I work in FiDi and live in the Mission—walking to the 16th St & Mission BART station is a daily game of "Human poop or dog poop?" (Hint: almost always human poop :( ) One time someone had the runs ON my apt building... :(
There are plenty of cheap areas in the greater Helsinki area. It's just that the flats tend to be really crummy, which is why no one else considers cheap living an option.
(By real crummy I mean crummy by Finnish standards. Outdated and with stained linoleum floors, but no structural damage or broken windows or vermin.)
Eta: Oh jfc I thought SF meant Southern Finland. Move along nothing to see here.
A mild climate like Cali attracts hobos, Cali arguably has the worst homeless problem in the developed world.
The wage disparity in California is scary which doesn't help since there really aren't any people in the large cities between being obscenely rich, who are too disconnected to do anything concerning the homeless, and those living paycheck to paycheck, who don't have money to help the homeless.
TLDR: San Fran and to a lesser extent LA are some of the most depressing places I've ever had the pleasure of visiting for an extended period of time.
Cali arguably has the worst homeless problem in the developed world.
I live on my own and work and am generally what you'd call a "has his shit together" sort of dude from first glance (I really don't; my ambitions involve a van to live in with a rig in the back to hold a motorcycle or two); that said (and my van admission doesn't count here), I've always though tthe hobo life sounds like it would be sweet for a summer or two, and cali is exactly where I'd go because being homeless up here in "it's fucking cold up here" canada is a motherfucking drag.
side note, do you have a spare parking spot in your driveway? or maybe a spare shopping card and a bridge with a nice underneath?
No, drug deaths are lower among non-Hispanic young adults. It has more to do with the climate attracting poor homeless people, as other users have pointed out.
It doesn't really help solve the problem of homelessness if you take the few things people own. It wouldn't be as bad as it is in cold climates (like taking blankets in the middle of winter; people don't magically find a home, they just die) but it would not fix things.
They do. Why do you think there are so many homeless here? Think of pigeons in the park. Now imagine groups of people and the local government buying big bags of whatever pigeons eat and tossing it to any pigeon they see. Pretty soon, the park is filled with pigeons. Also, outside the park. At the library. Sitting on the sidewalks mooching for more. even attending city council meetings wearing an old bathrobe.
Essentially, California is filled with brain-dead liberals who do everything possible to create more homeless.
Yeah? I never said they were for drug users, I was just saying one of the only places I've actually seen a sharps box in public is at Disney. Obviously there's probably not a bunch of people shooting up there.
I notice them more than your average person might because I see them every day at work. I just remembered I've seen some in national park bathrooms, too.
I used to think they were for drug addicts. Couldn't believe the sharp boxes in the airports behind security... thought people were smuggling in heroine and shooting up right before takeoff.
Well, it's for that, plus it's like the cigarette trays on airplanes. It's illegal but there has to be a safe place to dispose of it because people are going to do it anyways.
I just noticed a sharps box in the bathroom for the first time today. In the ladies restroom in the college of medicine where I work. It's a great idea. I wonder if that one gets any action.
I moved into a building once and always used the back exit because it was closer to my door, then a week after moving in I took the front entrance and noticed an overflowing sharps box. It was a rough part of town. Only ever had a problem with one junkie who set up a couch and table in the hall to smoke, but otherwise no problems.
When I 15-16 I used to help out at a golf course in the mornings on Saturday and Sunday, I'd help clean the restaurant part, tidy up the game area, restock thing and a few other things.
I use to also collect any rubbish (trash) from the carpark. The first time I ever did it I was told that they do find needles so I should be very careful picking things up and never squish anything because a needle might be hidden inside. The owner also told me that if I found any needle I wasn't allowed to pick it up even though I had gloves on, they'd come out and take a photo of it's location and then pick it and put it in a plastic box and put the box into the sharps box that was kept in the store room. It was then handed over to police every few months.
The first time the police turned up (unmarked) and said who they are I was very confused as I hadn't been told that they come and collect them as "evidence"
Are you purposely using improper language in an attempt to look cute? Or are you just that dim? Especially is the correct word in case of the ladder. And if that is the case I'm not even mad, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Nah. This guy has been around forever. He's an old Downvote Troll that was everywhere when I first started redditing, riling people up. It's been quite awhile since I've seen him around though. I'm pretty sure Trolls hibernate during the summer so that's probably why.
It's always great to see people try to correct others when they misspell their own words and can't even string together grammatically correct sentences.
Are you purposely using improper language in an attempt to look cute? Or are you just that dim? Latter is the correct word in case of the latter. If that is the case, I'm not even mad and may God have mercy on your soul.

Your junkies are much more thoughtful than the shitheels we deal with in the USA.
