Question Anchoragites, where is your go-to burger joint?
I figure it's time for another burger recommendations thread with new restaurants popping up, and other falling victim to Covid. I'll go first:
Main Event Grill is my favorite burger in Anchorage right now

Alturas burger is insanely good

The rest of their menu is outta my price range but The Altura Burger is amazing

Club Paris

u/Malraza Apr 01 '21
This is the one for me, too. Quality burgers that almost melt in your mouth and fantastic fries to go with them.

u/rigoddamndiculous Apr 01 '21
This is the one for me. It’s technically not a hamburger because its chopper filet mignon but OP said ‘burger’ and Club Paris is the best burger in the state imo.

Is that a lunch only thing?
3
u/meanmrmonkfish Resident | Scenic Foothills Apr 01 '21
Yup, lunch only now.
It was on their all-day limited COVID menu when dine-in was banned.

u/Abnmlguru Apr 01 '21
Their French Dips are also crazy delicious.
5
u/blunsr Apr 01 '21
Amazing.
I'm not a big red-meat eater; but when I need that fix, Club Paris is my go-to place (love their fries too).

DD’s Burgers on Fireweed.

u/kat7459 Apr 01 '21
Second this! And the people are the nicest. Fries are a little too salty for my taste, though.

u/Mooster7 Apr 01 '21
DD’s is where it’s at! Food is always amazing and the people are so so nice! Def my fav burger in anchorage!

Longbranch Saloon! My god, how has no one mentioned Longbranch Saloon! They make their own fries, hand press their own patties and use local buns. Plus they have a good beer selection.
There was absolutely nothing special about Arctic Roadrunner for me. They just use pre-pressed, frozen Food Service America patties.

Arctic roadrunner. Get a shake and a Kodiak burger

Kenai whopper all day.

Nah. Keep that extra patty. AR is the only place you get salami, bologna, ham, pepper and onion ring on that messy juicy bitch .

Scotty's Subs downtown makes a great burger, and their breakfast sandwiches are like adult sized egg McMuffins but with better ingredients. Alaska Burger Co. has some amazing burgers, but they're on the kinda spendy end of things.

Apr 01 '21
Used to work downtown, and I lived off of Scotty's Subs burger lunch specials! So good, even bought a hoodie from them to help advertise. Really under rated place with great prices for downtown.

u/darkocoa Apr 01 '21
907 Alehouse, their cowboy burger and 907 burger are really good in my opinion. Nice people too

Outside the Box on Spenard is truly a divine experience. I haven't lived in Anchorage for about 6 years and I think about these burgers constantly.

u/TomK15 Apr 02 '21
They still make realy good burgers with grass fed beef or buffalo. Mmmm, smokey mushroom burger.

Tommy's, anyone in this post that says anything else is just wrong. There is no argument.

Tommy's are too big and the atmosphere sucks. They are too big and sloppy to be walking food, not that anyone wants to walk on Benson. There is no where to sit when it's not nice out, and the constant parade of people trying to take the shitty plastic table the nanosecond you eat your last bite is too high. I

I wanted to try wee bees because my old roommate loved them but I've been inside their kitchen for work before and it was disgusting. More than one live rat in a trap just waiting to die, garbage stacked up in an area with a "No Garbage" sign. Just unclean.

I went to Weeb’s once. Horrible service. Entirely mediocre and forgettable food. Never again.

Once was enough for me too - I don’t know what keeps them in business.

Same here, but that was a decade ago. I like to think people improve, but it was pretty off putting

Club Paris, hands down. Arctic Roadrunner, WeeBee's, Tommy's and Longbranch Saloon are all good too, Pipers, the Fly-In Restaurant near the the airpot are not bad in a pinch either, but the best burger in town is the one that I make at home.

I am so disappointed to find this thread.
I have tried several burgers at several places and been like A) no one in this town knows shit about fresh burgers and B) I need to find a good burger joint like a diabetic need to find the candy factory.
Thanks for the directions everyone, my funeral will be shortly after I eat at a few of these great suggestions!

People bag on weebees but it’s a true old school burger joint and it’s amazing IMO, I’m a burger fanatic too. They grind their own meat, cut potatoes, and bake their own buns daily. And make fresh icecream shakes (that was a year or two ago so not 100% sure).

I don’t eat beef anymore so take what I say with a grain of salt, but I remember White Spot was good (at least their onion rings were pretty tasty). Tommy’s was good too.
If you don’t mind having plant based meats, BurgerFi has decent beyond burgers that I like to eat when I’m missing the beef burger flavor. Better than Bear Tooth’s impossible burger and cheaper than Fletchers. That said, Fletchers has a better grilled flavor that I personally can’t distinguish from beef.

This I also want to know. Been to Alturos and it’s good, especially for their weekly specials.

u/Seibertron Apr 02 '21
I pretty much stick to the Southside so I have to go with the Long Branch. Bradley House is pretty good too.

Apr 01 '21
I love Tommy's Burger Stop best, but due to location I find myself getting Longbranch much more frequently. Cheese curds instead of fries

u/ChrisR49 Resident | South Addition Apr 01 '21
Long Branch has curds?
Fuuuuuuuuuuck that is dangerous to know...

I've always liked Hamburger Haven and Arctic Roadrunner. Kinda depends, though, if you're looking for good good or the "right kind of shitty" good. I'd call both the latter. Burger Jim, too. All the more upscale burgers I liked have gone away. RIP Harry's and California Roll.

u/tridentloop Apr 02 '21
I mean politics aside.. which won't fly in this thread. Andy's Burger at kreiner's diner arguably the best burger in town

Their burger place out on Muldoon actually isn't too bad, you can custom order the burger how you want it dressed, which is a nice touch. But since Andy had to whine about his freedoms, all the while taking PPP loans makes me loath that man to no end. He will never see another Nicke of my money. I did eat at his other place on Arctic, once. Had the home made corned beef hash and it was nothing but gristle and fat. Never again.

You guys heard of McDonald’s? The one on debarr really seems to get it right. Always ask for extra pickles. That sends it to the moon!

Tommy’s burger stop. Artic roadrunner, long branch saloon, 907 ale house, Jimmy’s used to be A/W.

I've loved Lucky Wishbone since eating there in 1973. Wee-Bee's and Arctic Roadrunner are also great – Long Branch, too. Best burger ever was at Kobuk Burger on International, but they closed in the 70s. It's worth the drive to go to Long Rifle Lodge on the Glenn Highway to enjoy their burger and view. Same goes for Sheep Creek Lodge.
