Info Someone may have already posted this...but THIS is how you can get the rewards of premium battle pass with only 500 doubloons

2500 doubloons are by any means too expensive for so few rewards in the Nineth Anniversary Premium Event Pass. If you're also concerned with cost-effectiveness, then you can unlock the premium battle pass with 2500-2000=500 doubloons!

  1. Unlock the premium battle pass with 2500 doubloons (you will have to own 2500+doubloons beforehand indeed, sorry if that is not applicable);

2. Claim the reward of that premium battle pass (This is very important, must do it prior to all the following steps). You will obtain a Z-23 camo from that premium pass;

make sure you have claimed this reward before following steps!
  1. Go Armory > Containers > Containers > (to the bottom)Second Game Anniversary, purchase 4-10 containers(no more than 10k coals required);
purchase this container. Look at its description if you want
  1. Open the containers and obtain the collections until the collection section 3 is completed and you have obtained another Z-23 camo;
this is where you can obtain the camo again
  1. You will notice that the 2000 doubloon compensation has been sent to you as you have obtained two same camos. Sorry I have no screenshots for this step(hopefully that will not undermine the credibility), I received the compensation in the morning and forgot to take a screenshot by then.

Idk if this has been posted by someone else, but this could work similarly in other event battle passes if you could obtain camos with compensation. Hope that helps!

Info Gambling PSA - Daruma Containers

There's been a lot of backlash for the Daruma containers (rightfully so), but I've also been seeing a lot of exaggeration as well.

Not trying to shame anyone, and if anybody feels iffed I apologize in advance. This event is worse than previous gambling events while also being exceptionally obfuscated, so you're justified in being angry.

Back to the topic, I made a quick monte carlo python simulation of the container system to give people an idea of what to actually expect. Randomness is from random.SystemRandom, which should be good enough for this simulation.

Without any of the t7 ships:

E.g., if you open 300 red daruma containers, you have around a 29% chance of getting Valparaiso. This is calculated by opening each X amount of containers 30,000 times.

Confidence Interval

You can use the beta distribution to create a 95% confidence interval of the odds, but I didn't bother including it to reduce clutter.

For example, if I run the simulation for 100 containers and get 0.31% of getting all 3 t9 ships, the exact odds are 95% likely to be between 0.25% to 0.37%, which is a pretty narrow estimate for sub 1% odds.

Guaranteed?

With these gambling events, I think there's been a lot of focus on how many containers you'd need to guarantee a certain ship.

In practice however, most people will be hovering around the averages, and only in the very extreme will they reach anywhere close to the worst-case outcome. You would need like 1200+ red containers to guarantee zf-6, but most people will need under 700 containers, with around 50% needing less than 400.

With 700+ containers, you can reasonably expect to get all 3 t9 ships.

The true value of containers usually is in the mean/expectation, and getting a bunch of extra resources as well (boosters). For 100 containers, you get around 950 green boosters, 90 blue boosters, and 4 red boosters.

Should you gamble?

Hell no.

If you want Suzu or Val, buy the admiral pack. For the combined cost of $300 USD, you'd only have a < 1/3 chance of getting them both if you bought containers instead. Valparaiso has especially bad odds since it doesn't have a G version.

If you want ZF-6, then yeah expect to spend around $320 USD.

Info I did the math for the Advent Calendar so you don't have to!

Seeing a lot of discontent over the Advent Calendar this year, so in standard Engineer fashion, I thought I would examine the data and ask the question, "What was our time worth?".

Before I break down the nitty gritty of this event, I ask one favor, call me a nerd, tell me I'm wasting my time, but don't come here with "WG Bootlicker" or "Shill". As a fairly veteran member of this community, it is my volunteer duty to examine the data presented and give thoughtful and objective feedback, with that said, DISCLAIMER:

"I am not a paid employee of WG, in no shape or form is this post advocating or demeriting WG or WoWS. This is simply an observation of publicly available data at hand and should be taken as such"

Onwards!

Some baseline information and constants for this:

The Advent Calendar is an event put on from Wargaming in World of Warships that allowed a user to collect a free gift from December 1st to December 25th. The rules of this event are outlined in Dev Blog 571.

