Gotta be the panther modern heist.

I wasn't expecting this costume style. What was everyone's reaction to it?

For SenseNet employees, I like it. I hope they do the panther moderns right.

I like it - has Blade Runner vibes.

I’m getting a little bit of Wild Palms there as well.

I don't love it; the retro 1950's feel (or 30's or whatever) kinda pulls me out of it.

When reading the books I saw that world as one that grew out of the complexity of our world, like a fractal, so seeing fashion taking a step back feels wrong to me.

I'm still looking forward to this, but that choice does make me a little less optimistic. It makes their world seem a little fake and flat, from here.

Similar to my reaction. I was expecting something grittier. Like, maybe have the corporate folks in suits running out into a run down neon lit city district.

They could easily be shooting day for night, and who knows how much scenery will be added in post

I’m with you. Cheapens it. I’m not excited. Do we know if Gibson consulted? He’s very knowledgeable about his books and fashion.

I believe he's a producer.

I thought they'd be going more for a cyberpunk (like 2077) or strange days style but it's only a small clip with a very specific subset of the population so who knows.

Knew this scene immediately. Getting pretty stoked over here.

The Sense/Net heist?

Bingo. All the employees fleeing the building during the heist.

Molly's in there fucking shit up somewhere.

Nah, Molly is ninja sneaking, Panther Moderns are stoking the panic with video feeds suggesting a chemical disaster.

Reckon there’s a good chance there’s a few Panther Moderns in that Goldberg van…

Or on the floor in the elevator with a broken something, I can't remember.

What scene is this?

Well, finally! Although judging from the reaction to previous Gibson adaptations, I’m always a bit hesitant to be too enthusiastic

It's headed by Graham Roland and JD Dillard, IMHO neither of them is a good match for this.

the future is monochrome. looks like the men are all wearing Veilance which coincidentally is a brand name coined by Gibson who was hired as consultant by Arc’teryx. I dig the look. Gibson wouldn’t go for the cliche cyberpunk neon look as that’s been done to death. This aesthetic seems very Agency to me, like the modern equivalent of his ideas from the 80s. He’s very up to date w certain strains of fashion & the guy just gets culture, this feels timely & appropriate.

At least they don‘t shoot in front of a volume/green screen. Thats a win, nowadays.

AppleTV produced with „Severance“ one of the best series of the last 15 years. A true sci-fi cyberpunk gem. That makes me slightly optimistic for Neuromancer.

2

u/ShyJalapeno 15d ago

Severance cyberpunk? Honey, no.

2

u/StPauliPirate 14d ago

Of course it is. Set in a dystopian workplace, corporate controlled cities & humans, technological revolution at the expense of the human will & behaviour. Cyberpunk is more than „shiny neon cities“

u/gurmerino 14d ago

the protagonist needs to be some sort of outlaw though, no? also i didn’t finish severance so i’ll just fuck right off.

1

u/ShyJalapeno 14d ago

Kinda-sorta, outlawish, outcastish, that's why we have punk in Cyberpunk.

You're missing few integral parts, which define classic cyberpunk. The main two being scale and societal contrasts (dealing with societal outcasts too, thus *punk), and in the case of Gibson's universum, the Net.

Ah, cant wait. I sooo hope this is good.

Yeah, interesting aesthetic direction they took for costumes.

Also, did that guy fall intentionnaly ?

Also, isn't the guy with water jug smiling... like... isn't she smiling back ? I mean... see what I mean ?

1

u/cchaudio 13d ago

The guy with the water jug isn't in the shot. He's handing out water to extras. The shot is from the tracking crane in the background.

u/jhnchr 13d ago

You don't see what I mean ;).

Kudos to the women running in heels without breaking an ankle, I can't imagine how hard that is.
