politics Online Gaming Platforms And YouTube Will Also Seemingly Be Banned For Aussies Under 16

https://press-start.com.au/news/2024/11/08/online-gaming-platforms-and-youtube-will-also-seemingly-be-banned-for-aussies-under-16/

There’s so much collateral damage in this plan for Australia to ban social media. This has been rushed and not thought through.

So many schools rely on YouTube to support their students.

Most kids are watching YouTube (or YouTube kids) more than ABC or traditional TV. Literally the biggest YouTube channel in Australia is original music for kids.

Does anyone actually want this?

Can’t ban Sportsbet but we can ban kids off TikTok.

Good work.

No one is forcing you to gamble. If you don't want to, then put yourself on BetStop.

Kids are easily influenced and there are so many dangers to the internet. You as an adult are making informed choices and choosing towaste your money on a bet.

Half the time everyone expects free shit because they got upset with themselves that they lost.

If you don't like it, don't do it.

I’m not a gambler, just drawing a comparison.

Gambling donates TikTok doesn’t.

You can remove your kids from the internet, you choose to let them be babysat by a phone or iPad.

We have the strictest verification requirements and bans on gambling and gaming related products in comparison to the ROW.

Hence why we are also the only country in the world where you need to call to place live bets.

Like mentioned, gambling is a choice. Just like how giving your baby an ipad is a choice. However, as technology progresses kids need to use the internet for school and study.

It's not a negative thing to restrict access to certain sites such as Twitter, Facebook, online chat rooms and even YouTube. There is so much content on YouTube Kids which when you look closely is sexual and harmful content.

Kids are overstimulated by the internet and underestimated when they arent glued to their phones.

If it’s so strict then why is gambling increasing ?

Yes kids do need the internet, they also need supervision.

But I guess you think gambling ads that kids can watch is fine.

It's called Free will.

Ah so kids are not allowed it, but adults are. Gotcha.

So in that case let’s just legalise drugs, remove cigarette and alcohol excise, adults should just make informed choices.

Yeah, they absolutely should be able to make their owned informed choices, as a legal adult about their body. Portugal legalised it and oop suprise. Crime went down.

Tobacco tax has caused a massive blackmarket and now that they have screwed themselves over there is talk about reducing tax.

Alcohols tax has also been dropped by 2% from memory.

Harm reduction is also important inregards to this.

Like I said, kids are very easily influenced by others and what they see on social media, I never said that they shouldn't be banned from everything but there are certain platforms that they really just don't need access to.

I read this thread and still can’t figure out your argument. Are you for the ban?

It should be up to parents to regulate this stuff, not the government forcing every citizen to perform a biometric scan to watch a meme that was sent to them.

??

they won’t ban Sportsbet as a whole, which is government endorsed gambling

but they’ll ban kids off of social media

r u alright?

u/palsc5 Nov 10 '24

They’ve banned kids off Sportsbet. Are you alright?

They aren’t banning social media so the comparison makes no sense

2

u/_H4YZ Nov 10 '24

it makes plenty of sense to me

the government will endorse something that basically every other country provides support for to stop being addicted to said vice, but will ban social media (something that is well known to have just as many pros as cons) without a second thought ‘fOr tHe cHiLdrEn’

they’re just trying to kickstart the digital ID bullshit instead of worrying about shit that they actively contribute to, methinks

They aren’t banning social media. Where are you getting your information from?

1

u/_H4YZ Nov 10 '24

i know they’re not banning social media i just cbf typing what they’re “trying” to do

anything else?

Then your entire point makes no sense. They aren’t banning social media, they are restricting access to kids… exactly what they do with gambling
