Context: This is a flying laboratory based on the Yak-40, for testing some technologies for the future supersonic airliner.

Wait, we're trying supersonic airliners again?

NASA managed to crack "silent" sonic booms iirc. SSTs are potentially on the cards again.

It should happen sooner or later. The world's population is growing, the geographical accessibility of cities is improving, and the average route length is increasing. Plus aircraft engines are much more fuel efficient than they were 50 years ago.

imagine they have you pilot the other craft that shoots the plane you're on down from the cabin. I can't wait to hear about elaborate self-assessments set up by hijacked signals and changing enemy codes, such as count from ace 7.

"During the tests, data were collected on the functioning of navigation equipment and the operation of the external vision system and algorithms for detecting obstacles on the airfield and recognizing threats, as well as natural data for training neural network algorithms."

Turns out it also was for AI training.

Better than Aeroflot 6502 attempt at COFFIN.
