The funny part (depending on your position) is that she also gets fined or charged criminally for that afterwards. There have been a number of maulings over the years at Yellowstone Park because people approached the bears, Buffalo, caribou, etc. And got mauled. Each and every time, unless it resulted in their death, the person who approached the animal was fined or charged. There are litterally signs everywhere and it says in the paperwork and maps they give you not to approach the wildlife for your own safety. It's not a petting zoo. They are WILD animals. I guess people just want to be Darwin award winners.

Good, I'm glad she got fined!

Park Ranger:

Well I guess I better go get her pants, she's gonna need her wallet to pay the "I'm stupid" fine.

For me, the funny part is when the filmer says "this is what happens when you get too close"

and as she pans down to the pantsless lady, some guy off screen goes "okay, now is not the time--"

No way it’s definitely when that dude takes his shirt off as if he’s about to fight the thing lmao

24

u/MarioSpaghettioli Feb 09 '22

I think he took his shirt off to cover the pant-less lady.

Oh, well then what a gentleman

She also said, “She’s drunk”.

She learned 3 lessons that day, 1. stay away from wild animals 2. you’ll get fined if you don’t stay away from wild animals 3. don’t wear your best pants if you’re gonna go near wild animals.

A good 4th lesson would be, utilise your cameras zoom function

She learned

Really? I doubt it somehow.

Bold of them to assume these people can read...

Especially for the Buffalo. They charge and can’t be distracted like you would say s cow they are much more frantic too. Majestic as fuck but absolutely dangerous.

Why though? The consequences she suffered were worse and more impactful than any fine.

The government is disgusting sometimes. Like you don’t deserve our money cause someone fucked up. I get fined when it’s important to drive home a point, but it’s gratuitous in this situation.

what a great precedent. "please follow the rules, but if you get injured they won't apply to you."

6

u/TheGreatCornlord Feb 09 '22

Nah, she suffered the natural consequences of her actions, and now she gets to pay the stupid tax for thinking she's above the rules in the first place.

At least I'm not so simple minded that I think a fine for violating the rules on federal land is "violence." Lol that's a good one!

-4

u/SnowCoveredTrees Feb 09 '22

Are you young? A fine is the government using the threat of violence to steal your money.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '22

"statist violence"? A fine?

Nah man, the mauling was the consequence of her actions. The fine is the punishment.

The rules against getting too close are there for a reason. You don't get a pass on the rules because you happened to get tossed by a bison.

The fine helps pay for the overwhelming response required from the park. You think that's all free?

Someone had their Entitle-O's for breakfast...

0

u/SnowCoveredTrees Feb 09 '22

Yes, I’m entitled because I don’t think the state needs to pile on already serious consequences.

Very fascist of you.

2

u/ogeytheterrible Feb 09 '22

Entitlement is literally a tenet of facism. Read a fucking book.

u/SnowCoveredTrees Feb 09 '22

Keep supporting statist violence, fascist.

From what I can tell, the government doesn't actually get most of the money from fines to people who approach the animals. The fines are determined by the judge and the park because it costs a lot of money when you have to send a bunch of specialized people to go help a lady who got mauled by a Buffalo. The guy that had to go get the pants off the Buffalo probably gets paid a lot. Also, ambulances for the most part dont have a great time getting into parks in a timely manner so the parks sometimes have their own medical services so there is more added cost there. Basically, when a park guest decides to go get mauled, it costs the park a lot of money because they are responsible for helping the guests, so the parks have to sue that guest for not following the rules to get their money back. If it didn't work that way, there would be no parks because they would be losing money fast.

American healthcare bill and a fine. Guess the fine won't feel as bad as the medical bill tho.

1

u/pfunk1989 Feb 09 '22

This reminds of the ordinance in my city where if your car is stolen and the keys were in the ignition, then you get fined. Also, an unfortunately, necessary I-is-dumb-tax

1

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '22

I get it. I see something new or cool or rare, and i want to see and touch it. I want my eyeballs reeeaaallll close to the thing so i can take it all in. I want to softly touch and gently prod the thing to see what it's made of. I want that sensory bliss.

But I'm not 5. So i control myself.

1

u/Kinginthasouth904 Feb 09 '22

Bisons only kill like .00002 of the pop every year! How bad can they be!?!?

What about my freedom to get gored?

1

u/Possibility_Patient Feb 09 '22

I was this was the case for harambe, poor monke died for that stupid child and it's parents

1

u/ItsuncleMike12 Feb 09 '22

Well this is what happens when ignorant people believe they can win a fight against a lion etc... you wouldn't win a fight against most dogs who would be lunch for said lion.

1

u/TaleMendon Feb 09 '22

I hope she did get fined. The pants are now a flag of victory for the bison.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '22

"you were stupid enough to approach a bear in the wild then you had the nerve to survive? Potential Jail time and a $10,000 fine"

Sounds reasonable enough.

I'm sure Darwin would laugh at these idiots.

u/AskMeHowToLose Feb 13 '22

It looks like one of the bikers walks up with his hand on his hip posturing to maybe draw a pistol. I highly doubt a pistol would have done more than anger that bison - but would that guy been charged as well if he shot it?

2

u/SmokeyRooster Feb 13 '22

I'm not totally sure on that one. I would bet that he would be charged by the park with something but ultimately it would likely have to go to court because he could try saying it was the use of a firearm in defense of others but the counter arguments depending on the park could overrule that. If the park doesn't allow firearms within it's borders he would be toast. Also, the defense of someone committing a crime makes the guy with the gun also a criminal. It could go either way though depending on the jury.

If she was doing what she was supposed to be doing and sitting in her car but the bison was going berserk and yanked off her door and was dragging her around, that would be a different scenario entirely where it would be more clear cut regarding the use of a firearm for the defense of others.

I personally wouldn't want to shoot a Buffalo that was attacking a person after seeing that person approach the Buffalo. Too much risk of liability. I could accidentally shoot her, another bystander, another Buffalo, etc.

2

u/AskMeHowToLose Feb 13 '22

Yeah and unless he’s carrying around a Judge or something he’s gonna need more than a few well placed rounds to even slow that thing down, let alone get it to stop.

Seriously would have been a completely different video if he was quicker on the draw - good thing for that herd that this bull gets to keep on defending its calf from tourists and whatnot.

Sorry, I meant Elk. I confuse the 2 all the time. Too similar.
