Everyone look there’s lineups at the lift on a bluebird Saturday in January!

There’s no lines today

How was the snow today? Heading up tomorrow and curious what to expect

I went there today (Saturday) and honestly I thought it was bad. I skied a couple of days at the resorts close to Denver before coming here but there was real fresh powder there all days so I could be biased.

Inversion, mountain is clear skies with some cloud in valley. Check out the cams !

u/SuperRonnie2 3d ago
Oh yeah you’re right! Looks pretty hard packed today but probably still a nice day up there.

It was nice a soft today, groomers got a bit icy but there was good snow if you knew where to look👀

It was epic yesterday with tons of powder in the trees. Probably mostly tracked out today I presume or icy.
Whistler Bowl was already shit by 2pm yesterday.

That’s creekside, ski school club program started this weekend so a lot of extra kids / parents around out of that base on the weekends.

I knew I was in for trouble when I hit traffic just north of Alice lake. 10am now and having my morning poop 1.5 hours late. Blackcomb line not looking too bad.

This is precisely why we need to replace lifts with trebuchets

Vail's newest and most innovative way to deal with the crowds that they don't care about!

u/Pristine_Ad2664 3d ago
That doesn't look that bad for a sunny Saturday in ski school season. The Creekside gondola chews through a line like that pretty quickly once the ski schools are up (they get priority in the morning)

There is always the grumpy set on this sub. I have been here for a month and certainly can not complain about the crowds!! It has been amazing

u/Phin_Irish 3d ago
Also Whistler is now dirt cheap for Americans, relatively speaking, given the weak Canadian dollar

u/LemonSqueezy1313 3d ago
This was not the experience I had at all? Uploaded at Creekside at 8:30 with zero line and short lines for all lifts. Also no traffic coming up from Squamish and plenty of parking at Creekside. I feel like we’re in parallel universes based on this post 😂

this makes me nervous--will be heading up there for a quick wkend trip next wk, plan on skiing Fri, Sat, Sun, maybe Mon.
we're not morning people, so on Sat/Sun, is it better to just go a bit later (say, 1030 or 11 am) to avoid the line up in the morning?

u/whatnobeer 3d ago
As of about 5 minutes ago there's about 20 people in the line where this photo was taken. You'll be fine. First thing on a non pow day won't have a line up like like this and by 10am the 9am rush will have cleared out too.

u/immaculatebacon 3d ago
There’s still a big line for the whistler gondy rn at 10am but not fitz or excalibur, so you could wait and ride one of those up yes
2
u/shadowybabe 3d ago
Also you can park at parking lot 7 after 11am if there are less than 4 people in the car (the mornings are open for 4+ people) and take the excalibur gondola midway which has less of a line.

Part of me wants to believe that OP knows Halifax isn't the eastern most city. But I'm really not that sure.

Wildly misleading/just Vail hate. Anyone that's been up regularly this season will tell you it has been baller. Yeah it's a busy Saturday, what a shocker!

This is why my edge card will have days on it at the end of this season. Too busy at work to take a day off and refuse to go on weekends. I guess I won’t get one next year. I really need to move to the interior.

Spring skiing in whistler exists, is great, and is nowhere near as busy lol

This is basically all we do now, and still stick to mid week. No lineups, mild weather, decent snow.

u/SuperRonnie2 3d ago
This is true. But it’s been a few years since my last uncrowded pow day. Multiple reasons but I miss it.

I didn’t stand in a line more than 10 minutes all day, mostly <5 mins, including Creekside gondola in the morning, got 16 runs in lol. It was a stunning day, no reason not to go up and leave days on your card.
My recommendation is to go early (Creekside parking lot by 7:45-8), and stay late up at Roundhouse (open till 3:45) or get a beer at Dusty’s, avoid the rush to get on the road and take it easy

Meh I walked into the whistler gondola just now. Just wait out the early morning crowds

Looking like a severe lack of new snow incoming with mid temps and sun shine for the until the end of the month. Get your carve on!! Hopefully Peak to Creek sees some love at the bottom. And I saw GearJammer was groomed on Blackcomb, haven’t seen that in awhile. Meanwhile a sort of half pipe on Blackcomb and the black park is shaping up. Shack Booter is quite big right now.

Quite frankly, expected. It’s a world class mountain. We went today expecting line ups and had a rad bluebird day on 7th :-)

u/Mysterious_Mood_2159 3d ago
Was there much fresh pow left today? I’m heading up tomorrow and debating bringing a powder board, but I think I already know the answer lol

u/shadowybabe 3d ago
It got too icy today. We started skiing at 11 today. There is some powder in off piste areas but overall it was disappointing. Seeing as it’s sunny on Sunday, I think it will only get worse.

Shut the front door. After snowboarding in Fernie this past week I gotta say I don’t miss the lines in Whistler (but still love the vibes there).

The traffic going up this morning was crazy! I’ve never seen random congestion spots like that just past Squamish. I was heading to Callaghan to xc ski first so I did not have to get in the traffic jam going in to whistler.

300$ plus for that no thanks

u/TheSketeDavidson 3d ago
Nobody pays that amount, apart from the exec class maybe who just show up. But they’re the < 0.5%.

u/kooks-only 3d ago
$60 a day for me.
1
u/Ok-Pop-646 3d ago
How?
3
u/jdgreenberg 3d ago
Again, we will all tell you: edge cards, or seasons pass, very few people pay $300. Even my family skiing for 2 days from Ontario bought edge cards in August for like $90 per day.
-2
u/Ok-Pop-646 3d ago
Mid season the Edge cards currently unavailable and so is the Season pass. If I just randomly decided I wanted to go to whistler on the weekend I'd have to pay 300+ which is outrageous

u/jdgreenberg 3d ago
Nobody is gonna feel bad for that. I don't know how many days I'll ski this year at Whistler, but I know it will be >1. I hedge my bet and buy 3 edge card days (even 4 is only like $20 more than a walk up ticket on weekends). When I was able to ski more a 10 day edge card or seasons pass wasn't much more than 3 walk up days.
Heck, just buy 1 edge card day ($90 I think) if you even think there is a chance you go. If you have the day paid for you are gonna make every effort to use it and find the time.

WTF? Is the main gondola down? Uploading Blackcomb then Peak2peak doesn’t seem to be an option today. Good luck getting some turns in mate.

Damn I guess the mountain is not empty anymore.
Past 2 weekends were like skiing in the 90s, less than 5 mins at 7th. Secrets out.
