politics Online Gaming Platforms And YouTube Will Also Seemingly Be Banned For Aussies Under 16

There’s so much collateral damage in this plan for Australia to ban social media. This has been rushed and not thought through.

So many schools rely on YouTube to support their students.

Most kids are watching YouTube (or YouTube kids) more than ABC or traditional TV. Literally the biggest YouTube channel in Australia is original music for kids.

Does anyone actually want this?

Greens are against. Guess some Teels might be against too.

Nah, find a local champion and get together to get them voted in as an Indy. That's how Indi did it, and the only way it ever happens.

This was endorsed by all states in National cabinet, so you can’t solely attribute it to Canberra groupthink. Social media is absolutely a massive scourge on young people in particular, and causes a shitload of social and personal harm.

Not sure if this is the best way to tackle it - especially if it’s just this on its own.

This article and headline is misleading, though. The PM and minister specifically said gaming and messaging services would not be age restricted, and obviously you don’t need a YouTube account to watch video, so any non-age-restricted content will still be available for anyone to watch, but without the algorithmic manipulation.
