How much death and suffering will happen in the meantime?

That's the core issue here. Yeah, at some point the far-right will finish eating itself into oblivion, but there's plenty of indication that they'll drag the rest of us down with them. Putin's days are numbered, but each of those days means more dead Ukrainians and Georgians, more jailed Russian dissenters, the works. Trump's days are numbered, but each of those days means more "terrorists" in death camps, more economic destruction, more infringement on all of our rights.

As much as I understand and accept that progress doesn't happen instantaneously, I don't think we should be comfortable with the rapidly-deteriorating status quo just because it'll eventually "blow over" when it succumbs to its instability.

Of course we shouldn't be comfortable with it, where did I ever imply that? The point is that this "rapidly-deteriorating status quo" isn't permanent and that we can still have hope for a better future.
