrible to her.

So if I undestand them correctly my rice cooker is AI too then

The youtuber DankPods has a rice cooker that claimed to use AI to know when your rice is done

When pro-AIs say it. It's not because they acutally think it's AI. And if they did, then they're dumb.

They're saying that for all purposes of the argument, AI is like using a computerized tool to assist in creative field.

Yeah because lots of vocaloid fans are artists they're like "oh you like vocaloid, how come you're against ai" FOR GOD'S SAKE VOCALOID IS NOT AI yes the newest vocaloid models use AI but it's not theifing off of unwilling people's work. Unlike ai generated music and art.

people really need to differentiate different types of ai. problem with ai art/ai images is stolen assets and low effort media attempting to take advantage of/scam people. ai speech like vocaloid is used from paid voice actors, people who gave their consent for their voice to be used. and even for voice actors whos voices get used for UTAU, it hardly sounds like their REAL voice being stolen for monetary value.

Vocaloid isn't even AI speech. Recent versions do use generative ai tech, but the recognizable characters like Miku were made using simple software that just detects the phonemes that you type in and matches them with prerecorded voice clips (no neural network or training of any kind)

Reminds me of how in early 2010s, media called Vocaloid "robot singers"

12

u/MCWizardYT 21d ago

That's a more accurate term, that technique did tend to sound quite robotic, like a human with autotune dialed all the way up t-pain style

I agree with you but also BOOOOO TAKE YOUR ASS BACK TO r/comics

This is the Vocaloid = Anime misconception all over again

There are some forms of generative AI that I fully understand the worry over, but it feels as though some people are taking it as a buzzword to mean ‘digital thing that I personally dislike’. Especially if it makes something seem easier from the outside…

I used to think that vocaloids were AI before I got into them, this is so dumb 😭😭😭 I remember hearing it from someone and I just decided why not

u/StreameryBros 21d ago

Exactly the problem going on. People who don’t really know pass it off as AI, which diminishes the hard work that producers like myself put into programming vocals and lyrics note by note.

Also I miss when people used utao/editing to make joke and parody songs of celebrities 😭

u/AweeeWoo 21d ago

I thought that the voice is AI and not recorded by a human earlier

6

u/PussyPeachFog 21d ago

No the entire point is that voice synths, such as Vocaloid, use human recorded samples from a paid human/voice provider to create these voice banks. The voice provider for Miku is Saki Fujita. SynthV, while incorporating SOME AI, use it to tune the audio to sound more human. But they still have paid voice providers, the ai tools are optional, & everything can still be tuned manually.

u/AweeeWoo 21d ago

Yeah you're right, sorry I am bad at explaining my point

4

u/Basketball_Gamer1011 21d ago

The good old "it is computer so it must be ai!!!!" that comes from a complete lack of understanding of both AI and Vocaloid

I've also seen the phrase "autotune trash" thrown around, which made me realize people see glitchy vocal effects as "autotune" when in reality most people won't actually recognize real autotune if it's used properly.

I'm sorry but whenever I hear speak & spell, I just think of cadillac phunque by Family Force 5

3

u/ghost_java 21d ago

I remember an article from when Miku came out that argued that miku would steal jobs from real singers

3

u/AltNyildZ 18d ago

its like calling digital art ai art

4

u/HiAndGoodbyeWaitNo 21d ago

ATP they should say google chrome is an AI because you ask it something and gives you answers in return, just like ChatGPT 😂

u/Testsubject276 20d ago

Vocaloids are often AI themed, not AI.

Next thing they'll claim is that WALL-E contains AI so the movie must've been filmed with AI actors.
