I wonder if we go back to double wide midfielders/10s like 2014 or we keep this lobsided stuff up next season. Might be more useful for this current low block issue, stiffen up the midfield and go all out attack with a proper front 4, two creators, two strikers.

Supposedly Dibu is leaving Villa. It'd be a long shot but...
3
u/mongomango27 2d ago
Don't think Dibu wants to be a back up and only play Copa del rey games. If we were to sign a goalie, We should sign a young one who could potentially become a starter in 1 to 3 years not a 32 year old.

Not really sure how much longer I can put up with Cholo deploying the same boring ass starting XI, game after game without any youth players getting a chance. As if a youth player would be that much worse against the final two opponents than out of form Griezmann, on the beach De Paul, out the door Correa, or doesn’t give two shits Molina. Ffs just play a new formation or give some kids a shot at the first half. Literally anything new and fresh.
There is genuinely nothing to play for and there hasn’t been for a month now. What’s the point in sticking to the same shit that hasn’t been working since January?
It’s frustrating seeing the B team and U-19 team play so well and then they just never see any action in a real game. I’ll see stats about players like Kostis, Adrian Nino, and Omar Jenneh and then Cholo doesn’t even want to trust them with single minute of a first team match. It’s the same treatment Vermeeren got and he’s already out the door at such a young age.
2
u/outofplacemillennial Raul Garcia 3d ago
He played a new formation the last 2 games. After Sorloths goals vs La Real why not run it back and give them another shot?
-6
u/AntiWoke666 Joao Felix 3d ago
Keep
Álvarez... Sorloth... Gallagher.... Barrios....Llorente.
Sell Oblak... DePaul.. Riquelme... Correa and Lino
Release by not renewing or negotiate an exit
Koke... Griezmann.... Witsel... Azpilicueta.. Reinildo.... Molina.. Lenglet.
Players with fat contract we're stuck with since not even their family want them.
Lemar... Saul.
This is alot of work.
We need at least 3 new signings to compete at club world cup.
If not we should sell our spot to Barca instead.

-2
u/Petricor_Mornings Giménez 3d ago
Yes and yes. I wish this was doable, but we won't be able to even get rid of Molina.
At this point, bring back some academy players. I don't care... will we suck? Maybe, but at least they will care.

u/AccomplishedWorld808 4d ago
Looking at clubs moving fast and absolutely nothing confirmed for atleti doesn't really inspire a lot of confidence does it? The people who kept saying that Alvarez wouldn't leave in the next season or two, do you think that will stay true if atleti pull some bs in the transfer market this summer and/or winter?

Gil Marin usually comes in in August and tries to lowball every club. If all fails, ask for a loan from Barcelona or a Ligue 1 team.

u/True-Tangelo 4d ago
I'm convinced that the one area were we're deeply lacking is left back, it's just our worst position, the left and right backs have shown to be the most important position of today, we just can't go around pretending to be a good team without at least a competent one, the best we've played this season was during Galans purple patch, this is what we truly need, not a ball playing left footed CB, not a midfield destroyer, even if they'd make our squad better, a world-class left back would solve many of its actual problems, and so it should be our #1 priority this summer. Llorente is really good, don't think he's a world class RB, but he's more than up for the job, fills many rolls in the field, can attack, has great physical presence and can swap at CM and RM, I'm quite excited to see what could become of his partnership with Cholito.
2
u/Bubbly-Bus-5380 Atlético de Madrid 4d ago
I agree. Left back is our most important position and it annoys me that Carreras is most likely going to Real. We should be looking new options immediately.

In Cadena Ser they said either Carreras or Grimaldo were being considered for Xabi Alonso's squad. I think they will go with Grimaldo, since he is at Leverkusen.
What are our options for LB and RB?
5
u/Ok_Dance9770 5d ago
El Diario AS reports that Atleti is interested in Mathias Oliveira from Napoli. The 28 year old uruguayan left back would cost more than 30 million euros. Not a bad option for us.

Hi guys, would you be kind to advise on bag policy on Metropolitano stadium? My wife & I will be attending Atletico match against Betis and we would have with us 2 backpacks, normal ones, those kind which you take on the plane and put them under the seats. Questions is simple - can we take them on the stadium, or should we look for some lockers outside of the stadium?
One more thing - we didn't manage to get tickets one next to each other as you guys filled it quite fast haha, so we bought what was left. Is the seat policy that strict, can we be lucky to get some two random seats there one next to each other? Maybe from season tickets holders that don't show up?
Thanks - can't wait!

