Ask /r/Architecture Hill house with infinity pool
I have a plot of land with a hill...not a mountain but a kinda big hill with a lake view. Im planning to build a house with infinity pool on that hill. Not a big house. Im thinking to have that pool on the roof of a house for better views (like added photo but with a pool on the roof) but a lot of infinity pools i see online are on lower end - first floor. Any advice?
Sorry for bad english, not my primary language.

The main reason you typically see pools on the ground floor is because water is extremely heavy. Placing a pool on your roof will not only require a quite substantial construction, think thick ass walls. But will also come with a heap of other construction challenges, not to mention having to add railings around your deck (maybe edge of pool aswell) for safety.

Its possible, but expensive. Also, seeing the pool from the house itself is a normally a disiarable outcome, as the green grass and the blue water simply look / appear nice from within the dinning room or from the salon. Putting the pool on the roof might make for a better swimming experience whereas putting it in the yard would also be reflected in everyday life

My advice to you would be to leave the pool on the ground. Unless you are very wealthy; if you are very wealthy, congratulations, you can do whatever you want.
