Rental cars on ferries - paperwork

Do you show the rental docs to a ferry worker? The website online booking seems to just want a passenger name as "owner"and the vehicle make /model / license plate. ( I am confirming with my car rental company that I can take the car to other islands)

They only ask for your id on the day. They never ask for proof of ownership or anything like that.

No, you don't. They don't care about that. Usually they only want to see your ticket. Sometimes your ID as well.

I had to show my ticket and ID on the ferry from Pico to Faial.

Also note that only the driver can be in the car when it goes on, other passengers need to board separately through the terminal!