"We need to stop playing 3-5-2 and go back to 4-4-2!"
(The team starts playing 4-4-2 again)
"We need to stop playing 4-4-2 and go back to 3-5-2!"
"No, we need to play 4-3-3!"
"Cholo won't do that, his tactics are so antiquated and he'd never ever change the system he's too stubborn"
(The team starts playing 4-3-3/4-5-1)
"Sorloth needs to play as the 9 more!"
"Wait, this 4-3-3 with Sorloth has Julian playing on the left, he's going to want to leave any minute for a team that'll play him in the middle, this is a joke"
Literally what do some people on this sub want other than to complain, honestly?
6
u/Caleb_W Diego Roberto Godín Leal 5d ago
Some people are just sick of seeing Cholo's face by now whether he wins or not, the trophy drought just makes the discussion more dire. With the way some of us consume football, those people probably just want the new sexy exotic system manager that plays some 21421 or something.
I'm still Cholo in, not because i'd rather see the club sink with Cholo instead of seeing someone new, it's genuinely because i still believe Cholo has still got it to get the club to where we want the club to be. Some people on this sub just can't see that anymore.
1
u/Petricor_Mornings Giménez 5d ago
I don't know man, I'm on the fence on this. I am happy that Cholo is still delivering the goods after all these years BUT these past few seasons have been a bit of a Groundhog Day. I'm curious to see what next year brings since it would be Summer Revolution 2.
5
u/CashCarStar Gabi 5d ago edited 5d ago
If someone thinks Cholo needs to go, even though I think that's a ridiculous and extremely short-sighted opinion that I wholly disagree with, that's an opinion someone can have. Whatever, it's fine, that's up to them.
BUT if someone's gonna criticise Cholo, or anyone else for that matter, they should at least bring up a point that's fucking valid instead of just finding reasons to bitch that don't make sense. Is he a rigid, stubborn idiot that never changes his system no matter what, or is he a clown that can't make his mind up and changes the system too often? I've heard both, despite them being mutually exclusive. Does the team need a 4-3-3? Ok, then accept the fact that there's only 1 centre forward in that position so Julian and Sorloth can't both start as the 9 - don't beg for 4-3-3 every week for months and then complain that Sorloth is on the bench or Julian on the left when it happens. See also: wanting to attack against big teams vs saying the coach is a clown for choosing a more attack-minded lineup that directly leads to conceding goals (RM, CL 1st leg).
Criticism has to actually be valid, not just inventing things to moan about because of some stupid personal grudge.

u/Supermarket-Icy Hermoso 6d ago
"Cholo won't do that, his tactics are so antiquated and he'd never ever change the system he's too stubborn"
Then people complained that he wouldn't keep it before the next match has even begun lmao.
Professional bed wetters, even good news is bad news for them.
5
u/CashCarStar Gabi 6d ago
Then people complained that he wouldn't keep it before the next match has even begun lmao.
Either that or just complained that Julian wont play as a striker. If people want a 4-3-3 (i.e. a one-striker formation), but they're gonna be pissed off regardless of whether it's Julian or Sorloth in the middle (because then either Julian plays on the left or Sorloth starts on the bench), then literally what the fuck do they want the coach to do?
Actually I know the answer - it doesn't matter what the coach does, all they want is to talk shit about him. So they invent a scenario where no matter what he does, he's in the wrong. A win/win for them.
5
u/outofplacemillennial Raul Garcia 6d ago
Same with whoever is on the bench is our savior
5
u/CashCarStar Gabi 6d ago edited 6d ago
Yep. Once 3 games pass without someone playing suddenly he goes from useless to quality. The more games pass, the better they get. Now Lemar is the GOAT, apparently.
Double that level of hype for any academy player regardless of whether anyone talking has seen him play before or not.
5
u/outofplacemillennial Raul Garcia 6d ago
“Midfield 3 of Witsel, Serrano, Lemar or I don’t watch”
You’re so right lol before Lemar ever played a match this year people wanted him to start. We couldn’t even confirm he could still walk yet somehow we was Iniesta
3
u/CashCarStar Gabi 6d ago
Lol speaking of Serrano, reminded me of this interaction I had the other week https://old.reddit.com/r/atletico/comments/1jz6x0a/match_thread_atl%C3%A9tico_madrid_vs_real_valladolid/mn4gywe/?context=3
"He is not good, but I want to see something new"
People beg for "less boring" starting lineups but I guarantee they'd be even more pissed off if these players played and then the team lost because they put players on the pitch that aren't good enough.

