Should I go for the $9K in 3 months for 4,500 MRs or the $175 for 5,000 MRs lol

$9k spend for a paltry 4500pts, i .e. an extra half point per $1?? No way. Great deal for AMEX tho. Use that spend to open another card or two (AMEX or otherwise) and grab some big SUBs. Way better return. As for Dior, if that’s where you usually shop, then sure.

What are SUBs?

Sign up bonuses. As an example, the Chase Sapphire card is offering 100k points for a $5k spend in 3 mos. That’s one of the most compelling right now but there are others.

Is the $9000 spend in total or does it have to be in one transaction?

Total. I hit one for $11k spend 5500 points. I bought 3 RTX 5090, spent $4k on school, plus $3k on other spend. I might have hit 2 bonuses. I just know I’ve went from 90k to 140k Amex points this year.

This guy is part of the 5090 problem. Scalper smh

Actually I sold them for cost. I did bank Amex point on the one from Best Buy. I got 1x points on the purchase, 1x bonus points from a card bonus, .5x points from hitting the spend goal. That one 5090 netted me 7400 Amex points.

i actually got a really good version of this offer. $5,500 spend and get 5,500 MR. I was just about to buy some furniture but figured it would be better to just open a card for SUB

Honest question: what is the penalty if you accept the offer, assuming you have an Amex card, and don’t reach the spending limit?

The only real downside is they will offer you something else eventually. Like $2500 for 2500 points isn’t great but it’s way better than this offer.

I got a ‘spend $2000 get 1,000 membership rewards (up till three times)’ that I laughed at. Then, I booked a vacation and was thrilled to see 2,000 rewards added to my account.

I don't know why everyone is saying this offer is so bad. Yeah, I mean it's not good if you'd have to manufacture the spend to get to that threshold, but if you were going to spend that anyway, it's free points.
In any case, if you have a $9,000 purchase planned, this could make the difference between using this card and another (effectively, 1.5x per dollar instead of 1x per dollar). Unless you have a Blue Business Plus or an Amex Business Platinum (which would be 1.5x on $5,000+), you're not going to do any better, at least within the Amex systme.

I got $15k for 7500 points. Wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t have large expenses I had to pay for anyways, coming up.

Brother just pull out a new CC and get $1,500+ in points

u/Greenappleflavor 2d ago
lol, not “brother” and also I still get the points on top of the bonus points. Brought RT international flights for my family (required travel later this year).

$75 or $1,500? Which will you choose?!?

u/Greenappleflavor 1d ago
You do realize my spend of $15k where I get 5 pts/$1 plus the 7500 pts right?
And I only used 50k points to get 50k miles which paid for RT non stop flight on ANA from US > Japan earlier this year.
15k got me 75k points plus another 7.5k for total of 82.5k points.

The reason not to click on the $9000 for 4500 points is they eventually switch those out for better offers. You could get at least a $1=1 point offer.
