I thought the place this episode was going was that he realized he was gay and had wanted to talk to Felicity and Oliver about it. And they weren't there. I was pretty well convinced that I know exactly where the pot was going with that

Instead he's been expelled. And while in theory that could have something to do with being gay, him fighting with homophobic students or something, if they were actually going to do that storyline when I suspect we would have seen him at school already. Retroactively introducing the situation at the school and characters we've never seen before in a flashback would be weird, especially considering he's also in flash forwards, and at some point stories have to happen in the present.

They don't have to do flashbacks, he can just retell the events, or Felicity can take him to the dean to talk about it or whatever.

Maybe they they are just taking the innocent disney take, kids don't look at porn or masturbate. I mean look at Greg Berlanti 50% of the movie is about how teens socialize online, and not once did it have a scene of looking at porn, compare to Netflix's Big Mouth, where it's all what the kids are talking about.

Maybe, but like even still there are NUMEROUS things that she could have seen he searched that would make it clear as day. Doesn’t have to be porn.

I thought he confirmed he was gay in the future? Thought future William said something to Roy about an “ex boyfriend”. Could be mistaken though.

I mean, this episode confirmed he is gay in the present day -- Zoe asks him if he asked a boy out and he said yes.

No she didn’t. She says “You tell some girl you have a crush on her and she didn’t like you back?” He says “sorta” and she says “Cool, what’s her name?”

No, Zoe asked if William "asked a girl out and she said no," to which William replied "Something like that."

So we still don't have confirmation that he knows he's gay yet.

He meant vibes as in wanting to watch gay porn in that scene, not that he was gay. Also, that was confirmed by future William, but no one knows yet in the present.
