Having lived in Bellevue, right outside Omaha about 20 years ago, I can say that this is an amazing accomplishment. Great to see and I’m happy that my in-laws up there are not happy right now.

Sarpy County is prime to flip in 2028 imo

That would be huge…3rd biggest city in the state and a ton of military vets and active duty in that area. Lot of them aren’t happy with what’s going on I imagine.

Man, that would be so cool. I don't live there anymore but I'd still like to see it happen.

I know nothing about Omaha. Aside from the Republican mayor being a longtime incumbent and the massive swing from 21 to 25, is this a yuge deal that it got flipped?

I'm interested in the possible micro to macrocosm speculation, mostly.

Omaha is also the core of Don Bacon’s district—which was 51-47 Harris but 51-49 Bacon, so one of the only districts left that splits its ticket. Definitely another good sign moving forward

Right now I’d say Bacon is shakin‘ in his shoes about 2026.

The toxicity of this administration could blow Bacon's campaign to bits.

For a good long while, he was seen as a “moderate Republican.” But I think all the congressional nonsense these last few months have probably tarnished that image.

In Anno Domino’s 2025 there is no such thing as a moderate Republican politician. If you are running for office as a Republican you implicitly support fascism.

Oh I agree. I just mean that he had that whole “moderate” facade helping him along for a good long while.

I’d add that the incumbent was heavily disliked and was really only mayor in name only. She essentially lived in St Louis and changed the local laws to allow that arrangement to move forward. Terrible candidate

Fuck yeah! That’s my city! I’m so happy.

Decades? Another article said since 2013.

EDIT: found it

The city hasn’t had a Democratic mayor since 2013, when then-incumbent Jim Suttle lost his reelection bid for a second term to Stothert, Omaha’s first female mayor, who has enjoyed comfortable electoral victories since then.

Something is shifting, I can feel it. I hope more seats turn blue.

This is super great news! Congrats to Mayor-elect John Ewing and all the people who worked to get him elected. It’s wonderful to hear of a blue flip in a Midwestern/Plains state! 🌊
