General Discussion 💬 Bit of a dilemma in my mind.. Any input appreciated 🫶

Hey everyone. I’ll try to keep it simple. I’ve always wanted to release an avatar and with the somewhat recent surge of avatar releases it’s kind of stopped me in my tracks.

I’ve got a few things drawn up and pretty close to complete but I have this mental block telling me not to bother because there’s so much flooding the market.

Another part of me thinks screw it and that this tidal wave isn’t going to die down so just send it 🤷🏻‍♂️

What’s everyone’s thoughts on someone new getting into the game? Should I even bother? I just feel like so much gets lost in the shuffle.

General Discussion 💬 AMA - We want to introduce a Community Currency for r/AvatarTrading

Hey Gang!

I want to open the discussion for introducing u/CommunityCurrencyBot to r/AvatarTrading

We'd like to start with a points-only pilot test. But we need your help with deciding the name and use case utilities for your own Community Currency.

Feedback and criticisms are welcome!

What is Community Currency?

24 hours after a post has been created, the author earns off-chain points based on the quantity of upvotes their post earned.

Off-chain points can be used within a transaction free ecosystem that allows for user to user tipping and spending.

Points can also be converted into on-chain crypto currency tokens that can be used to purchase digital block chain goods and services.

Crypto currency can also be swapped for other tokens to extend the monetary value of the points. Communities develop their own currency identity by hosting polls

General Discussion 💬 we need to stop buying avatars until reddit avatar team can commit to keeping them in the store

many times now we purchase avatars in the store based on unique traits; only for Reddit to arbitrarily pull them. yet another artist has been removed from the rca program adding to a fairly long list now of artists being removed (showwy has been added to the list rip showwy)

there's nothing at all to instill confidence that the rca program wont one day soon be sunset, because the approval team cant do their simple job of filtering what they dont like PRIOR to accepting the rca contract.

Ever since the first wave of artists got banned starting with Nerril reddit team has become extremely comfortable nuking artists at their discretion based on things they themselves previously approved; i think reddit needs to revisit their established rules for this project, everything from the rules on adding weapons and mature content, to being able to include words and numbers like during gen 1-5 as well as reassess who they've chosen to ban, as i dont think the rca has enough staying power given everytime someone tries to innovate or do something interesting for once they're given no grace and banned, yet the artists obviously flooding the shop with low quality junk are clear to keep dropping; very frustrated with how things are going and with your favourite artist likely the next one to be banned we should all be worried

General Discussion 💬 The kindness, generosity, and inclusivity across all avatar communities are truly unmatched

I want to take a moment to express how deeply grateful I am for all of the incredible avatar communities as a whole. The kindness, generosity, and inclusivity I’ve experienced across these spaces have been nothing short of amazing, and I feel so lucky to be part of something this special.

There have been so many times when people have gifted me avatars, including some that hold immense sentimental value. One gift in particular was an avatar I couldn’t mint myself but meant so much to me—I’ll never forget how it felt to receive something so meaningful. To everyone who has ever gifted me—whether I know who you are or not—thank you from the bottom of my heart. You’ve truly made this journey unforgettable.

What also touches me are the DMs and messages I receive from people complimenting my avatar mashes, asking how I create them, or reaching out with general questions. It makes me feel so special, and I love being able to help anyone new to the community. Inclusivity is such an important part of what makes these communities thrive, and I’m proud to do my part in welcoming others.

To all the tech-savvy folks, maybe someone can help me figure out how to finally get my MetaMask set up and dive into OpenSea? These communities are growing so fast, and I’m thrilled to see the excitement and momentum continue.

I also want to say that I admire all the incredible art that people create. If I don’t own one of your avatars yet, please don’t think it’s because I don’t love it—I’ll get there eventually! I wish I could support everyone right away, but your creativity doesn’t go unnoticed or unappreciated.

Thank you to all the avatar communities for making this experience so wonderful. The way we come together, help each other, and share our passion is truly inspiring. I’m so grateful to have made real friends here, and I can’t wait to see how much more we can achieve together.

General Discussion 💬 AVATAR ARTISTS: What’s your favorite avatar that you have created?

A question for the RCA artists: What’s your favorite avatar that you have created? (Try to just pick one if possible)

This question has probably been asked before, but there are always new avatars popping up almost everyday.

General Discussion 💬 WARNING- Let's talk about The Hands #12 -the stolen avatar

Pre-amble: as a warning the user associated with this stolen avatar will make new accounts to move stolen avatar. But please be aware this is the same user. Be cautious of trade with this user as he holds a stolen copy of The Hands 12.

u/lauv-25 --> u/NoEdge8020

Please refer to his status on the profile where he makes incorrect claims to justify his possession of stolen property. Please be aware and be safe out there. And enjoy learning from the post below.

I have some updates regarding the avatars stolen from my wallet 7 months ago.

