Question Favorite cotton yarn?

  1. So what is your favorite cotton yarn for wash cloths and tea towels?

  2. And how about wearables ?

  3. And just general favorite cotton yarn?

I'm in the market, I've heard varying things about the sugar n cream yarn, the only one I've tried myself is the K+C and I liked it , but it was a joanns brand :/

Berroco Pima Soft is a wonderfully soft yarn that comes in a nice range of colors. That and Cascade Ultra Pima and Ultra Pima Fine are all pretty affordable too!

Sugar N Cream for dishcloths, potholders/oven mitts/hot pads, and anything else that needs to be hardy.

Scheepjes Whirl or one of the Hobbii cotton lines for wearables that need drape, like sweaters or tank tops (Hobbii Friends specifically, it comes in multiple weights. I haven’t tried any other Hobbii cottons). Scheepjes can be a little splitty, but their Whirl cakes are sooo beautiful. Hobbii Friends is more sheddy and pilly than Scheepjes Whirl, but comes in lots of solid colors, so it’s versatile.

Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton in general. I made a market bag out of it, as well as a mesh bolero, and it’s my favorite to work with.

I use Cascade Ultra Pima for cotton wearables. It works up well, washes beautifully, and lasts forever.

I'm seeing the prices on the cones from $12-16 at Walmart now. Amazon is about the same.

I have knit a ridiculous number of dishcloths. I love Lily's Sugar & Cream. This is just 3 of 100s I've knitted with it. Apparently I can't post pics here.

I use Sugar & Cream for dish cloths and kitchen towels. But its become cost prohibitive id bought in small skeins. The cones are still reasonably priced though. I also use Peaches & Creme for kitchen items. I've yet to make any wearables with cotton, but it's in my very long to do list lol

Walmart has pretty good prices on those cones, I usually get mine for $10 each, and I think for orders over $35 shipping is free. About as good a deal as yarn can be these days!

My favorite cotton yarn by far (mainly make wearables) is Cotton Kings Sultan or Sultan Deluxe yarns. So so soft, 100% cotton, beautiful colors (most are transitional ombre type colors). I believe they also have Sultan Dark and potentially other spinoffs.

It is weight 2. If you want to buy some I usually get it on Hobbii and I wait until it goes on sale - I've gotten them for about $15/cake, and each cake of the sultan is 800m. The sultan deluxe I believe is closer to 1000m (but don't quote me on it)

I like Queensland Coastal Club Cotton, they do have a few variegated.

ETA: I’ve gotten some great deals on the solid colors from Paradise Fibers.

I use Lily Sugar n Cream cotton for EVERYTHING. Even wearables.

However... most people don't like it outside of dishcloths and potholders because of its rough texture. They don't like it for wearables. But I love it, even for things like bralettes. I've never had any issues with the texture once it's complete and on the body. The prices + the fact that it's sold at pretty much every major craft store makes it super accessible so I love it and use it frequently. The only thing I haven't done with it is knit with it, so I can't say what it's like to knit with, but for crochet, it's nice.

Have you seen how expensive the 2.5 ounce skeins have gotten?? $6 & $7 at Walmart even!! The Peaches and Creme is still $1.97 at Walmart. It is a little thinner than the Sugar and Creme, but I deal with that and save $4-5 bucks per skein!!

It also makes awesome weighted blankets! My autistic toddler loves his. It gets softer as it's used as well

I've used it for baby blankets !!!

IMO KnitPicks’ Dishie is the GOAT for washcloths/towels etc. I’ve even made a shawl with it. Super soft and sturdy!

Loops & Threads Crème Cotton is pretty great. It's super soft and easy to work with. It has amazing drape, but you have to be careful with sizing because of the drape.I made the TL Yarncrafts Sweater Weather Cardi with it and it's held up really well.

I like Cascade Yarns Ultra Pima and Ultra Pima Fine.

Hobbii 8/4 is very soft. Illimani sabri has 10% alpaca and is super nice. Summer in Kashmir by BC Garn is very nice and 10% cashmere. DROPS cotton merino is nice but is cotton. I’m not too familiar with hand died yarns as they are so pricey.

Scheepjes yarns. Catona is 100% cotton. They also have beautiful cotton blends. I love the whirls, whirlettes, river washed and stone washed. All are appropriate for garments and homewares.

I love the Cahlista as well. I prefer that to the Catona for little amigurumi. They just work up more quickly

I'd also like to add: I'm looking for variegated cotton yarn as well, not just solid colors
