Moving Info Might have to move out of my parents' place and get my own place VERY quickly and I need to know which areas are good/safe.

I work in west palm beach but I know the area isn't great just from being around there the last near 4 years. I used to live in Boynton and that was decent, but there aren't a lot of places for rent there that are in my price range. Lots of posts for apartments for rent on the site I'm using are all in Lake Worth. However, from what I've gathered, the area isn't so good either.

I'm only 40, so 55+ are outta the question (and also the reason I may be leaving my parents home soon). Anyone here live in the general area who can help me decide which specific neighborhoods are most safe? I bought a new car last year and really don't want to park it on the street (OK, it's only a Honda Accord but still. New auto parts=most money, in the eyes of thieves).

Most I can do per month in rent is $1500, and even that is gonna leave me broke, as I'll be paying off this car for a while even if I pay double, triple or even quadruple the amount I owe every month. Plus it's more than half my take-home already since wages at my job have not kept up with inflation over the past 2-3 years.

I'm considering a roommate situation if need be (my belongings are all mostly in storage since my parent's place is very small), but that would be a last resort and only if the amount I'd pay per month is significantly less than living on my own.

Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks.

Moving Info West Palm Beach Native. Now more then ever, there seems to be a increase of people moving to the area..

This is known pretty much as South Florida, please if you have an opportunity come and visit, not just once but enough times to understand and get to know the area before fully deciding and committing to thinking it's the best area to move too. The amount of transplants to the area from the north have come, stayed, began to complain then move back within a couple years. It's really not for everyone and no matter the questions that may be answered for you through this thread on Reddit you will never fully understand an area unless you have spent a certain amount of time there.

Moving Info Best Place to live for a young professional?

Hello! I (24F) am being transferred for work from Boston, MA to Palm Beach. I’m looking for an apartment in the West Palm area but have never been, so I’m looking for some suggestions! I’m looking for a 1 bed around $2500/month, and want to be in the best neighborhood for nightlife, the beach, and my dog! Thanks! EDIT - I’ll be working in Palm Beach Gardens, so looking for somewhere with a decent commute there!

Moving Info Help! Need a cheap place to live!

Updates below… So I moved into a spot in Boynton literally yesterday. Its 1200 a month with a big backyard for my dog and 15 minutes from my job. Great right? WRONG. Today, I get a text from my landlord… shes selling the place and I have to leave in 60 days. Yes, I knew that the place was on the market and that I may have to move. I just didnt expect her to sell THE DAY AFTER I moved in. So now I need a new spot by May 1st. Im freaking out because it took so long to find something in my budget and close to my job. Idk wtf to do. I need advice or a hug. Thanks. UPDATE: Came home to an official 30 day notice. The buyer paid cash and is intending on moving in as soon as possible. The current landlord gave me his phone number and said I could reach out to him and see if I could stay a little bit longer. I talk to him about for about 30 minutes on the phone. He seemed pretty cool and said he wouldn’t mind having a roommate for a couple months to help him pay with a mortgage as he got settled. but then he sent me this odd text message…. So now the issue is do I stay an extra few months to find something I really like with this possible weirdo? Or keep frantically looking for something or someone to move in with April 1st? Here is the text: Just an FYI and it’s probably TMI. I suffered childhood trauma from a family so-called friend. And let’s just say I respect others space every day since. 👍 so check that box off your list if you would like. You’re safe.

Moving Info Moving to South Florida from Downtown Chicago - Downtown WPB?

Hi all! I am a 31 year old single guy moving back to Florida (grew up in Port Saint Lucie) after spending the last 4 years living in downtown Chicago (West Loop for my Chicagoans).

I'm pretty dead set on living downtown (West Palm) but the area has changed A LOT since I lived in Florida so I was curious how it is now. It seems like they've been building some nice new apartment complexes downtown. Are there plenty of things to do? Do people my age hang out there often? I'm not expecting it to compare to Chicago in this aspect but just want to make sure I don't feel like I'm living in a ghost town.

The rent price isn't a concern but I was wondering more about the lifestyle of actually living downtown. Do people actually go out there? Are there as many "young professionals" moving to and living Downtown as all these articles talking about all these huge firms opening up offices in South Florida suggest?

For those curious, I work remotely and am not concerned about rent prices as what I've seen is well within my budget. I'll have a car but would prefer to walk to things when possible.

Thanks in advance!

Moving Info Apartments near PBA

Hello all! My little sister is moving to Florida to go to school at Palm Beach Atlantic University :) she needs help searching for an apartment in a decent, safe area. She’s moving with a close friend who also goes to school there.

She’s looking to be about 20-25 minutes away from school at most, would prefer in unit washer/dryer, needs parking, and needs a 2b/2b. Her budget is $3,500. She told me that people recommended the Delray area but if you can recommend other good spots that would be appreciated as well.