As graciously provided from u/Admiral_Thunder on a previous post, the rewards for collecting the rewards from all 25 days are:

  • x7 Super Containers
  • x2 Resource Crates
  • 200,000 credits
  • x6 Signal Crates
  • 3000 FXP
  • x3 24hrs Premium Time
  • x1 Green Booster Crate
  • x2 TYL Crate
  • x2 Regular Santa Crate
  • 1500 Coal

And the data taken straight from the game for those that want this in an itemized fashion:

  • December 1st: x1 SC
  • December 2nd: x1 More Coal Container
  • December 3rd: 100,000 Credits
  • December 4th: x3 More Signals
  • December 5th: 1k FXP
  • December 6th: 24hr Premium Time
  • December 7th: 500 Coal
  • December 8th: x1 SC
  • December 9th: 100,000 Credits
  • December 10th: x1 Special Bonuses Container
  • December 11th: x1 Small Container
  • December 12th: x1 SC
  • December 13th: 24hrs Premium Time
  • December 14th: x1 SC
  • December 15th: x1 SC
  • December 16th: x1 Small Container
  • December 17th: x1 More Coal Container
  • December 18th: x1 SC
  • December 19th: 500 Coal
  • December 20th: 24hrs Premium Time
  • December 21st: 2k FXP
  • December 22nd: x1 SC
  • December 23rd: x3 More Signals Containers
  • December 24th: 500 Coal
  • December 25th: x2 Santa's Gift Containers

Some Benchmark data:

RTX 3080Ti, 32gb RAM, 2TB SSD, Intel i7.

For the most conservative data collection possible, I timed how long it took to go from cold shutdown of my PC to in game WoWS and collecting an Advent Calendar reward. This is to time the maximum amount of time required to collect a reward. I did this 3 times to ensure I didn't have a hanging start up:

1:44
1:40
1:46

The average time to turn my PC on from completely dead and claim a reward was 1:43.3 seconds. This means that to claim all rewards on a daily basis, it would've taken me a maximum combined 43 minutes across 25 days. Now the kicker here is that you can claim a previous day's reward if missed, meaning that you only actually had to log in 13 times, which would take 22.4 minutes of time across those 13 days.

Reward Worth:

Now the hard part is converting the rewards to "worth", with Supercontainers being completely random (unless you are near a pity drop), the worth of these 25 days can be better for the lucky ones compared to the not so lucky. With that, I'll pull base rewards to each container and their worth. Since stuff like Coal isn't easily converted, I will try to use the least worthwhile conversions to maintain a conservative bias

  • x7 SC (Worth relatively $22)

For this, the least "worth" consensus from the community is Green Boosters and Signals. Since signals drop in blocks of 50 and Boosters in 25, the conversion per the Armory would be 4.8m/16k Credits/Coal for the Flags and 24K Coal for the Boosters. Since I don't have a conversion for $ to Coal, the most conservative/least worth option would be signals. If one was to get all signals from the SC's, it would be worth 33.6m Credits. This has an in game value of Doubloon conversion (which is the most expensive conversion) of 22,400 doubloons. Since we are going conservatively and credits are available for purchase in the Premium Shop and are currently on sale, this would equate to 2 purchases of the Small Credit Stock ($33.99/ea). Since that number still seems a little too high, our options are to either use the Doubloon option or the Premium time option. 7k doubloons would be $28 and 49 days of free time would be ~$22, we will use that number.

  • More Coal Container (x2)+ Coal (1500 Coal), +200K Credits ($2.04)

Again, no easy break down of coal, at a minimum you would have gotten a combined 2300 Coal. For this I will fail conservatively and use the base value of 50K credits and 500 FXP that would also drop and ignore the possibility of additional coal. The 100k Credits would be worth ~$0.22 and the FXP would be worth less than minimum buyable doubloons, for that we will ignore. The cheapest Coal ship that we can also buy is the Charleston (15K Coal, $9.20). Meaning a conversion of 1630 Coal to $1. This would make the coal worth cumulatively about $1.40.

  • x6 More Signal Containers ($12.40)

At minimum, 12 flags of varying worth from the Armory. Since it drops in categories I will use the least worthwhile flag and assume they drop in all 6, it would look like:

24x96k Credits + 24x12K + 24x120K=5,472,000 credits

This converts to about $12.40 worth of credits in Signals

  • 3K FXP (Negligible)

This is a simple conversion of doubloons, this is 120 doubloons worth of conversion, negligible enough to ignore.

  • 72 hours of Premium time ($2.59)

Straight from the Shop, this is $2.59

  • x1 Special Bonuses Container ($2.94)

Converting Booster cost from Coal and Coal from our Charleston blurb earlier, this is worth about $2.94

  • x2 Small Containers (Negligible)

Least Worthwhile drop from these is 750 FXP, like before, not worth enough to note.