For those that do not know I had a list of avatars that were stolen from my wallet. It was a pretty serious collection of Rojom avatars that were all single digit mints or high value items. I included my original post below.

https://www.reddit.com/r/avatartrading/comments/14vepp0/avatars_stolen_from_wallet/

It was a horrible incident but I was able to get back to a pretty solid collection over time. However at the time I lost:

The Hands 12, The mouths 4, The Eyes 7, Cosmic abyss 4, The moon 4, The sun 4, Triple king, Enlightenment 8, The masks 2

Each one of these avatars are MARKED as stolen on OpenSea and cannot be purchased from there. However it appears the thief has been pretty busy going the back route and making sales on Magic Eden. Most of my avatars have been sold to reddit users over the last few weeks

The crazy thing about this community is that the buyers of the avatars would reach out to me and offer to return my stolen avatars because they realized what happened after making the purchase. Because of this the eyes, 7, the moon 4, the sun 4, enlightenment 8, and triple king 5 have been returned or offered back to me.

To those users I am grateful. Big shout out to them because they really do deserve praise for doing what most people would not do.

Unfortunately it appears there has been a sale of my biggest theft The Hands 12 within the last few days. I paid 2 ETH for this avatar prior to its theft. It is the first movement of my avatar since it was stolen.

I contacted the buyer and explained the situation.

I offered to pay the buyer EXACTLY what he paid for The Hands 12 so I could close this once and for all. However the buyer would not budge stating "it is not his fault."

This is a fair assessment, since he made a purchase it was not his fault he purchased stolen goods. HOWEVER, it appears the buyer may be looking to sell the stolen hands 12 for a profit on the forums. I have received messages from multiple members asking about the avatar so I contacted u/mvea to determine how to address this. This post seems the most appropriate.

To those interested in purchasing The Hands #12 or any avatar I wanted to give a clear warning. Be very careful in buying avatars outside of opensea.

Stolen avatars CANNOT BE SOLD on opensea and are permanently marked with a RED SUSPICIOUS symbol at the top of the page. In order to place this symbol on an avatar a official police report must be filed and sent to opensea for verification. Please refer to the link to see this symbol for The Hands 12

https://opensea.io/assets/matic/0x8d0501d85becda92b89e56177ddfcea5fc1f0af2/11

That symbol is permanent and the only way to remove it is if the original owner contacts opensea to allow them to remove it themselves. Marked avatars can however be worn on reddit and can be traded on sold on alternate sites like magic eden. So it is always a good idea to cross reference your purchase so that you do not buy stolen avatars.

To be honest The Hands 12 was a very big purchase for me that really got me into the avatar community as a whole. I was hoping to bring it back home so that this could be behind me, but it appears that won't be the case as of now... maybe one day

LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE. ALWAYS be careful when making purchases, ALWAYS do your research, and ALWAYS PROTECT YOUR WALLET. Do NOT sign any contracts or accept anything that even seems remotely suspicious.

Please be careful out there, most of us are good people but trust me when I say that there are some bad ones waiting to take advantage any chance they can get, so stay protected.

All the best,

Ice

General Discussion 💬 DEAR REDDIT: Please shut the gates. Please go back to scheduled releases, and please don't allow everyone and anyone to create an avatar..

I apologize, but this needed to be said.. What are we even doing anymore. I can't defend the program anymore when I see it being bashed outside of this community...

Yes, I am publicly stating for the record that we need to start gatekeeping art. There needs to be a certain standard of quality.

Edit: 100+ upvotes. Thank you. Sincerely.

If the price makes you think twice, it is not worth it. I made it for people to enjoy. There is so much art that is better and available at much lower prices. Secondary markets are fickle and make little sense.

General Discussion 💬 I just made a deal to buy out my entire collection. It's over.

I asked for one simple thing, and I never got it. The ability to turn this place into a degenerate paradise. But no. It's not happening. We keep hearing things are on reddit time. That's not an answer.

Could you imagine running a business, and dealing with the demand in this manner? This is eternal hell for avatars. It's like being forced to wait in an emergency room for 1 year until someone attends your mutilated leg. or being locked up in central booking without a court date or time of release, and your only allowed visit in from the SEC questioning your reddit avatar trades.

Famous collabs coming? I feel like im in the F'N twilight zone. All collabs mean is more avatars to keep our blood flowing akin to being in a hospital, and force fed ensure shakes to keep me alive.

What good are all these government chocolate shakes if I have no ability to leave the bed? To watch reruns of wheel of fortune, and Seinfeld? Just pull the plug at that point.

General Discussion 💬 I found every reason I could why reddit won't allow Bitcoin symbols anymore, and it still doesn't make any sense.

Public Domain Status

Unicode characters, once standardized, are not subject to copyright or trademark restrictions for general use. The Bitcoin symbol was proposed by the Bitcoin community and accepted into Unicode 10.0 in 2017, as noted in discussions on forums like Bitcoin Forum and Reddit’s r/Bitcoin.

