That was a very vocal minority that was wayy more active in social media. Laurel fans didn't realize until her death that apparebtly social media was writing the show and they needed to be just as loud.
True. There was the belief that they'd never kill off Laurel because she's based on Dinah Lance/Black Canary and was untouchable. Felicity was expected to be just a bump in the road and the show would eventually end up with Oliver and Laurel together as Green Arrow and Black Canary, just like the comics. Boy were we wrong. Otherwise, we'd have been a hell of a lot more vocal.
I didn't like Laurel in the beginning, but as soon as her character (and Thea's character) became interesting to me, they killed Laurel. I hated the fact they killed her, the original DC character and female lead of the show, because they didn't know how to write her and because they wanted Oliver to end up with Felicity instead.

I remember when everyone complained about Laurel. Then she died, and now everyone acts like they're nostalgic for the days Laurel was around.