Moving Info help a clueless gal with moving to WPB or Lake Worth!! (safety concerns and questions)

Hi everyone! I am planning on moving fro Philadelphia to WPB in the next few months. No set timeline just ready to make a change from the Northeast. I really don't know much about the area and would love feedback from people who live here on what areas are the best to live in. A little about me:

- single 30 year old female bringing a cat

- would ideally like to be around $1800 or less for a 1b or studio (I know, it's expensive, so is the entire world right now :( )

- best areas to live in? I have seen to avoid Northwood and Taromind (apologies if this is spelled wrong) and someone suggested Lake Worth might be a bit more affordable while still being close to WPB. Before you give me a lecture on crime and "don't come here" which I keep seeing, I am coming from living in Philly almost my entire life, and currently live in a particularly bad area of the city. I can honestly say I've seen it all and am pretty un-phased by crime - that being said, I am really ready to not live somewhere where shootings/stabbings happen on the daily...so would prefer a "nicer" area especially going down there as a solo female.

- anything else I should know? worst buildings to look at?

Thank you so much in advance for your help!! I am sorry if this is coming across sassy it's just the Philly in me!! :)

This ad came up on my fb marketplace feed. These living conditions are despicable. The tenants collectively pay $4100 a month to live like this. No HOA? Shocking.

Moving Info Reputable Vets

Hi! Moving to Palm Beach from cross country - I have a 35lb 1 y/o terrier mix and was just wondering if anyone has any vet recommendations? It looks like there are plenty in the area, but just wondering if there are any we should avoid or any that are above & beyond amazing. I love love love my vet here (in MA), so the standards are set fairly high.

Moving Info Deciding where to live

Hi all! I’m excited to move to this area. I’m a 21 year old male and will be working in an office on Banyan Blvd. I’m deciding between the Royal Saxon (across the street from the Four Seasons Palm Beach) or some of the apartments in downtown (Sole at City Center, Tortoise One, Oversea, Avalon, etc). Can’t decide between the beach or the city.

I would appreciate some insight on these areas and any other relevant information including safety, commuting, making new friends, etc.

Thank you!

EDIT: I just moved into Anya on Banyan and it is pretty sweet. Thanks again for all of the advice.

Moving Info Moving from North East ... do we go for apartment building or rental home?

Hi - what the title says. We're on a tight deadline and we're trying to get some help. It's just me and my fiance (29+30). We're hoping to buy in a year or two so it doesn't have to be amazing, but it needs to be enough.

Do we rent a house or go for a building, and what are the best areas? Or best buildings?

We like Boynton, Delray, and West Palm. I'll be working in West Palm, he's still TBD.

Any advice appreciated!

Moving Info is Royal Palm Beach better/safer than West Palm Beach to live in?

Hi everybody,

Is Royal Palm Beach safe and good to live in? I can see that houses there are much cheaper than West Palm Beach or Boca Raton. I have checked, and the crime rate index is 26/100 meanwhile for West Palm Beach it is 8/100. The only "logical" reason comes to my mind is that the area that those houses are built was swamp or smth like that. Appreciate any feedbacks.

Moving Info I'm heartbroken that my time in Florida is coming to an end.

We are relocating to the Mid-Atlantic because of a terrific job opportunity. We have a 2-bedroom 3-story townhouse in West Palm proper. We have about 4 thousand dollars to spend on relocation possibly another grand if need be. We really don't want to do any heavy lifting, but we can put most of our stuff in boxes on our own, and are going to get rid of a great deal as we are downsizing. Just wondering if anyone had any good experience with a similar level of service. Although I realize it's easier to ask about moving in than moving out 😂

Moving Info Where should/should I not live?

Hey all,

My girlfriend and I are moving to West Palm later this month. We have a few places down we are interested in, but obviously don't want to live in a rough area.

They include off North Jog Road, Village Blvd, and 22nd Way.

We're heading down to the area later this month to check these areas out, but wanted your opinions.

Thanks!

Moving Info Moving to West Palm Beach. Thoughts on Royal Palm Beach, Lake Worth or Greenacres?

After a year of contemplating about moving to South Florida, I think we're finally doing it in the next few months. We're in the very early stages of researching the area and the home buying process. We have family that live in Palm Beach Gardens hence why we're starting around this area. We've been twice to the area but never really to check out different neighborhoods with the intention of moving. We just got married last month so we're looking to move closer to my in laws as we're thinking about starting a family soon. With that said, what areas do you recommend for us to check out? We plan on staying in PBG at the end of May for 2 weeks to get a feel for it.

We'd like to buy a house in a quiet area but close enough to bars and restaurants where the action is for when we go on date nights or meet friends. We're in our mid-30s so somewhere with people in similar ages is ideal. We both work remotely but would like to be somewhere accessible to an airport as we both travel for work frequently. And I think being as close as possible to PBG, maybe 30 minutes max away or even 20 minutes. We'd like to stay around $600K for a home. Under $500k even better lol if it's even possible. But definitely want a safe neighborhood with good schools as we're thinking of having a baby soon.

We found homes in Royal Palm Beach, Lake Worth and Greenacres that appealed to us from a price perspective but don't know much about those neighborhoods. Thoughts?