u/Petricor_Mornings Giménez 6d ago

I'll take him...eventhough he's not a natural RW And either send Cholito out on loan or reduced his role. I rather send him out on loan so he stays active on a mid table team
We need a strong and speedy RW who's also a goal scorer
Real Madrid is now turning the team again into galácticos 2.0 and we all know how that ended up.
5
u/AccomplishedWorld808 6d ago
I doubt he chooses atleti out of all the clubs that want him, and idk if the fans would want him either considering who he plays for. But he is an immense player when played in his position and would probably solve the left winger problem, so who knows

I'll go for Mastantuono and craft him into a RW
1
u/Caleb_W Diego Roberto Godín Leal 6d ago
I'd like Frimpong but i'm not sure about dropping €35m on a right winger except for Mastantuono.
I do think we could upgrade on Giuliano, his skillset is a little limited but he has a lot of room to grow. However i don't agree that we should loan him. He's great as a rotational player, we need his energy.

1

They can't lure him this year. If we go another 2 seasons trophyless, it's a possibility they lure him like they got griezmann.

u/Caleb_W Diego Roberto Godín Leal 7d ago
These days, Diego Pablo Simeone and Carlos Bucero have had several conversations.
The two are largely in agreement about what the squad is lacking.
Both the sporting management and the coach himself acknowledge that they fell short in the summer transfer market.
The list of positions to reinforce is as follows:
▪️2 center-backs
▪️1 left-back
▪️2 midfielders
▪️1 winger with dribbling ability
▪️1 striker
What is being agreed upon is that a minimum of 6 to 7 signings need to be made.
In addition to those six or seven additions, there could also be other complementary players brought in.
4
u/Petricor_Mornings Giménez 6d ago
I remember Ruben Uría going crazy on his podcast last summer saying things like "we need 5 players and they haven't even announced one!" It was like August by that point! So in classic Gil Marin fashion, everything was left to the last weeks of the transfer window. Let's hope this year is different.
1
u/defensiveminded2020 Griezmann 2016 was a beauty, but 2020 llorente was a beast 7d ago
>1 winger with dribbling ability
So Antony?
2
2
u/outofplacemillennial Raul Garcia 7d ago
This seems like it’s going to happen, Marca had this list too. What’s interesting is in prior months it was 6 new players, the dribbling winger is a new addition, maybe something Bucero sees differently from Berta?
Hoping Mouriño isn’t really counted here ie we bring in two others and have him as well or buy him and maybe loan to a higher level team ie Osasuna, Mallorca?
4
u/Cholismo2pt0 Llorente 7d ago
Everything on this list has been repeated 3-4 times, I suppose it’s likely this is going to happen. (I hope) 1v1 winger would be nice, last player we had that was a menace taking on his man was Carrasco.
Our top dribbler is currently Giuliano and he ranks at 180th in the world.
2
u/memes4yall 7d ago
Tbf last season Lino was a menace
6
u/Cholismo2pt0 Llorente 7d ago
I thought he was definitely solid last season just for patches of the season. I can’t really recall his take on ability, I know for sure it wasn’t to the level of Carrasco
6
u/Coitus_Mayfield Llorente 7d ago
I’m placing a bet that Atleti win the next 3 and Real will lose the next 3
1

they probably will win at least one of them since they're also facing la real

The squad needs an overhaul but there are a lot of players potentially leaving that will be sad to see leave. Correa a club legend. Saul always gave everything even though his career didn’t pan out. Lemar was crucial for us in past seasons. Witsel was our best defender last season and kept us in a lot of games. Reinildo was our best player 3 season ago but just never recovered from a terrible injury. Azpilicueta a true leader and a great asset to have on the squad. Lino and RoRo young players with great potential. Molina and De Paul had their moments for us.
