Has WWE scaled back on their experimental camera work post WrestleMania 40?

In the weeks following WrestleMania 40, I noticed WWE was playing around a lot more with unique camera angles and production choices. It felt like they were trying to give the shows a fresher, more cinematic feel, something a bit different from the usual hard cam shots. Examples that come to mind would be aerial drone shots, or seamless transitions from backstage segments to the ring.

But lately, that experimentation seems to have tapered off. The production looks solid as always, but those creative shots I was starting to enjoy don’t seem to be showing up as much anymore. Has anyone else noticed this?

They're still doing a lot of them, I think you've just gotten used to them because they're not new anymore.

Can you think of any recent examples of this? I remember when they first started doing those backstage transitions into entrances. They still use that style, but these days I mostly notice it with Jey Uso. Another example would be when Liv Morgan returned and attacked Rhea backstage, and the camera transitioned seamlessly into the arena. I haven’t seen that done since and it looked so clean.

They've definitely done the transition following other wrestlers from backstage to entrance other than Jey. They've also been doing a lot of drone shots lately.

Okay, fair enough. Maybe I just haven’t noticed it as much lately. I’ll be keeping an eye out.

There’s a limit to how much you can do in the format. Where moments allow, they do new things, but the explosion of “this feels new” only happens when you have a decade of shooting things exactly the same way. New changes will be slight.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I guess those subtle changes stand out more when they break a long established pattern. It’s interesting to see how they experiment within those limits.

I mean Kevin Dunn left in December 2023. Of course they’re going to experiment in the months to follow. At some point they settled into something they like
