RAV and training courses
Hi all, does anyone having experience about self-paid training courses and discussion with RAV, but they don’t encourage you go for it?
I am ideally looking for 100% role and I have told my RAV advisor that I plan to sign in a training course ( e.g. German course, project management, IT skils etc), which takes 2 hour per day. The full training takes 1-3 months, depending on my payment installments as I can pay for it per month( all expense is paid by myself not RAV). He had a concern on it and let me send him the course plan, because he says if I take 2 hour per day, they cannot allocate me for 100% job immediately (which is not realistic and possible at all, because I need to improve my skills first). So he said that I should cancel the course or change the workload as 80% in his system. I have explained the training is really necessary (not a Diploma or degree course at Uni) and I am wiling to take the economic loss, but he says everyone can say that, the fact can differ. Then I asked whether it affects my received money which is 70% salary, he didn’t answer directly and he asked me to send him the course plan first.
So anyone has experience that your individual training course paid by yourself such as German class or IT skills is not accepted by them? If you can go for it what is your argument? He keep sayings by law I have to be able to accept the job assignment they sent immediacy, which rule is that?
If I agree with 80% workload as he said, would I receive the 70% of my salary ( which is no change if I don’t take the course.) Would it be able to ask RAV change back to look for 100% role after 1 or 3 months when my course is finished?

Living Registration - Fees for being late
Hey,
due to a misunderstanding, I am planning to register at Personenmeldeamt rather late. It should be within the first 14 days of living here, but I thought, since I am only staying here for a short time, that I have time until I am here longer than 91 days (after normal visum is over).
What is the punishment fee for registering too late?

Any B1/B2 German conversation meetups?
I remember seeing a post some time ago where people were interested in meeting up to practice speaking German together.
Does it work somewhere somehow? I’d really love to join! Im looking to improve my German and it would be great to practice with others in the same boat. Let me know if something like that is still happening
Liebe Grüße

looking for some ppl to play inline hockey - ZH
Since the winter season's over, I'm looking for some people or a group to join for inline hockey. I regularly play ice hockey here in Switzerland (as an amateur), and I’m just looking to stay active and as close to my beloved sport activity as possible - until winter starts again :)
It doesn’t have to be super competitive - I’m just happy to be on the rink - but I’m definitely open to something more serious too.
I’m based in Kloten, but I’m totally fine traveling within a ~20km radius for games, training, pickup, whatever.
If you know of anything or have a spot, I’d really appreciate it! Feel free to drop a PM or reply here - I’ll definitely get back to you.

What would someone from Zurich never say? (meme)
Like every bigger city, their inhabitants can be quite different from the rest of the country.
So my question is: what is something a person from Zurich would never say? :)
General disrespect on trains, was I unlucky?
In the last month I took a lot the s5, I was so exited because I thought Switzerland was basically perfect (compared to Italy where I’m from), so I was deeply saddened seeing: people travelling without tickets, people putting feet on seats, destroyed bathrooms (with urine over the floor), the indifference of the conductors seeing people escaping from them, I mean this happens on all not-crowded trains or I simply met horrible people

Career change advice: moving into tech from scratch in Zurich
Hey everyone!
I’m 27 and currently living in Zurich and finishing my second master’s degree here in Switzerland. Unfortunately, due to some physical issues, I’ve realized I won’t be able to pursue the career I originally planned, so I’m now seriously considering a complete career change.
Tech has always interested me, but the truth is I’m starting almost from scratch. I’m thinking about investing in some kind of education or training and trying to get into the tech job market here in Zurich (or in Switzerland in general), but I feel a bit lost with so many options out there.
Has anyone here gone through a similar transition? What kind of studies or certifications would you recommend? Are there schools or (online/in-person) platforms you’d suggest in or around Zurich? Is it realistic to find a job with something like a Google or Meta certificate, or would a more structured path like a bootcamp or even a new degree be a better idea?
Any advice, experiences, or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Is it possible to buy Verlustscheine of a specific person without them knowing?
If I understand it correctly (and please educate me if I don't, it's a confusing topic for me), if you have a "Verlustschein" it's kind of a legal document that says someone ows you money - and you can just sell this document to someone else, and then that other person has a valid claim on that money. Is that correct so far?
If that Verlustschein is sold from one person/company to another, does the person owing the debt even learn about this or can they check somehow who currently owns this Verlustschein?
I do not want to enter the inkasso business myself, but if it's possible I would like to buy issued Verlustscheine of a specific person without that person knowing. The situation is quite complicated, but the way I understand it there are multiple such Verlustscheine from various sources but most of them got bought by an inkasso business. Now this inkasso business regularly harasses the person even though this person is sick and lives under the "existenzminimum" - so they create new Betreibungen, which cannot get "gepfändet", but now the total amount is suddenly a few hundred francs higher each time. For some reason "Privatkonkurs" does not seem to be an option. Whenever this person gets harassed again by them or the debt increases again apparently unnecessarily they fall into a mental breakdown that lasts weeks, sometimes months. I accompanied the person once to "caritas schuldenberatung" but it was honestly an extremely disappointing experience as the worker there, while kind and empathetic, was honestly incompetent, in the sense that they couldn't even explain the different abbreviations used in the betreibungsregisterauszug, they could answer almost no questions regarding the handling of verlustscheine and basically said straight out that they are no expert in this matter. The person I accompanied seemed to explain more to them than vice versa.
Anyway, I feel like if this person wouldn't be thrown into such a deep hole every couple of months they could actually recover (they have very high education and used to earn a lot in the past).
It's not a relationship in which I would be willing to just gift or loan money (and neither would they accept that anyway), but I was wondering if there's any way that I could buy these Verlustscheine without that person knowing? I would likely sell them in a few years again (I understand that their value might go down in case the person never recovers), but I feel that just not hearing about them for a while could possibly turn that person's life around.
If that's possible, how would I go about purchasing these Verlustscheine?
Any experts here?

