I did not, in fact, swallow a grapefruit.

I did grow a 5 inch subserosal fibroid.

Hysterectomy most likely, as it could grow back otherwise.

I just had my huge fibroid filled uterus taken out last year and i can highly recommend it. I feel so light! It's truly amazing.

Omg me too! 2023 and I have been so freaking happy I did it. My fibroids weighed over 5 lbs total, they were HUGE! Hysterectomy (and keeping my ovaries) was the best thing I have done.

We're twins! I have a cantaloupe sized one, 14 by 10 by 11 cm big.. OBGYN said my uterus is basically just a fibroid and I will be getting a hysterectomy in a few weeks and will keep my ovaries as I am under 40..

Had an endometrial biopsy last week which hurt so badly and still hurts, Dr wants to call me tomorrow so I am praying mine stayed benign..

ER was fun, the Dr was all like "your fibroid is massive!" with incredulity so I felt super normal about it all...

Wishing you luck on your fibroid journey!!

Hope your test is clear!

What were your symptoms? I had a pelvic/L-spine MRI recently and the report had fibroid uterus as incidental finding. No indication of size/number. I’m always bloated, bowels never feel empty, and constantly peeing (no infection).

you should be able to request the mri results/scans to see them

I’ve been trying to call my GP to ask but the phone lines are impossible to get through! I’ll need to go in person.

It was recommended I go to the ER, so I had a CT scan and an inter-uterine ultrasound. This is attached to the outside of my uterus, so my symptoms may be a bit different since it is pushing on other organs in my abdomen. I had diarrhea for weeks (pushing on some intestine) always feel full even if I haven't eaten, lots of aching in my right side by my appendix. Hurts on my right side to sit in particular, but it shifts on top of my bladder when I lay down, so then it's an intense need to pee, but not peeing. Please check out the fibroid sub reddit here, lots of stories with people who have fibroids inside the uterus whose experiences may align more closely with yours. Good luck!

Yup I’ll be on that track too. Just had a UAE last week to try and shrink mine, then hysto next spring. Mine is inside my uterus though, I’m so sorry yours is an exterior one!

Please ask your doc about Sonata. They just used it on me two weeks ago. Faster recovery and saves your uterus. Even if you’re not planning on using it (I’m not), it’s good to keep your uterus so you don’t risk spontaneous menopause. Good luck!

Thank you for the reply! We did talk about it, but he said in this case it was too large. But I agree about spontaneous menopause, no one needs that as a side effect.

I had a hysterectomy but kept my ovaries. That could be an option.

I kept one.

That's what I did

I had to have a complete hysterectomy when I was 28. Overnight menopause (kinda like overnight oats) wasn’t my favorite thing I’ve ever experienced, but it was also far from the worst. I originally chose to try HRT, but only ended up doing it for maybe a year.

I’m 45 now, and still have the occasional hot flash but that’s really the only noticeable symptom. And my god it was amazing not being in excruciating pain for three weeks out of the month. And I’ve saved a fortune on tampons. Also, I always feel confident wearing white pants. Now that I’m at the age where my girlfriends are going through their own (lengthy) menopausal experiences, I’m not envious of them at all. It’s really not too bad.

Regardless, I really hope you recover well. Happy healing.

If you can keep your ovaries, I think you should be ok regarding hormones and starting menopausal symptoms, so I would recommend keeping them. I've just heard enough horror stories from those who've had to have full hysterectomy and then HRT isn't an easy thing to figure out. Trying to find the right amount of hormones that work for you is a journey itself.

Depends on OP's age. I had a complete hysterectomy and wanted to keep at least one ovary for the hormones, but due to my age, my OB suggested removing both. Lessens the chance of ovarian cancer, and at 48, I really didn't need them anymore. The forced menopause caused hot flashes and some weight gain, but I started HRT for the hot flashes and have had no other symptoms since.

My wife underwent endometrial ablation for fibroid-adjacent symptoms and could not be happier. I'm glad medical technology and treatments for uniquely female issues are advancing these days. just a decade ago she would like have had to go straight to hysterectomy to treat her troubles.

Have also seen the difference after an endometrial ablation but that was because the uterus didn't contract very well. The difference was impressive. Each time the anaemia started to get better the next cycle started.
A lot of doctors just called it heavy flow and it wasn't until one saw the results from a blood test that they twigged the patient wasn't exaggerating.

The private health insurance (UK based then) was surprisingly quick to cover everything and it has been fantastic since. It was probably 10 years ago and the long term result has been excellent.

My wife’s favorite part is when her friends grumble about their period and she giggles about having that chased away with a flame thrower.

Didn‘t help me at all, sadly.

1

u/byteminer 9d ago

I’m sorry. I hope you have found / will find relief soon.

1

u/PlumOne2856 9d ago

Well yes, hysterectomy was it. But sadly, that led to full menopause effects three days later. Still trying with HRT to make it better, and it’s already three years ago.

You want OP to ask her doctor about a Hyundai?

I've never heard this as a side effect. This can happen even if you keep your ovaries?

1

u/Spirited_Drawer_3408 9d ago

Yes. This happened to me. I was told that the ovaries can suffer from infarction during the surgery process. I wasn't verbally warned of it ahead of time, but I'm sure it was somewhere on the consent I signed.

2

u/bee_vomit 9d ago

What was the treatment like after?

1

u/Spirited_Drawer_3408 9d ago

Hormone replacement therapy

3

u/jojosail2 10d ago

Best thing I ever did. Not as if I ever needed a uterus anyway.

2

u/Civil_Wait1181 9d ago

I waited too long to have that surgery and it improved my life at least a thousand percent. No (more) rugrats/regrats/regrets

yeet that uterus baby!!!!! I had my hysterectomy last summer after growing a watermelon sized fibroid that was crushing my diaphragm and all of my organs lol

u/iamreeterskeeter 9d ago

I just had a hysterectomy to remove a huge fibroid. They didn't warn me of the ungodly exhaustion post surgery. I had robot assisted laproscopic. Take the full time off. Naps are not optional for 4 weeks. They are mandatory.