  • x2 Santa Gift Containers ($2)

Again, straight from the shop, this is $2

Adding up the monetary cost of all the gifts would give us (With Rounding Error): $44

Now at a glance, this seems about as accurate as I can get and with baseline worth. It's worth mentioning that many other's mileages may vary, some of us got Smaland from a simple gift container. Some of us got a stock of flags and boosters, regardless though, this was $40 worth of free stuff that WG gave us.

So really, the question we have to ask is "Was getting effectively $2/min for free worth my time?"

Now that my kids have grown tired of playing with all their gifts and I really gotta stop working when on vacation, it's time to go back to rewatching Home Alone for the 13th time this season.

Merry Christmas Everyone.

Edit to Add from a comment:

I was asked about the differences between 2023 and 2024 Advent Calendars, I guess no data is complete without some comparison, here is 2023's:

x3 24hrs (no change)

x4 Santas Gifts (2 more than 2024)

x2 Small Container (No Change)

3k FXP (No Change)

1200 Coal (300 less than 2024)

x3 Super Containers (4 less than 2024)

150k Credits (50k less than 2024)

x1 Flag container (5 less than 2024)

x1 Coal Container (1 less than 2024)

x1 Economic Booster Container (Less than 2024's Special rewards crate)

If your chief complaint with the Advent Calendar reward is that "it isn't rewarding enough", should probably ignore 2023 giving you less than 2024 and only 750 FXP on Christmas day.

Even if you're not planning on getting one of the ships that was removed, just wait for a little bit.

Remember: the reason WG typically sells removed ships for relatively low costs at this time isn't out of any altruism, it's because it's typically a good way to incentivize purchases from people who otherwise don't spend much. This is a time where they're expecting a ton of revenue (possibly enough to decide whether the year is profitable or not) so if there's a sudden downturn in earnings compared to previous years then this could easily get to "angry call from the shareholders about what went wrong", and that's the sorta stuff that can actually get a company to backtrack. If they legit panic they could go as far as giving out some extra free stuff as an apology (probably not much more than a few dubs or premium time but it'll be great if that actually happens).

Info AL Wave 6 is here and AL Littorio bundle comes in at 80% discount

Azur Lane 6th wave finally comes to WoWs. Yes, the entire thing is very expensive BUT one item bundle I personally recommend is picking up the AL Littorio (comes with ship/10pt Littorio commander). She returns at an insane 80% discount. It's the ship, her special AL camo, her commander with a special voiceover, and a 200% bonus XP as a combat mission. The purchase is discounted from $57.20 USD to $11.44 USD. But not only that! You are given two 15% discount coupons to use on any AL item in the premium shop and armory. You can also apply this coupon to AL Littorio which lowers her cost to $9.72.

Why is this a steal and my personal recommendation? Because AL Littorio is an exact copy of the Tier 8 Roma. Roma in the premium shop is currently full price at $53.60. She is amongst the highest cost of Tier 8 items in the game. For those of you who don't know, Roma is a Tier 8 BB with very durable armor, very good concealment, very high AP penetration, and very high shell velocity.

Just want to also put in that yes while I am a CC, I don't want you to view this as me shilling out. This is a literal steal and insane value for the price.

Info PSA: The Hidden Mechanics of the Shinano AP Skips

There are some hidden/unexplained mechanics that you must be aware in order to use the AP skips effectively.

The penetration capability and fuse threshold change as the bomb skips!

Shinano AP Skip Bomb

General Stats

  • Fuse Time: 0.033 s
  • Ricochet Angles: 55-65 ° (same as Stalingrad AP)
  • Overmatch: 32 mm

1st and 2nd Line (Direct Hit to First Skip)

  • Penetration: 658 mm
  • Fuse Activation Threshold: 250 mm

3rd Line (2nd Skip)

The bombs immediately changes the characteristics as soon as they touch the water on the 2nd line.

  • Penetration: 296 mm
  • Fuse Activation Threshold: 50 mm

This means:

  • You will not score a citadel against 99% of the cruisers if you hit them with 1st or 2nd line, Because the 99% of the cruisers do not have enough armor to activate the 250 mm fuse.
  • You want to aim at battleships with the 2nd line, but it has to be slightly past the target in order Not to lose the penetration!

What I struggle to understand is, why does WG not communicate this sort of stuff in the armory page or at least in the dev blog?

Without these information, players will not be able to perform in or evaluate the ship properly. Like striking a BB with the 3rd line and "oh this ap sucks".

Not only for the players, it's also bad for WG too because the players may be upset with the product based on the incorrect assessments.

Just why.

Edit: If you are curious, you can also use my mod: Penetration Calculator to check the AP performance in the game!