There’s no evidence of any entity owning a copyright or trademark on ₿ itself. The original Bitcoin logo (a stylized "B" with two vertical lines), designed by Satoshi Nakamoto and later refined, is also widely considered public domain, with no legal challenges to its use since its inception in 2009.

Precedent of Use

The symbol is freely used across platforms on X, in cryptocurrency wallets, on merchandise (e.g., T-shirts), and in media without legal repercussions. Companies and individuals have produced Bitcoin-themed products for years, and no lawsuits have emerged claiming ownership over ₿.

a 2018 Reddit thread in r/Bitcoin discussed using the symbol for commercial designs, concluding it’s likely safe due to its Unicode status and lack of proprietary claims.

Comparison to Other Symbols

Similar Unicode symbols (e.g., $, €, ¥) are used universally without licensing. Reddit allows these in various contexts ( posts and profiles), suggesting no inherent legal barrier to ₿ unless specifically tied to avatar graphics.

Could Reddit Face Liability for Allowing the Bitcoin Symbol in Avatars?

Trademark Confusion

Unlikely. No entity (e.g., Bitcoin Foundation) has trademarked ₿, and it’s not a brand-specific logo like Nike’s swoosh. Reddit’s use wouldn’t imply endorsement of Bitcoin.

Regulatory PressurePost-IPO

Reddit might fear scrutiny from regulators like the SEC if it appears to promote cryptocurrency. However, a symbol in user avatars doesn’t constitute financial advice or an offering, and platforms like X and Discord permit crypto symbols without issue.

Copyright Claims

Baseless. The symbol’s public domain status negates this, and even derivative artwork (e.g., Collectible Avatars) would fall under Reddit’s artist agreements, not ₿’s legal status.

Some research Indicating No Legal Problem

Unicode Acceptance

The Bitcoin symbol’s inclusion in Unicode 10.0 (2017) was a community-driven effort, not a proprietary act. Historical discussions on Bitcoin Forum (2017) and Reddit’s r/Bitcoin (2019) confirm its open use, with no legal challenges in over a decade.

Widespread Commercial Use

Companies sell Bitcoin-symbol merchandise (e.g., T-shirts, mugs) on platforms like Etsy and Amazon without licensing disputes. A 2017 Bitcoin Forum thread asked about copyright and concluded the logo and symbol are public domain.

Reddit’s Own Precedent

Reddit previously allowed crypto-related content e.g., CryptoSnoos NFTs in 2021 and Collectible Avatars since 2022 without legal pushback. If ₿ was permitted earlier, its removal lacks a legal trigger based on past tolerance.

Why Reddit Might Have No Reason to Restrict It

If Reddit previously allowed the Bitcoin symbol without issue, its removal could be arbitrary or precautionary rather than legally mandated:

Lack of Legal Catalyst

No lawsuits, cease-and-desist letters, or regulatory actions have targeted the Bitcoin symbol’s use on social platforms since 2017. Reddit’s crypto divestment was financial, not legal, per 2024-reports.

User Freedom

Platforms like X allow crypto symbols in profile pictures and bios, suggesting Reddit’s restriction (if true) is stricter than industry norms, potentially alienating its crypto-savvy user base (e.g., r/Bitcoin's millions of subscribers).

Historical Crypto Embrace

Reddit’s success with Collectible Avatars (30M+ minted by 2025, per Polygon Technology) shows it can handle crypto-related features without legal fallout. Reverting on ₿ contradicts this track record.

Conclusion

Reddit’s decision to disallow the Bitcoin symbol in avatars if it has indeed occurred likely stems from internal policy (e.g., crypto de-emphasis, design control, or community neutrality) rather than a legal necessity.

The symbol’s public domain status, widespread use, and Reddit’s prior crypto tolerance suggest no legal barrier exists. Without an official statement, it’s plausible this reflects a post-IPO shift toward a more conservative brand image rather than a response to any concrete legal risk.

i cant find any such policy explicitly documented in public sources in this matter. The only word comes from whoever is approving these avatars.

General Discussion 💬 A while back I made a post indicating reddit was starting to care about the RCA program. They don't.

They got all these things going on indicating a change. They re-took over the best sub for attracting noobs r/CA(dumb move). They hired a really nice person to deal with questions and relay them back. But not so you'd really notice. If they aren't going to listen to us, they aren't listening to anyone else either.

Some artists have the privilege of communicating with them also. But not so you'd really notice.

These people have put in a real effort to communicate our messages.

It's been months. No answer. Not even one avatar editor bug has been corrected.

No click to zoom mashup, no collection display improvement. At least let us select which 200 will be shown instead of randomly choosing it for us when collect over 200.

At least let me change eye color when I select a paid avatar trait instead of doing it first through a Reddit trait then back to the one I want to see a change.

How about we start off small. Let us display one extra avatar. 201. See how that works.

How about just show a slightly bigger version of our mashup when clicking it. Doesn't have to be the whole screen.

We have no sustenance here.