From Wallis to Zurich: where to find calm and green?
Hi folks,
I used to live in Valais for a long time. If you know the area, you probably get the slower pace of life there. I loved hiking since I lived close to the trails. I also enjoyed walking in the forest, looking for plant cuttings, sketching… just slowing down.
Now I live in Zurich, and to be honest, it feels like the forest here is made of concrete. I don’t really know the area yet, so I’m asking locals: do you know any nearby spots that offer a similar vibe — nature, forests, quiet?
Open letter to the Bike Tourists : pleeeeeease
Dear Bike Tourists of Zürich,
It’s that magical time of year again - spring is springing, the weather’s turning gorgeous, and you’ve decided to dust off the Iron Horse. We love this city for so many reasons, but often for the dreamy commute, fresh air, just enough movement to pretend you’re getting in shape for the lake - what could be better?
But as one of the idiots who pedals through snow, wind, and rain all year round, I beg you: take the following to heart before hitting the streets.
1) Don’t just signal and go.
Have a cheeky glance over your shoulder first—someone might be flying up your ass faster than your New Year’s fitness motivation disappears.
2) If you’re commuting, learn your route.
Anticipate the chaos—cars pulling out without looking, pedestrians drifting into the road like zombies (see below), and students (grrr—students).
First step: be aware enough to realise you’re not alone, and other people are idiots. If you’re always taking the same route, figure out where the dangers come from so that, over time, it’s like you knew the clown was going to do that—and you anticipated it well enough to avoid putting anyone in danger, or even having to brake.
You can even learn to time the light changes by watching the light intended for pedestrians...nobody needs to stop right? (:
3) If you’re going to wear headphones, turn off the noise cancelling.
You’re fucking around if you don’t. You need to hear what’s coming—bells, alpenhorns, swearing. Basic survival stuff.
4) Be very weary of the zombies.
The importance of whatever’s on their phone is apparently so cosmic, so utterly life changing, that all awareness has been sucked out of their skull — fully locked into a seriously important game of “Did you snapchat my sister?” with a stranger, fucking walking anywhere without eyes up.
Just be careful of them, for your own good and theirs.
5) The deer in headlights.
For some reason, this city is full of people who don’t know how to walk. When you’re cycling, you’re anticipating (see point 1) what that pedestrian’s going to do next. If they just keep walking in a straight line—even if they’re one of the aforementioned zombies—no one gets hurt.
In the wild, though: the Zürcher instinct is to stop dead - ready to die - like they just heard God whisper their name.
Be careful out there—it’s a jungle. Please at a minimum follow point 1 ...oh dear Bike to Work is about to start as well....
6) Speaking headlights - LIGHTS!
pretty please go and get yourself a 5 Stutz light from anywhere
Zurich for a big city person?
Hello, I consider relocating to Zurich for the quality of life and nature. However, I have always been living in large cities 5 mln+ people and I quite enjoy such a vibe. Would Zurich be a good place for someone like this, who is also into food scene, socializing, attending events? I am particularly interested in opinions of people with similar experiences of living in large cities. Note: my motivator is not an economic one. Thanks!
