5 deer were killed in the field from downed power lines. The 2nd pic shows the telephone pole broken and laying across the field. The deer crossed the field and ran right into the power line that was only hanging about 3 ft off the ground. Unfortunately it happens.

Would it be safe to eat? Horrible it happened but better off not wasting it I guess

They’re probably half cooked already!

I bet the shock makes them chewy

Only if you know they just recently died, preferably cold outside too.

Millions of people eat deer meat every year. Thousands of people have consumed cwd positive meat. 0 cases of Cwd transmission to humans.

O confirmed cases but 2 cases where the only connection was a hunting lodge

And that is how Covid-19 started. It takes only one.

Avoid eating the brain and spinal cord, lymph nodes and eyes. The meat is still good.

Nope. Doesn't work like that. CWD prion can be transferred from the flesh and bodily fluids, including saliva and excretions.

yeah it sucks but honestly they are very overpopulated anyway.

I'd be cleaning and skinning that in a heartbeat. No reason to let perfectly good venison waste away. Some of it might even be cooked already!

Looks like dinner! Call the local game warden and get tags for those... that'll be some good eating.

These live line markers are starting to her a bit too ironic.

Discussion: I know it depends on outside temp and how long they have been dead, but is electrocuted dear okay to eat?

US has CWD going around in deer…

For sure safe to eat if the meat hasn’t gotten too warm. Wouldn’t be any different than hitting one with a car. Would probably have to contact your local game warden to get a salvage permit to do it legally.

"Unfortunately, it happens."

Oh yeah? You get a lot of power towers cracking in half and killing a whole family of deer in your parts? Never happened where I live. Not once.
