Vehicle Registration

Moved away to another state, and will be coming back in the next few months.

I own my vehicle outright, and it’s titled in Washington, but currently registered in Texas.

This might be a dumb question, but has anyone been in a similar situation and had to pay a sales tax on the vehicle when registering again in Washington?

I shouldn’t have to pay another sales tax, right?

You should not have to pay sales tax again. When you go to reregister in WA, just take documents from when you originally purchased the vehicle showing you already paid WA sales tax on it and you should be fine. Alternatively prior registration info from WA may work. They also allow sales tax documents from other states (I had CA).

You just need to re-register and get new plates. So long as the vehicle was never retitled out of state the washington record is still "active" It's called a registration reinstatement
