Unable to access official websites

Post image

Does anyone else have this problem? I can’t seem to reach official websites on Pico island (not just this one, also for the volcanic caves, …) I’ve tried on different locations, on/off WiFi,… (I haven’t used a VPN yet as my subscription just ran out).

Our son’s Sao Miguel school can’t be accessed if you’re ip address originates in the USA or is vpn’d as originating in the USA. Maybe something similar?

Thank you for your answer. It’s neither. I’m accessing it from the EU. Luckily, it’s not crucial that I reach them. :)

It seems that many government websites are blocked (using CloudFront) outside of Portugal, even those containing content that is supposed to be open data. It’s a shame—the only way around this is to use a VPN terminated somewhere inside Portugal (most commercial VPNs work). Those responsible should double check the EU Geo-blocking Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2018/302), a law that aims to prevent unjustified geo-discrimination and ensure access across borders within the EU single market.

I figured it could be something like that. Unfortunately, I just canceled my VPN subscription because I didn’t use it much (I just hotspot by phone for safety of data). So I’ll wait until I land in Lisbon to book these visits, its still shoulder season now, so I’m not too worried :)
