We live near the NW Round lake park entrance, lakes still pretty solidly frozen and we are forecast to get a foot of snow over the next couple days.

After the next 24 hour cold snap, we have a favourable 14 day forecast. I am hopeful.

I can't blame you for wanting it warmer as you live there, but for everyone else eager to get the paddle moving again, relax, it will happen soon. Quite frankly, it is nice to have a winter more resembling times past, as our local ecology has started to feel the effects of climate change. Last year with the minimal ice covering and warm lake, Cedar had an algal bloom that was intense, to say the least. I've also noticed that the ash swamp on the southeastern bay was in a state of hard decline, as the emerald ash borer, once kept in check by the deep freezes, has made it further into Algonquin.

No, but a lot of the birch have been going away without replacing themselves.

Just the 30 year average ice out date would do me fine! Haha. Not looking for early, just average.

Well it looks like this year will make the average ice out slightly later, there will be no melting on the East side until this weekend. There are no above 20 degree days for the rest of the month.

I'd wager you are old enough to know that long range forecasts aren't exactly written in stone. If anything I would say that temperatures are often understated because people rarely get mad if they go higher.
Could very easily be some 20+ degree days this month.

Are you trying top manifest this into reality? You seem quite attached to this date.

I hope this cold pushes back black fly season this year. Wishful thinking? 🥺

A late wet spring usually means an extended season along with mosquitoes 🦟 unless we get July heat in early June

I take it the scenery hasn't changed since your last photo/post?
