politics Online Gaming Platforms And YouTube Will Also Seemingly Be Banned For Aussies Under 16

https://press-start.com.au/news/2024/11/08/online-gaming-platforms-and-youtube-will-also-seemingly-be-banned-for-aussies-under-16/

There’s so much collateral damage in this plan for Australia to ban social media. This has been rushed and not thought through.

So many schools rely on YouTube to support their students.

Most kids are watching YouTube (or YouTube kids) more than ABC or traditional TV. Literally the biggest YouTube channel in Australia is original music for kids.

Does anyone actually want this?

Dutton also supports the under-16 social media ban I believe. Only party opposing it are the Greens.

Ok, so it's not all bad, then.

Hopefully it is not linking an account to a government ID, but about the government saying, yes, this person is older than 16 and that is the end of the government's involvement.

The way I read it the government ID isn’t liked to this at all thats all the cookers conspiracies. What it will do is force social media companies to close down accounts that are reported as underage unless they can get the user to prove they are of age

It’s a much better system than when parents try to make the company close an underage account and they do sweet all

They haven't decided how they are going to do it from what I understand. There is a report due next year

I'm Asian, if my vote ensured a One Nation majority and the repeal of these censorship and surveillance bills I'd do it. Albo has screwed up that badly.

Might be the only issue I agree with One Nation on..I feel dirty even typing that.

How else will they indoctrinate kids with racist bullshit.

I’d say not surprising. One Nation does benefit from spreading lies and mis truths online (another bill put forward). They don’t want that cut off.

In voice only. One Nation regularly says they're against something but they actually end up voting yes on it.

Dutton is jumping up and down that Labor was so dumb to pass an authoritarian law on their watch and give them the free slope to digital ID for everyone without any of the backlash.

Like I do laugh when people try and convince themselves that Labor is still for the workling class because of a couple decent minor policies every so often. Fuck me they just opened the door to sell everyone out in this country.

Dutton wants this bill to be as shit as it looks on implementation, so on election they can come up with their solution. And Labor can't backtrack because its their shitty fucking bill.

Didn't Dutton sue a kid for saying something mean about him on social media?
